I am posting for the first time, hopefully I follow all the rules.
I found out some info on another board yesterday that I had to pass on to my fellow Broncos fans.
If you have NFL Sunday Ticket, but haven't pulled the trigger on paying up for the Superfan, you can try calling them and asking for it. Call their Customer Retention department at 1-800-824-9081. Tell them you heard about this special offer before, but didn't know if you had taken advantage of it.
I called it yesterday, and they gave it to me for free!
I heard this only works in certain markets, but it is worth a try.
See you Sept. 17th, when the Bronx roll the Chiefs!

Now, that is a very helpful first post. If we can just clone you and get rid of all the other newbie narcissistics ;D
Thank You and welcome to the board cmhargrove. It's people like you that keeps the 100 post rule from ever being implemented. That and TJ that is.

Customer retention is the best feature of DirecTv!!! They work with you on just about anything including free HD DVRs (check out this thread (http://tinyurl.com/pu6qk))
I just called the retension center and got mine. I told them I was not interested in dropping ST and that I was wondering if I could get the hd tivo. She told me it was for people that wanted to drop ST only. I told her I had ST for 5 or 6 years. She infomed me that I have had it for 8. She said "Lets try this again and she went Ring Ring"(with her voice) I said I want to drop ST. Well she just fell out laughing. She put me on hold and went and talked to her supervisor about it. A minute later she came back and said it was okayed. It was just the best experience I have ever had with D*.
If all their Reps were like this one that I had they would double the buisness that they have now.
Just got the HD10-250 and the Superfan for free. Called and said I was gonna cancel the ST. Thanks for the info everyone.

I just moved to a new house, and called to cancel my longstanding subscription. The plan was to open a new account in my wife's name to get a free hd reciever. I explained this to the customer service guy. His counter offer was 2 free HD recievers, a free standard DVR for my spare bedroom, a new 5-LNB dish, and an off-air antenna... installed... all for free!

I grew up with one channel. My cable and broadband are just fine thank you. I'm pissed the Hornehads are on tonight tho. I will start getting games when the reg season starts. I usually get about 12 of 16 games.
The game against KC on Turkey day prime time is infuriating me tho. How in the hell is the NFL allowed to run their own network and it's not even available on my cable? What happened to their credo that nationally telivised games would be on the open air? Now monday night football in on cable. Now games are on the NFL Network, an absurd antitrust move that I find hard to believe.

So... the problem with this HD DVR is it is the old one that does not work w/ MPEG4. So if you get the 5LNB dish w/ HD Local Channels you can't use it anymore (at least for any of the local channels).
To get local HD via DirecTv you'll need the new HR20-700 which won't be out for a month (or so). I'm definitely expecting a deal from them when it does as I paid out my a$$ for the HD Tivo unit that I have no and that they are dumping for free right now.

Call them up. Tell them that you have been a good customer, don't call them constantly asking for special deals, but when you read about how people get for free, what you paid $100 for, you get very frustrated, or something like that.
You will likely be given a credit in a lump sum, or $20 off your bill for six months or so, you might even get an HDTV DVR for free. Last month they were giving people that had NFL Network last year, free HDTV DVR's and free SF.

What do you mean "switching to the Dish"? Didn't you already have DTV? Also, is the DVR an "HD" DVR ? Other things I've read say the offer is for a STANDARD DVR......

"switching to the Dish" - I meant switching to The Dish Network. I didn't get the "HD" DVR because I don't have an HDTV. Standard DVR is what I'm getting!

So - I think they are giving away the obsolete (or soon to be) HD Tivo DVR (maybe is DirecTv branded). I have this already and it's no good once you get the new 5LNB dish and local HD channels. (it will still work on the other HD channels). Not only will it not record them it has no idea how to decode the MPEG4 signal.
They are close to releasing a new HD DVR that will support MPEG4. I think I read they are test marketing it in LA already.

Well I had my wife call DTV yesterday while I was at work. Told her to act like she didn't know about the superfan. She said the lady didn't know about it either. Anyway, long story short, she said that she would just cancel the sunday ticket next year so we got the superfan for free this year. I love it.
