Ted Sunquist was on sirius NFL radio today and was interviewed by Adam Schien. Sunquist gave an breakdown to the Lelie deal. I'm not sure if this has been addressed yet or not (I'm sure it has) but, The Broncos will likely get MORE then just a 2007 3rd round pick from the Skins. Here is how Ted explained it.....
The Broncos wanted a high 3rd round pick for Lelie. Ted said they wanted the equivilant to the #68 overall pick which if the 4th or 5th pick in the 3rd round. They (the Broncos) felt that Washington is a good team and will probably make the playoffs. If the Skins make the playoffs the draft pick would be a low third round pick. So, the Broncos and Skins figured out that using the "draft pick trade chart" that if the Skins made the playoffs they would need to come up with 250 points on the draft chart. What does that mean you might ask. Well, there are 2 solutions:
1) If the Skins make the playoffs and end up drafting ahead of the Broncos in the first round, the Broncos and Skins would flip flop picks in the first round. However, there is a stipulation that they can't be more then 4 spots ahead of the Broncos. For example, if the Skins end up with the 12th pick overall and the Broncos are at 28, this flip flop picks wont take place. It has to be reasonable.
2) If the Skins are more then 4 picks ahead of the Broncos in the first round, the Broncos and Skins will NOT make the flip flop pick. What would happen is the Broncos would get Washingtons 2008 4th round pick. The Skins do not have a 2nd or 4th round pick in the 2007 draft (actually with the Lelie deal they don't have a 3rd either).
What an absolute sweet deal for the Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some more quick nuggets from Ted during the interview. Schien asked Ted about the Broncos running backs and how many RB's the Broncos would keep. Schien specifically named Mike Bell, Tatum, Cobbs, and Dayne. He forgot to mention Nash and Sunquist never mentioned Nash's name so that might not be good for Nash. Ted answered that the Broncos normally keep 3 RB's and 2 FB's. Ted then went on to say that he thought that the Broncos had a ton of depth at TE (blocking) and they were adding wrinkles to the game plan that lined a TE at the FB position. Sunquist said that we would probably see a TE lined up in the backfield for the 3rd or 4th preseason game (keep an eye on that Bronco fans). Ted raved about both Bell's and Cobbs. He didnt say anything at all about Dayne. Makes you wonder if Dayne is gone.
