View Full Version : Week One, and the AFC West looks completely awful!

Seriously, this division looks completely winnable. The Chiefs look awful. The Raiders may be playing for the #1 pick. And the Chargers aren't going to play the Raiders every week - at some point, Phillip Rivers is going to have to win some games for them. Tonight, they didn't seem all that comfortable letting him throw - even on third and 5 or 6.
Then again, the same could be said about us, after yesterday.
Man, the Raiders just look shockingly terrible. Art Shell looks like he's in a coma.

Art Shell looks like he's in a coma.
I don't know why. The man equalled the total point output he got from his team over the past decade. That's pretty good if you're anybody but Art Shell.

Damn, it's week one. It's a little early to be calling this a weak division. Let's be honest, it's a damn fine division, if you eliminate the chefs and the faiders.

You guys lost to the freakin' Rams. We lost to a playoff team.

Nobody's a playoff team yet, Bob. Wait until the playoffs and then tell us who you lost to.

We turned the ball over five times on the road, never gave up a TD and still only lost by one score. You got obliterated at home.
If the roles were reversed, I'd be more pissed off than you could possibly imagine and be scared to death of playing you guys this week.

the Rams still Suck and that means nothing ...I say we are a great team and we lost to Miami and bounced back we should be 12-4 or 13-3 ! and I still say the Chiefs will be 8-8!!!:pimp:

Oh, what garbage. We turned the ball over several times and lost by five more measly points. We also lost our starting quarterback for over a quarter.
Right now, there's not much difference from where I'm sitting.

they are in such a bad division i could see them sneaking a win vs. Seatle and possibly winning that division.

 Ahhh Bob. I'll add this to your great list of comparisons:
Trent Green = John Elway
Losing at home = Losing on road

Love this stuff
"We were 6th against the run maaaaan"-translated-25th defense over-all
.."we only lost by five more measly points..."-translated-lost by 13 points. TWO touchdowns minus one XP.
With this kind of thinking, Germany won the war & we are speaking German...we just don't know it.

"Gut evening mein fellow Americans..."
Watching the Rams play I must say... I was probably their biggest critic over the past four or five years... notably going into this game. They looked very impressive and call it what you want but St. Louis has the ability to become a playoff team. The parts are there... they have two stud OT's... a work horse HB who the coach is committed to running, and some big play WR's, even Bruce in his old age. Even Bulger has the ability to pick up big 3rd down conversions if he can stay healthy. Frerotte will be good in the backup role if he has to come in.
I severly doubted their defense but they looked really good. I don't think they are overly talented but Haslett has hime in the right positions. He could do a job very comparable to what Williams is doing with Washington.
I like the Rams better than Washington, Tampa, and Arizona right now. Washington doesn' thave a QB... Tampa doesn't have a proven QB in my eyes and Arizona's defense just isn't that good.
As for how all the teams look... you have to go with the records.
San Diego looked the best, their defense is going to give them a chance every game.
Denver has a lot of kinks they need to work out.
KC has injury and retirement problems which I think will hinder them all year.
Oakland just stinks.

The Chiefs should have hired Haslett and fired Gunther.
Hey, at least he stopped that bootleg.

If I were in charge of the Chiefs, I'd hire YOU over Gunther...I think Paris Hilton could do a better job of running a defense.

eh, it's only the first game of the season.
No one said we were going to go undefeated so this loss looks like no big deal. The AFC West is still up for grabs, unless you're the chefs that is. Green is looking at a long vacation for now.

I thought the Chargers looked good...even though they were playing the Raiders. You have to feel good about winning a game like that on the road in the NFL.

You know, the Chargers play OAK again, KC twice, and DEN twice. The way those opening day OL played Merriman has a shot at breaking the sacks record and the Chargers could set the overall season record.
Chargers Defense was outstanding last night, Rivers looked OK, LT is a beast , and they have a third place schedule. It will be very tough to win this division and I think unless Rivers Implodes or gets injured the Chargers are going back to the playoffs in one form or another. We should know when they play an NFL caliber team though ;D
