If there was a mythical QB draft for your starting QB(not for Fantasy Football) for the 2006 and 2006 season only, Jake Plummer would go top seven (possibly as high as five but no later that seven). We are not drafting on potential, just for the 2006 season. We are basing this draft of last year's production, injuries, and age.
Top seven QBs for the 2006 season would be:
* Obviously, Peyton Manning
* Obviously, Tom Brady
* Donovan McNabb
* Matt Haselback
* Jake Delhomme
* Ben Rothliesberger
* Jake Plummer --- Jake Plummer 7th best QB in the league for the 2006 season? How can you say that? Well, let us go down the list of why the following players would not be selected before Plummer:
*Eli Manning -- All potential at this point. Had the worst completion precentage of all starting QB's last year. Until he puts it together, Plummer is above him.
*Michael Vick -- All potential at this point. Negatives: gets injured a lot, not that great of passer. For the 2006 season, you got to go with Plummer until Vick establishes himself as a legit QB.
* Trent Green -- He is a hell of a lot older, not as mobile and has benefited from playing behind a hall of fame line. He is due for a drop off.
* Carson Palmer -- He is coming back from a torn knee. You would want Palmer for the future, but if you were just playing for the 2006 season, you would have to take Plummer because he is healthy and Palmer is not.
*. Daunte Culpepper-- See above.
*. Chad Pennington -- See above, above.
*. Byron Leftwhich-- No one in their right mind thinks Leftwhich is a better QB than Plummer at this point. Has a troubling history of injuries. Stats aren't that good either.
*. Mark Brunell --- He's too old, not as mobile.
*. Steve McNair -- Has a bad history with injuries and he is getting older. Not a good combination.
*. Drew Bledsoe -- Much older, less mobile, and Plummer had better stats than him last year. I would pick Plummer over Bledsoe. I'm sure a lot of people would too.
*. Drew Brees -- Coming off a baaaaaaaad shoulder injury.
And the rest of the QB's are not even worth mentioning(Brooks, Warner, Griese etc) because Plummer is a much better QB.
Who would have thunk it? Jake Plummer is one of the best QBs in the entire league. WOW. :notworthy :strong: Soopa Bowl here we come, baby!

Shhh... keep that Plummer stuff quiet.... No one wants to hear about him right now, with the annointed one waiting in the wings and all... Jake's just one INT from the bench, u just wait and see.

Plummer is great. I think this year is going to be his best year. He's got two pro bowl wr's, Rod won't get doubled teamed as much, and sheff is going to be better than putz this year, plus our running game. Jake is surrounded by great coahces and playmakers. There is no way he can fail, and it's going to be fun watchin him and this offense. and you're right. Super Bowl here we come!

Obviously, you boys didn't read the WHY Plummer would go over Carson Palmer. Palmer is coming off a devastating knee injury and might not even start the season for the Bengals. His knee is that torn up. Even if he does play, you don't know how good he is going to be because essentially he is playing on one leg. Like I said earlier, for the FUTURE, you would, without a doubt, select Palmer, but FOR THE 2006 SEASON, Plummer is your man.
Palmer can't be better than Plummer if ain't playing.
Plummer two knees better than Palmer one knee.

Palmer is going to best QB this year? You are out on an island on that one. The guy tore every ligament in his knee and you think he is going to play the full 16 game schedule at a level higher than anyone in the league? Whooooooo. Good luck with that one.

well sure, if the FUTURE was what you were thinking of.
the point was for THIS SEASON ONLY, and considering this season and ONLY this season is what matters, you'd be pretty crazy to want palmer over plummer, even moreso considering our offense.
also, i'd take plummer over delhomme, hasselback, and roethlisburger.
the steelers have largely won DESPITE roethlisburger and not because of him.
even in his "masterful" afc championship performance, he threw FOUR interceptions.
we just didnt catch any of them.
plummer is one of the best qb's in the league right now, though there are many out there who will surpass him in the next couple/three years.

Because Palmer outperformed every quarterback in the league last year, regardless of his injury, and by all accounts, he'll be starting in week one.
And also, the fact that you're not factoring potential kind of defeats the purpose of what a draft is about in the first place.

If you're going to use the injury excuse for Carson Palmer, you shouldn't but Ben Roethlisberger in front of Plummer, considering that Ben is coming off a motorcycle accident and now an injured throwing hand.

Because Palmer outperformed every quarterback in the league last year, regardless of his injury, and by all accounts, he'll be starting in week one.
Yea, but Palmer had both knees last season. So what you are essentially trying to say is that you would take a guy, who just seven months ago, ripped every single ligament in his knee to be your starting QB over a healthy 18 td 7int Jake Plummer. Your hate runs deep, my man.
And also, the fact that you're not factoring potential kind of defeats the purpose of what a draft is about in the first place.
You can call whatever you like then. Call it "taking everything into consideration and I had to play a game on Sept 7th, which QBs would I want." How about that? Does that make you happy?

If Shanahan is coaching, and I can start Carson Palmer, you bet your ass. Carson Palmer's arm and his head are a mismatch for every defense in our division, and just about the entire league.

But he's playing on a knee that just got ripped up seven months ago. Tearing up your knee HAS to have some kind of consequences as far as your ability to play is concerned. Unless Palmer is going to throw 500 passes from within the pocket, I would say that he will not be able to make the same throws he made last year. Plus, you have to factor in the psychological effect of ripping your knee up. He might be hesitant to take a hit, or scramble, or move out of the pocket to make a pass.
Its like choosing between a world renowned scientist/college professor who just had a stroke and half his brain is not functioning VS your high school science teacher to give a report on Global Warming on CSPAN. 99.9% of time you would choose the world renowned scientist but since he had a debilitating injury that will effect his ability to think, you go to go with Mr. Stanley from Seasaw High to pull you through.

Ben averages 15 pass attempts a game in the lst half with almost 200 yards passing. People who never watch the Steelers play think we just run the ball all game long. The Steelers run the ball consecutively when they have a lead. They do not give the opposing team opportunities to get back into the game. The second half is always based on ball control and pinning the other team deep.

the steelers have largely won DESPITE roethlisburger and not because of him.
Hilarious!
Please get off Plummer's knob, you're embarrassing yourself.

Here's what's really embarrassing: thinking a guy who posted like a 22 qb rating in the super bowl had any say in his team's victory.
o4L is right in this regard.

o4L is right in this regard. Right about what? You're not comparing Plummer in the playoffs to Rothlisberger are you? Hilarious!

in the way that he clearly stated when you quoted him. It'd be dumb to say the steelers didn't overcome ben's awful performance. There was no worse qb performance in the playoffs in the past 3 years.

everyone knows how critical ive been of BVP, and i still dont think he can hit water if he fell out of a boat, but that said, i would still like to see him on the team.
realistically, if plummer goes down for any extended time our season is done, and with that in mind i would rather see vanpelt than cutler.
i know cutler is #2, but i dont like it.
why risk messing with the kids head?
he's not ready, and i just dont see any reason to rush him in too soon.
at leasy with vanpelt, he can possibly be a bandaid with his running ability, and you dont CARE if it messes with his confidence since you know he has no future as out starter.
I agree the season is most probably done if plummer goes down for sure if BVP sets in, who knows with Cutler. I have a feeling if Plummer goes down he will never be starter in Denver again and I think you feel the same way. You don't take a QB high to be a #3 and you want to work him in slowly if you can but he is light years better than BVP and has a way to go to Plummer. 8')

The "in what way" was addressing another topic.

I hate the quoting feature's many failings.
