Every time Javon caught the ball and took a hit, I cringed. Anybody else? I have a feeling I'm going to be cringing all year, but I have faith he's going to be fine.
I can only imagine what the folks in Cincy are going through with that.
But while we're on Javon, it was real cool to see him jump up and smile after that first catch the other night.

I stopped cringing after I watched him drag that cornerback across the first down line.

I cringed everytime time Jake threw him a pass...but for different reasons.

True enough. That was quite the move that put all the stress on the legs and knees. If he could do that, I suppose he is 100%.

Something about a knee injury that just doesn't make you feel like he is that same guy that dominated the league in 2004. I mean, he put up Chad Johnson numbers that year. He is suppose to be one of the best receivers in the league. In the league!
Man, if he goes back to his 2004 form, whheeeewwww, we are going to be legit.

I think it's natural. It's called hypersensitivity. It's the same reason why it's a biggert deal if Watts drops a pass than if Rod does. It will go on for a good part of the season, every time Javon gets up a little slow you'll wonder if it's the knee. All you can do is hope, but at this point in the rehab process it would take as much to reinjure it as it did for the original injury to occur.

I totally did. He kinda got up slow after his first catch and I was freakin' out for a few seconds...
A few big plays will probably increase my comfort level.

Ashley was drafted, not traded for.
Though, he did trade for Leon Lett IIRC. I may have spoken too soon.
Regardless, Javon's knee has not even entered my mind.

I was curious if he'd be able to get open or get good speed but he's right at a full year since the injury so I wasn't worried about him suffering a setback. As it was already said, once he carried the defender on his back I knew things were fine and that Crazywhore was peeing his pants somewhere.

In truth I never did. I figured with all he had been through in TC and practice let him play. I was yelling when the first one was thrown (excitment not worry). No i didnt have ful trust but it was a gable I was on and it turned out right. Give this guy a few more weeks and we will have the full package GB missed last year.

Shanahan wouldn't have put him on the field if there were doubts about his health. I wasn't worried.

I've had knee surgeries in every decade since the 70's & I can tell you the science has made remarkable strides...and I do mean almost miraculous.
Up until my two surgeries in 2004 & 5, all procedures had been maintenance of the original injury...drainings, cartilage repair & removal, various physical therapies.
Now, the knee is as strong as it was back in my marathon skiing days...it almost seems like a miracle.
Point is, sports medicine has taken quantum steps in just the last ten-15 years, so a first time ligament injury..even a serious tear...just isn't that serious any longer if there aren't 'other' complications...especially so in the re-hab environment of a professional athlete.
Walker is smiling because he probably feels the damned thing is stronger than he remembers...and he's probably right.

I never think about the trolls.
There was a three page thread he started asserting that he would suck and so would Rod Smith. Something like that. I like when trolls are wrong, even if I can't read what they write. Ha!

I didn't cringe with Javon, but the question about whether Javon will ever be the same 100% he could have been reminds me of Leroy Kelly before and after serious injury.
He was still a great back, but he was never as great as he had been. He had been fearless before the injury. After, it just seemed like he was afraid to go for the extra yards after that first hit. He tended to fold up to protect himself.
Of course players these days have benefitted from the invention of anaesthesia and stuff since the days I was watching Jim and Leroy romp.
You can judge for yourself.
Leroy before surgery:

Leroy after surgery:

I mean, he could still run, but he was never quite the same.

He'll have a full year of recovery under his belt and will be 95%. The last 5% is 100% mental.

I had knee surgery a decade ago now. You are absolutely right. The tech has changed a ton in that time. I remember that athletes 10 years ago basically had to bag the first year back - there knee just wasnt there. However, I have seen Javon and Carson Palmer, and both look NONE the worse for the wear. Its amazing.
