That other things were mentioned in Shanahan's Friday press conference.

I still think he'll get some snaps as the third and fourth receiver this year despite missing a couple of weeks. He's been the talk of the players all during OTA's and was one of the most consistant play makers during the camps. I read somewhere that he was running and cutting again, so that's good news. Apparently PCL's have quite a bit more bloodflow to them than other ligaments so they heal faster.

anthonypacino won an OM award for pimping Marshall so mightily BEFORE the draft (he even started a Marshall thread!)... I think we should give him a medal, too ... :pimp:

That hype had me laughing from the minute he caught that touchdown. I remember saying out loud: "Uh oh... The hype train just left the station."

Marshall....6'4" - 225 lbs runs a 4.4 40.
Hands like glue, runs good routes. If you have ever seen him in person ( training camp ) then you would know why there is so much hype around this kid not too mention words of wisdom from CHamp when covering him.

Yeah? Well call me a conservative until I see him actually PLAY.

Good news, thanks Khan.
Marshall is a beast. When he is ready to go, he will snatch that No. 3 job away from the others. Khan is correct. He was just as impressive if not more so than Cutler and Scheffler in camp.

This board has seen training camp hype come and go... The last WR getting the kind of hype that Marshall is now enjoying was Darrius Watts two years ago. I like the kid's measurables, and love what I've read about him, but until they translate into yards and points, it's just hype.

Same could be said about all the Rookies this year on all the teams. Its just something that happens with players that "look" like they have potential. He is a 4th rounder also, so that must mean he is a lock to succeed since the Broncos are head and shoulders better in the later rounds then the early rounds.
Hype is just something to go off of and hopefully build off of.

Try 4.6. Doesn't matter...Rice and T.O. were/are not burners either. OK, give him 4.58. Whoever sold that Marshall is a 4.4 reciever is selling Ms. Lilly. He dropped in the draft because of his slow times. I'm not sure what 1 tenth of a second makes with a beast to fight for the ball, but that's why he fell. This isn't a skinny speedster. Want to guess what Rod Smith runs in the 40 now? I bet it's close to 4.8 or more.

Try 4.6.
So he has that Jerry Rice speed going for him.

I'm looking forward to watching this kid.
If he really does possess only modest speed as Mock infers, I assume he'll become the 'McCaffrey' options (Folks don't generally know that prior to the 2001 Training Camp...in timing drills...McCaffrey ran a sizzling 5.1 40 in his first run.)
I'm not certain of this, but I believe that ol' easy Ed was never more than a 4.6-7 guy in his prime.
I do hope this Marshall kid can be...even...half the player McCaffrey became for Denver.
If he can, there are good times ahead.

He's on schedule to play against Arizona next week. He's definitely out this week, but he's running and cutting.

Yeah... but, 4 Days! Can you believe that? God wasted 6 days and all he did was supposedly create Earth. Can you imagine what the Mastermind could have done with 6 days of drafting, wheeling, and dealing?

He really knows his stuff and presents it in a matter-of-fact way that I enjoy.
As for Marshall just being traning camp hype, it's very possible. He locked up the number three spot since OTA's and didn't let go until he was injured. He's big, phyiscal and drew praises from his defense teammates which is something Watts didn't do. He also has great hands and is physically developed which is something Adian Madise and Watts both have lacked. Obviously he might suck once the real guns go off, but to this point he's looked great.

If you add up the number of potential WRs and TEs and RBs in the game who can catch the ball, I doubt that the 4th WR or perhaps even the third WR will get many balls thrown to him. How many passes are thrown on average in a Bronco game? Give maybe 30% to Smith, 30% to Walker (or more) and 25% to Sheff/TE, and there are actually few balls to go to the 3rd guy. So Marshall, unless he can break out to the third and possibly the Red Zone WR, is not likely to show up big time this year - barring injury.
I am as excited as anyone that the Broncos seem to have a great stable of young WRs, but you can only ride so many horses at a time in that position, IMO.

Another thanks to Anthony Pacino for the early info on Marshall. After viewing all the UCF video, I became a fan and was pleased to see him land in Denver. I view his potential as sky high. The future is bright.

Marshall:
From Pro Football Weekly 2006 Draft Preview:
"6-4 and 1/2, 229, 4.53 and 4.52, 37 inch vertical" (combine data)/(4.45 and 4.49 at his Pro Day). "...scared scouts away by clocking 40-times in the mid 4.7s in the spring of 2005" "... strong downfield blocker." "Looked like a man among boys at the Hula Bowl and really separated himself from the rest of the competition. Ideal West Coast receiver with striking similarities to 49ers 1996 3rd rounder Terrell Owens..."
MVP of Hula Bowl with 11 receptions, 223 yds, 3 TDs.
Marshall has a lot of talent, but he'll need time to develop it. How about we don't get too hyped up until he's actually starting on Sundays.
In talking about other WR's that have been hyped in the past here: dont forget about Keven Kasper --talk about living up to your name sake.

I'm pretty happy, seems his speed varies. I think he might be one of those guys who has "game speed". Bailey says he's a beast which is good enough for me. What do you think Rod Smith runs now? What do you think Sharpe ran his last year? Floppy Ed? Mark Jackson? John Lynch?
Good to hear he hasn't had any setbacks and is doing straight line conditioning. Let him heal another week. It's practice man...practice. The Scheff can carry the big man reciever role early.
Anyone notice that not only are Rocket Man and Scheff room mates, they both have boyish haircuts with bangs!

I love Marshall's potential, but I think Kircus will be the guy who makes more plays for us this year. More than Watts, too.

08-27-2006, 04:16 AM
People need to stop with the McCaffrey comparisons when it comes to Kircus, though. He's far too short to be an Eddie Mac.
I do like the Ricky Proehl comparison though. If he can be anything like Proehl, he's gonna be a hell of a contributor to this offense.
Marshall's greatest contributions this season will be in the red zone. His size and blocking are going to be huge. I just hope his route running and hands are up to snuff.

Ricky Proehl is the NFL's answer to Robert Horry. He's caught some huge touchdowns late in Conference Championships and Super Bowls.

I like the idea that he's one of those guys who isn't necessarily gonna put up big numbers, but he's one of those guys who'll get you 8 yards on 3rd & 7 or 11 yards on 3rd & 10. Outside of Rod Smith, the Broncos have been sorely lacking players who can fill that role.

All I know is I hope to be arguing with my Kids/Grandkids about who the better trio Elway/Smith/Davis .....or .....Cutler/Marshall/Bell/
when its all said and done.
EDIT: I guess I shouldve said Quadruple(sp) and Added Scheff and Sharpe

Until I see evidence that Marshall can be the #3 receiver, I'll continue to maintain that Kircus will be our #3.

Marshall's best 40 time was actually 4.45 at his Pro Day at UCF. Which is very good considering he's almost 6'5 and 230 pounds. I think Marshall will have a year similar to Watts' rookie season, but I think the kid will have 4-5 touchdowns because he's such a huge target in the red zone.
Not buying the David Kircus hype, he'll be our #5 receiver this year. Marshall has size and speed, and I think he'll have some sort of an impact this season.
25-35 catches. . . 4-5 touchdowns, yardage wise, who knows. I look forward to him being a great receiver for us in the future.

Actually Scheffler will be our real number 3 receiver (in terms of production), so this Marshall Vs. Kircus talk is really who will be fourth in fifth. That said, I do like the way those two compliment each other. Marshall is big and physical and Kircus is small and quick. It really rounds out the receiving corps.

SUPER KUPER REVIEW
Breaking down the Titans game for my boy Kuper. I'll give his hilights here.
Gets beat by a swim move early in his first drive in the second quarter on the play where Cutler tried to hit Scheffler as he ran out of bounds. He tries to shove Randy Starks past Cutler unsucessfuly. Cutler throws it before he's sacked.
Really does a good job on the screen dropped by Scheffler of pushing his guy out and away from the QB, even though he is letting guys by. It gives the QB enough time to make the throw.
On the next play the titans blitz three and Kuper and Eslinger are the only guys that pick any bit of it up. Pretty impressive. They bury the first guy and keep the other two in front of them.
The next play, when Alexander is held and Thornton is called for PI, Kuper in one on one and totally pancakes his guy! It was awesome!
The next play is a run play and Kuper pushes past the D-line and locks out Robert Reynolds springing Tatum for a big gain. You will notice that all our great runs were up the right side. !Booya!
On the next play a pitch to Tatum, Kuper locks up Randy Starks and Starks doesn't move an inch.
They score the next play. Nothing impressive there, but nothing bad.
On the next drive, Kuper gets beat by Haynesworth but peels back and then burries him allowing for a decent gain.
The next play is a strike to Tony Scheffler and the entire interior line plays solid creating a wide pocket and time for Cutler ho hit Scheffler down field.
Next play h efaces the same swim move but is able to push the defender back and reset preventing any penetration. He appears to at least be able to learn how to adjust to the rush and does a good job of keeping proper blocking posture.
In the second half he beats or at least neutralizes his guy on every play. The most impressive play is the deep pass to Scheffler down field in what looks like the last pass by Cutler. Against a blitz, Kuper shoves off the defender into the center, Eslinger. He then picks up the blitz and just shoves him backward a few feet and then returns to help Eslinger to finish his block on the Defensive tackle.
I gotta say I'm very impressed with Chris Kuper and look forward to seeing him play again this Sunday. We got a future starter here, folks. :)
