Correction. they say he is on the verge of signing with the patriots. I figure they pulled him off the mic too soon during his maniac man retirement press conference. guess he needs to play another year to get more air time hahaha.

Was Seau under contract when he retired? If so, then that team holds rights to him and he cannot sign with another team.

Something is wrong with this story. What would stop Lilly boy from just retireing and resigning somewhere else....
Maybe hes signing on in a coaching capacity???

Dolphins cut Junior
If that's the case, he can do whatever he wants.

He wasn't on a team when he retired. The Redskins said they wanted him, but he said he'd rather retire, but he also said he wasn't playin there b/c he didn't like the team, its just that he doesn't want to play.

Three days after announcing his retirement from the National Football League, former Chargers linebacker Junior Seau is on the verge of returning.
League sources confirmed that Seau will fly to New England tonight and, barring a last-second complication, will sign with the Patriots no later than Friday.
Injuries and free-agent losses have depleted the Patriots' linebacking corps, particularly in the middle. New England targeted Seau late last weekend, soon after word began circulating that he would announce an end to his 16-year career.
Seau, 37, is expected to play middle linebacker with New England. Current starter Tedy Bruschi is sidelined with a wrist injury and fellow inside linebackers Monty Beisel and Freddie Roach have been battling injuries as well.

This makes NO sense at all. I can understand trying to get that elusive SB title, but this isnt the NBA wher you can pick the best team and ride the pine, he is going to have to contribute!

I thought he "graduated?"
I do not care how depleted the LB's are in NE, what good would a 37 year old Seau do the Pat's?
Bad move in my opinion.

Seau could be a fine contributer to the Pats. People asked, what could Rodney Harrison bring to the Pats? Answer: A lot. Saeu won't bring as much but to say it's not a good move is ignoring history.

Seems like Seau wanted to enjoy the "graduation party." It would odd if a deal with the Patriots wasn't in the works prior to the "graduation party."

It will be a good signing if he does sign, but I don't think it will have a big impact on the Pats. You know Salisbury is just foaming at the mouth in anticpation waiting to talk about Seau and the Patriots.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Junior Seau (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=1548) is looking to join the New England Patriots (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nwe), just three days after the San Diego Chargers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=sdg) threw him a lavish retirement party.
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 align=right border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width=2></TD><TD width=65>http://espn.starwave.com/i/nfl/profiles/players/statsid/s1548.jpg</TD></TR><TR><TD width=2></TD><TD width=65><CENTER>Seau</CENTER></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
"Junior left a message for Chargers President Dean Spanos today alerting him that he may sign a contract and play for the New England Patriots," the Chargers said Thursday in a statement. "If, in fact, he chooses to continue his playing career, we wish him good health and the best of luck this season. Junior's place in the Chargers Hall of Fame awaits him when his career is over."
The San Diego Union-Tribune first reported on its Web site that Seau was heading to Boston for a tryout and could sign by the end of the week. Seau's agent, Marvin Demoff, did not return several calls from The Associated Press.
Reached in Chicago, where the Chargers will play the Bears on Friday night, Spanos declined comment. The Patriots did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but coach Bill Belichick recalled Monday that he got to know Seau in Hawaii in 1998 -- one of Seau's 12 Pro Bowl selections.
"He's always been a very energetic, high-energy type of player that has made a lot of big plays through his career," Belichick said when asked to comment on Seau's retirement. "He's had a good career, 16 years he's been playing, pretty good."
The Patriots are looking for linebackers because Tedy Bruschi (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=3571) has a broken hand and Willie McGinest (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=2743), another mainstay of their three Super Bowl titles, signed with the Cleveland Browns (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=cle) as a free agent. Chad Brown (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=2382) and Monte Beisel are also hurt.
Seau grew up in suburban San Diego and starred at Southern California before the Chargers took him fifth overall in the 1990 draft. He led San Diego to the 1995 Super Bowl -- its only appearance in the NFL title game -- but was cut loose in the spring of 2003.
He played three seasons in Miami before the Dolphins released him.
"It's pretty easy. When a team doesn't want you or need you, retire, buddy," he told a crowd of about 300 family, friends, players and team executives Monday at Chargers headquarters.
"I'm not retiring. I am graduating. Today is my graduation day. Retirement means that you'll just go ahead and live on your laurels and surf all day in Oceanside. It ain't going to happen."
Even as he announced his retirement, Seau said he was healthy and still able to play. Asked if his decision was irreversible, Seau said: "I can't answer that. I really can't.
"What situation can get me out of it? I don't know," he said. "If there's a need team out there, I'm definitely going to look at it. But we're almost halfway through training camp. I'm 37 years old."

This isn't a bad move for the Pats. They need help inside with Bruschi hurt and who else better than Seau is avalible right now? He certainly can't be any worse than either Brown or Beisel. If anyone can get something out of Seau its Belichick. He will know exactly how to play him to take full advantage of his eroding skills . Bryan Cox, Ted Washington, Roman Phifer, Rodney Harrison: BB has made these over-the-hill players into elements of superbowl teams. You could think of him as a replacement for Ted Johnson. If nothing else Seau add some veteran leadership, something they lost when McGinest left. Plus you have to figure that Seau will be hungry for his last chance at a ring.
Whats interesting is that Seau was always a freelancer, not someone you would think of as a BB guy.

This doesn't scare anyone. Billichick as noted will know how to stay within his game. He's not going to be asked to go sideline to sideline like his glory days. New England is still a contender needing help so it's a good fit. He shouldn't of announced his retirement till he was sure he wouldn't come back under any circumstance but if that's his greatest sin, he's a saint. They will just have him patrol the middle tackle to tackle and not put him into coverage except for a shallow zone. He will be fine.

Now, about Seau.
1 Mil. for 1 year if he passes a physical. While nobody expects him to play on the level of his earlier career, he should be able to play stop-gap when needed. Assuming he stays healthy and unhurt.
Nice to have the veteran addition who may still have a surprise year left. No harm if all he brings to the locker room for the younger guys is hunger, passion, and a challenge to step up.

I like where this thread went. Im a mainly asian chick kinda guy myself.
As for Seau, its not a horrible move. they have a lot of injuries. Im sure he would just fill in for the first part of the season then be relocated to a back up role for the remainder. Why not, hes following flutie and dwight in tryna cash in on a possible ring. He just jumped on the wagon a lil late.
