Hey, i didn't see this thread anywhere else, if it was made and i missed it, please merge it.

I was wondering, what other fans opinions were about Mike Bell doiung the Mile High Salute. I mean, i know he idolized TD and has been a Broncos fan his whole life. Do you think he is doing that out of respect for TD or because he thinks it is a cool thing to do when he scores a TD?

he is doing that out of respect for TD

.........

He's doing what any of us fans here would do if we scored.
Remember, he's a fan too.

I loved it. I was yelling "He just gave the Mile High salute". I thought it was great. I hope I get to see about 20+ of those salutes (hopefuly a little slower and more drawn out ) this season.

I play in a flag football league on Sundays. I scored threre times yesterday and gave the ole' Mile High Slaute each time. I never get tired of seeing that. I equate it to Denver like the Green Bay fans and the Lambeau Leap.

I thought the same thing at the time then I figured hes prolly been waiting for this moment since signing on the line with Denver. I'll give him a pass on this one.

I just hope he does it over and over and over and over and over and over well you get the idea.

I'll have to search for the thread, but it was reported that he was offered #30, but Bell declined because he wasn't worthy of the number. Yes, it's completely out of respect, IMO.

I dont know about that. Check out a post a few back and you tell me who is cooler than fonzie, elway and Will Ferrell combined. DBfan21 of course. He soon will be trying out for the Broncos as a walk on with no college experience and make the team. He will wave to his family in Mile High Stadium where he has sat his whole life as a fan. It will then become a movie.

Robot dance/ Let's not belittle the obvious reference to a sacred and hallowed past. If the youngster can get iot going again, I would love to see it. that salute just aggravated the h3ll out of the other team, just like IN COM PLETE rattles the opposing QBs. There are some traditions best kept traditional, and I am among the traditionalists who's love to see that tradition revived. Really.

Can someone send an e-mail to him and tell him to stand up tall - well, as tall as he can - and salute proudly and with snappy attentioon to the tradition he mirrors?

(Maybe we can do the "Gray October Skies" bit, also. Wait. Wrong team.)

He needs to work on his form a bit, but I like the salute. I wish all of the Broncos would do it when they score. It is so much better than the assinine antics that many players perform.

It's the classiest TD celebration ever. He was TD fan, so let him do it. Who else do you want doing it? Rod?

Mike Anderson did the salute as well although it seems that people related that to him being a marine but it is actually a standard that was started by TD in 96 when he called the Denver RB squad the No-limit Soldiers and all Denver RBs gave the Mile High salute.

Absolutely. I was just thinking about this too. I don't recall Rod ever Saluting, except for one time, and it wasn't even a TD celebration. Anyone remember?

personally, i thought it was FANTASTIC, and it makes me a full fledged "homer" for the kid.
he obviously knows his bronco history, and he knows how much that salute means to the fans of denver.
when mike left (who played with TD), i feared that the mile high salute left with him.
it was great to see it back, and i hope his fellow backs and/or receivers take note and do it themselves.

well done mike bell.

Nothing wrong with the shimmy as long as it used in the correct situations. I thought it was fun to watch.

by the end of the '97 season, EVERYONE that scored did a salute, and they would salute eachother all the way off the sideline.

rod saluted every time he scored too.

it started with just the backs (no limit soldiers), and it spread to everyone else.
rod is a team guy, and therefore he did it along with everyone else.

I'm not a fan of the shimmy. Looks like he's trying to shake the boobie tassles for an extra 20 on dollar night. That said, if he runs for 1500 he can shake whatever he wants. Now, back to the task at hand, the salute was great. i was wondering if he'd bring it out eventually being a TD fan.

How long has that been around? Next he could do the Merton Hanks.

Well said. I've always thought of the salute as a Broncos thing, it just so happened that TD did it more than anyone else!

I know the history of the salute, I just could not remember Rod doing it after he scored. I have not watched any regular season games from the 97 season in, well, 9 years. I am sure Rod saluted after he scored. I do remember him Saluting as he was introduced in Super Bowl XXXII.

Anyway, I am glad to see it continue, especially with someone who knows they history of it and idolized the creator of it.

As much as the Salute looks at the fans, Chad's me loves me routine is so Rodmanesque and imitation T.O. it's pathetic. I hope he gets near the goal line and Abdulla gives him the VY treatment.

Eff Ewe, broncocalijohn. I guess you take any pick-up game of football so seriuously that you can't have fun with it. It would make sense considering you probably never played a down of actual football in your life. You just make comments from your cozy little chair without having any first-hand knowledge of the subject...kind of like Tony Kornheiser. Good job, pal.

Wouldn't it be great to see someone hand the ball to the official and run back to the sidelines without mugging for the camera . . . oh yeah, wrong era.

ignitionnight
08-22-2006, 01:33 PM
They aren't mugging for the camera, especially this celebration. The Mile High Salute, and the Lambeau Leap are honest celebratory acts and probably have 0 to do with cameras.

I think ALL Bronco players should give the Mile High Salute. It was introduced as a symbol of respect to all Bronco fans and its nice to see it whenever a TD is scored. I realize requiring the Broncos to give the salute defeats the meaning of the salute, but I would like to see them all give it.
