No one is mentioning him, but didn't he look good? We didn't punt that much but when he did it looked great and his kick-offs were consistantly five yards deep into the endzone. I think he should fill in nicely while Sauerbrun sits and maybe even stays to kick off when Todd gets back. :)

Maybe we should keep him around to kick off and also as insurance for Sauerbrun's next **** up.

The kid was booming them yesterday, 5 or 6 yards into the endzone. That is going to be a powerful weapon especially when Hall is in our division. Sauerbrun really needs to be nervous because if he starts punting as consistantly as he was kicking last night, Todd might be on the way out with his big contract.

One or two more games like that and Todd will be the one gone. He boomed a 51 yard punt and his kick offs were outstanding all night.

We could save a pretty penny by getting rid of Sauerbrun and Dayne. I imagine it would be at least around 1.5-2 mill. That could buy us a good 4th DT in the free agent market... Grady Jackson?

I think that has to be the plan. Last year, we would have kept him if he hadn't looked so inept in the Miami game (and then got hurt), so I don't think Shanahan is opposed to the idea of keeping three kickers. And you have to think there is less than full confidence in Sauerbrun at this point.

So Ernster kicks off, Sauerbrun punts, and Elam kicks field goals. If everything works out, Sauerbrun plays out the year and Ernster takes over next year.

He had good hang time on that punt as well...

Besides i don't think we are going to be punting that much this year

I read somewhere right from the Emperor's mouth that it will be thumbs up across the throat if Todd screws up again. (BTW, contrary to popular belief, thumbs down meant life, thumbs up across the throat meant death in the ring.

I think Ernster has cemented a spot as at least the K.O. specialist and punting option. If he's booting KO's 5 yards deep, it was still in a drizzle no? Or at least heavy air? I keep hearing good things.

Our first punt was halfway thru the 4th and we had zero turnovers. Booyah! I think we ran out of downs late once. BFD.

Speaking of kickers, I was reading one of the Texans boards and they are ready to send their kicker Brown to the deep. It was suggested that the Texans use their 2nd rd pick on Crosby from CU. I know many here would like to get Crosby as well. Maybe the Broncos can get a good enough pick for Lelie to land Crosby. Here's to hoping.

Roster spots are a big premium this year, I don't like the idea of wasting them on specialists. If Ernster continues to perform, I would almost be willing to just keep him over Saurbrun.

Hey Sourpuss, That little ephedra pill might wind up being a VERY expensive weight loss method!

Maybe you make some chump change on the body-building circuit ...Adios!

That is what I am hoping for. I am rooting for Ernster to look so good that we won't miss Sauerbrun and we can send him packing.

We don't need jerks on the team, especially the damn punter!

Ernster's knee was on it's way out those last few games and finally the ACL tore. I think he was trying to force the issue and was straining himself. Punting is more about form and technique than squinting your eyes and kicking really hard.

Ernster's motion is slower than Sauerbrun's but he's much cheaper. If he stays consistant through the preseason and does well during those four games, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if we let Todd go. He signed a deal that we get to keep his signing bonus if he jacks things up and you could certainly win a case in court that he did just that.

http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showthread.php?t=45122 --Remember this thread. We don't even need a punter so let's cut Ernster and Sauerbrun so we can have two more roster spots available. :D

In all seriousness Ernster was kicking the crap out of the ball last night and if he can do that on a regular basis then cut Sauerbrun this year or next year the latest.

I don't know, man. Sauerbrun was an asset last year. There's a huge drop-off between Sauerbrun and his predecessor, Micah Knorr - so it almost made living with Sauerbrun palatable. If Ernster can punt somewhere in the middle, than I guess it would be okay. But man, it got old only being able to rely on 30 yards or so net with Knorr.

Anyone know what the salary cap ramifications would be if we cut Sauerbrun? I know Khan mentioned the possibility of recouping some signing bonus, but that doesn't seem like anything that could bring us instant gratification with the cap. If his signing bonus accelerates - even if it is just long enough to sort through the issue of his repaying it - I wonder if it makes cutting him a non-starter.

This is a SUperbowl team. I wouldn't want Denver to lose any games this year because the kicker sucks. Saurbrun is one of the best in the game.

All of Ernester's kicks went into the endzone when he was kicking one direction and they weren't making it when he was kicking the other way.

I say keep Sauerbrun.

Well, one thing's for sure. Ernster will have a four game audition to show if he can be the only punter/kickoff guy.

Bradley, since you feel your future is at QB we have to inform you that we are only keeping two QB's and obviously one of them is not you. Not to rub salt into an open wound, but we feel Paul Ernster as a kickoff specialist is more important to our team, so you have effectively been beaten out by a kicker. Good luck w/your future and don't forget to ask "Would you like to Super Size that?"

I think that Shanahan is hoping Ernster plays lights out so that he can dump Todd. Stupids stick in Shanny's craw, and Todd definitely pulled a stupid.

I just re-watched the game. Ernster's only punt was a beauty. 51 yards to the 5 yardline with good hangtime and up against the sideline.

Lelie for Crosby, oh yea. A worthless, whiney WR for the kicking game in good hands for another 10 years.
