SIMMS "WHIMPERING" ON CONTACT

A league source tells us that players on the Baltimore Ravens defense heard Tampa quarterback Chris Simms "whimpering" on contact during Sunday's 27-0 shellacking of the Bucs by the Ravens.

The source also summed up the game as follows: (1) "Steve McNair is better than Kyle Boller"; (2) "Ray Lewis is a beast"; and (3) "Chris Simms is a pussy." (We apologize to any cats who might be offended by that last statement.)

"Uh-oh . . . That's gonna leave a bruise on my vagina. . . ."

It's not a positive development for the Buccaneers, which allowed 2005 opening-day starter Brian Griese to walk away via free agency. If it turns out that Simms' performance last season after Griese went down with an injury was a fluke, the only options for replacing him are Tim Rattay and rookie Bruce Gradkowski.

Simms' performance also doesn't bode well for his long-term financial picture, given that he's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2006 season.

Simms is the son of former Giants quarterback Phil Simms. Last year, former 49ers quarterback Steve Young suggested during ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown that Simms might not have the "mental toughness" to deal with the "information overload" of the NFL after being reared in a "laissez-faire" atmosphere. Phil Simms responded in part with this quote: "You can say whatever you want about my son. The one thing that will get me mad — and I'll stand in your face about it — is about toughness."

Two weeks ago, it was revealed that Chris Simms and Bucs assistant coach Kyle Shanahan have tattooed each other's initials on their legs.

Who doesn't think that Ray Lewis didn't shout something like this at Simms on Sunday? "Hey, Chrissy -- I'm gonna tattoo my initials on your other leg. With my teeth."

Hah! This must be a tough pill for Phil to swallow. One thing you could never criticize him for was physical or mental toughness. Now the whispers his kid is a puss keep growing louder.

I watched that game yesterday and Ravens were downright scary. If we dont get our **** together they are going to embarrass us this year.

I like Simms accuracy. I watched a couple of games last year that made me think the kid has potential, making clutch throws under pressure while standing in the pocket to take a hit.

This definitely doesn't sound good, but then again, it's PFT, the site that said we were going to fire the best defensive coordinator we've had since Wade Phillips after week one of last year. It could be true, or it could be completely made up.

I remember Phil Simms walking off the field with a concussion while the Meadowland "faithful" called him every name in the book. In the early 80s this happened two or three times a year.

I'll reserve judgement about Chris until I hear someone besides Baltimore give an opinion. The Ravens defense is notorious for talking down opponents after they beat them.

Ray Lewis is a beast

Ray Lewis is easily one of the most overrated linebackers in the league. He gets around based on name and what he did 3 and 4 years ago. He is the Warren Sapp of linebackers. He was truly dominant and one of the best about 4 years ago.

And remember folks, ol' Taco John would rather have "whimpering" Chris Simms over Jake Plummer. Just an FYI.

I didn't write the article. Like him or not he's got his rings and he's done well.

I am not looking forward to Week 5 right now. Baltimore looks like they could be a beast. It will ulimately depend on the health of the lewis's and McNair.

The AFC North is shaping up to be a monster division. Watching Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cincy club each other to death is going to be brutal. Easily probably the three most physical units in the league right now.

I'm more than worried about the Ravens... its the one team that just has the Broncos number year in and year out.

They have had our number and now they actually have some offensive weapons. The defense has the best front four its had since 2000. I cringed when the Ravens got Ngata. Pryce is still more than effective enough to help that defense while I still think denver made the right decision with him.

All I know is that we will be in for a war in Week 5 and if we play like we did this weekend then... we will definitely not be going undefeated at home and we will lose by 40 points.
