I started watching his shows along time ago, like when they would just pop up on discovery. I thought he was insane at the time but as the years past and I kept watching him it become obvious that he was a top professional at his field. I doubt anyone knows more about some of these creatures then he did. It is a sad loss for his family he looked like a good dad (somepeople may not think as much since he took his son in to the croc pen but I know he would have never put his son in harms way). It was pretty stunning the way he went out, you have a better shot at hitting powerball then getting hit in the heart by a stingray.

People may get on him because of how he talked, but that's just the way Aussies talk. I remember going to Australia and going to his zoo. Wasn't able to meet him but saw some of the good stuff he did, and his love for nature and children. First class guy IMO.

1 metre Ray? Wow! That isn't very big at all. A bud of mine was explaining some of his dives in Australia. I have a very healthy respect for Australian wildlife. Some of it is like Iraq. Everything stings, bites or chews on you in your sleep. There are sharks all over those waters and he gets popped by a Ray?

There is a place called Stingray city where diver from all over the world come with literally a swarm of rays. I've met people who have dove with killer whales, sharks, and the scariest stories always involve barracudas and Eels.

Stingray story. I got stung. It hurt really bad. The end.

The one thing that amazes me is the truth is always much stranger than fiction.

I'd say it's wrong to say that he got what he deserved. From everything I've seen he was a great guy, and he followed his passions. But it's not unfair to say that this was bound to happen. I have a lot of repect for the guy. Not many of us can make a lot of money doing what we enjoy doing. And from what I've seen he was caring towards the animals. But when I first heard the news, I wasn't shocked. Kind of like that guy who loved the bears (not the football team), and then got eaten by one.

I posted it on the main board so it would be seen. Any mod can move it at any time. It probably is time to move it or let it drop onto the second page. Makes no difference to me. I thought it was an interesting if sad story. The most ironic thing is how he lived fearlessly yet was taken out by an animal he no doubt didn't even see. They hide in the sand. He just had the horrible luck to have the barb pierce his heart with poison. I always thought he was crazy, but found it amusing because that's what he chose to do. The odds of being struck in the heart are astronomically small. Usually they will just hit your leg or buttocks and while very painfull, isn't life threatening. That ray just had his number.

I think it shows a tremendous amount of respect to dedicate your life (literally in this case) to teaching people about the creatures he was so passionate about. You may never have pried an animal from it's habitat, but I've doubt you've taught anyone about those same animals either, or inspired passion in people to protect those habitats from development or many other things that are much more detrimental than a guy with a camera.

Its one of the most painful things going if it just hits your ankle ... you can just imagine the jolt right through the rib cage into the heart!

I'm sure pulling it out was a spilt second instinctive reaction and he lost consciousness in the same moment as his blood pressure crashed.

With the toxin directly in the heart as well as the large barb that pierced it, he was done for the moment he got in the water Monday! What are the odds of that? 10 billion to one that a Sting ray would get him, and furthermore, with a direct hit to the heart when he wasnt even mucking with it!

It was simply his time. The guy was so full of life, and with a larger than life persona it seems that his candle wasn't mean't to burn long. But you can tell what a great guy he was and how genuine on and off the camera by the sincere and heartfelt outpouring of love and affection he is recieving from all those he touched and who knew him best.

They had a moving tribute to him on Larry King Live yesterday that is really worth seeing if and when they replay it.

The first thing I thought of as well but on the other hand to make police matters short I am pretty sure they wanted to watch the tape that way there isnt any guess on what happened.
