The US threatened to bomb Pakistan "back to the stone age" unless it joined the fight against al-Qaeda, President Pervez Musharraf has said.
General Musharraf said the warning was delivered by former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage to Pakistan's intelligence director.

"I think it was a very rude remark," Gen Musharraf told CBS television.

Pakistan agreed to side with the US, but Gen Musharraf said it did so based on his country's national interest.

"One has to think and take actions in the interest of the nation, and that's what I did," he said.

While I agree you cant go around the world anymore simply threatining to blow **** up. We are losing friends faster then the faiders are losing games. This kind of bully **** we are using on a daily basis is ****ing us up royal. Chavez got plenty of applause and agreement with his recent **** talking at the UN. Were running fast out of friends. This thing is gonna get ugly you watch. When the world finds out just how we are keeping "our friends" in line the backlash will be harsh.

In other news China just test fired the DF-31 missle now they can hit the western US with pinpoint accuracy. Rumors are flying that the DF-31 is not even their top of the line missle anymore. Not cool.

Anyone who thinks Chavez is full of **** better hope he and OPEC dont start using the euro as the only oil trading currency. That along with the current insane national debt would simply crush the dollar. Thats when you can expect WW3.....

Musharraf just stated at Bush's press conference he couldn't comment on that statement because of his book agreement with Simon and Schuster.

Im not sure what to think. He does have a book deal thats coming out soon but its odd he made the comment like that right before visiting the US??? My other thought is its complete BS based on him just trying to keep his own hide protected in his own country. Then again would the US give him permission to say **** like that and damage our own credibility???

President Bush on Friday said he was "taken aback" by a report that a U.S. official threatened the United States would attack Pakistan if it did not help immediately after 9/11.

Bush made the remarks at a White House news conference with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, thanking the U.S. ally for his role in the war on terror.

The Pakistan president has told CBS News that -- immediately following the September 11, 2001, attacks -- the Bush administration threatened to bomb his country "back to the Stone Age" if Pakistan did not help in the U.S. war on terrorism.

Bush said he first heard of the U.S. official's alleged comment "in the newspaper today."

"I was taken aback by the harshness of the words," he said.

"All I can tell you is that shortly after 9/11, Secretary [of State] Colin Powell came in and said President Musharraf understands the stakes, and he wants to join and help route out an enemy that has come and killed 3,000 of our citizens."

Odd his first response is to deny any knowledge.....I dont trust anyone Ha!

I think he's confused. Probably bin laden told him to give al queda refuge or they'd bomb Pak back to the stone age, which is pretty much where the fundy muslims wanna go anyway.

They're already there. In their minds, anyway.

Well given that he said it a day before meeting with Bush its a really head shaker. Whats also jumping out at me is all the world leaders who suddenly seem to have grown a set of brass balls. Look at all the leaders (mostly allies of each other) talking straight up **** right to the US and Bush. Alot of countrys are currently giving us the finger....

Compare that to our world status when Bush took office. Amazing what can happen in five, short years. BTW, Bush is now borrowing from the Chinese and Saudis to the tune of 2 billion per week to fund Iraq.

Seriously, Armitrage is pretty well known for having both a temper and speaking with no BS. Whether he said those exact words or not, who knows. But don't we all know that that is why he was sent to Pak - to deliver a no nosense message. People were worried about what would happen if Pak allied with the Taliban. We'd have to have invaded, and they REALLY do have WOMD.

Unfortunately, the admin commenced it's ongoing series of cluster ****s thereafter in failing to secure the back road from tora bora to Pak. Musharff really has little choice with al queda, as he could face a coup or islamic revolt himself.

I dont even want to consider Pakistan falling into the hands of AlQueda or any other such group. Whats sick is if that started to happen you know we would have no choice but to send in troops to prop up the current government.

The term "bomb you back into the stone age" is distinctly idiomatic American speech derived from the Vietnam War (Armitage/Powell). No way Musharraf makes that up.

yeah, but I question whether Armitrage said them directly to Musharaff. Doesn't really matter, I suppose, since that literally was what we'd have had to do. B-1's and F-117's over Pak's nuke arsenal to take out as much as we could. I mean the Taliban did come from Pak. They were educated by Pak's clerics. Musharff walks a thin line. Still, shouldn't be THAT blunt to the elected leader of any country. Even Hugo Chavez (:

Also, was it said that if they harbor terrorist willingly that we would bomb them back to the stone ages? I cant think we would make a statement like that without some reasoning like what i mentioned. I have to believe there is more to that statement.

It's good to see you making sense every now and then. ;)

Seriously, I shudder to think about how long we (and our children) will have to live with the repercussions of Bush's stupidity, arrogance, and bloodlust.

When Bushonomics finally flushes America's economy down the toilet and we end up like Argentina, we'll be able to count the number of friends we have on one hand and still have fingers left over.
