As everybody knows, Meck has put a lot of effort into his bus and the tailgates that he's thrown in the last couple of years. About a week ago, Meck called me up frustrated because he didn't feel like he's been getting the support from the Orange Mane that he feels like he should be getting for the tailgates that he hosts. Things have been getting overwhelming for him and his crew, and apparently he says that Orange Maners are starting to ruin the experience because they're always reaching into the coolers, but they're never the ones cleaning them out. Meanwhile, he feels like a sense of entitlement is growing around the tailgates, with not enough people chipping in to lend support.
Frustrated, we spent an hour last week talking about the situation and brainstorming on some ideas. My idea was to have a sign-up sheet and charge people a set amount to participate. Turn it into a business and only serve those who pre-register to be a part of it. He had a good point, though and said he didn't really want to turn it into a business. That it's a party, not a soup kitchen. That's a good point.
Another idea that I had was to maybe throttle it down so that the bus only comes out for special occassions. Its a lot of work, not to mention liability to drive that bus out to every game. And that's without mentioning the cost. The effort is tremendous to get that thing rolling. Meck didnt' like that idea either, saying that he doesn't want to "lose momentum" on the bus tailgates.
In the end, we decided that maybe the best idea would be to take it to the community and see if there were enough people out there to "keep the wheels on this thing."
Things start to get controversial here...
On August 8th at 5:05PM meck started a thread titled "Looking for Broncos fans.........To help keep the tailgate going." At 5:31PM, I browsed the thread, stuck it, and then started on preparations for dinner as my wife in her final month of pregnancy would be home soon and we have a nightly routine. I needed to get dinner done, because I had work to do upstairs once it was over. I lost a client at work, and as such am getting my paycheck cut until we manage to get the business healthy again. That's just a reality of the career field I've choosen, and I'm confident we'll be ok... The timing is just bad with a son on the way, while I'm also trying to tune up the server for the upcoming season. I did my work, and popped into different threads now and again to break the monotony of the sales writing.
What I didn't do, and what I should have done, was pop into the thread Meck started and encourage more people to take part in supporting Meck and his tailgate bus. I've been on that bus a few times, and know first hand what a great thing he's got there. I know first hand the work that goes into it. I know first hand the stress it causes Meck, as he tries to manage the entire thing. I should have said something to support Meck in that thread as quickly as I could have. The guy has done a lot for this site, volunteering himself by printing up cards that he hands out to people that walk by that include the Orange Mane website address. He's given of himself, and the least that I could have done was drop a line of support. I didn't do that and am ashamed of myself for it.
At 8:21am, the next morning, Meck asked me to unstick the thread and tore me a new one for not having said anything in the thread. He then asked a mod to have the thread moved to the Tailgate forum where he has the powers to delete it. I'm disappointed that he took this action, as the thread was actually starting to take off. Meanwhile, feeling the pressure of all the various things happening in my life right now, I echoed the tone he took with me in his gripe, I shot back at him that "I don't have time right now in my life for the drama surrounding this place or your bus. My son is being born this month, and my paycheck hangs in the balance." It was a poor thing to say, even under the pressure. I know better than echoing the frustrated tone of a frustrated man. When you do that all that comes next is more drama and frustration.
Sure enough, we've been having it out trying to get the other person to see things from eachother's point of view. Unfortunately, neither of us seems to be succeeding. Steve feels like the Orange Mane isn't reciprocating the efforts that he's putting in. I feel like I'm doing everything that I can to maintain my little part of the universe and have to make certain I take care of priorities like mortgage payments, baby preperation, and keeping things together with this site to be able to offer anything but moral support for the bus right now. But when he started a thread, I didn't even provide that, so what kind of friend am I?
In any case, Meck has made it clear that he no longer wishes to be the official "Tailgate Coordinator" for the Orange Mane, a position I created for him when he offered to get involved a few years ago. I don't blame him. He's been great at the position, and I wish it could have worked out forever. While the bus has never been an official part of the Orange Mane, Meck has always held his doors open for the folks of this community, asking little in return but a few bucks in the coffee tin, and some help on the side.
Meck has let me know that he's decided that rather than use the Orange Mane to plan his tailgate outings, he will be creating his own forum on his website at http://www.orangeforceone.com to better gain control of the tailgates and solicit the local support he needs to keep things moving and unencumbered by the frustrations that he has with myself and the lack of support he’s been receiving here. While I'm disappointed that he's turned this into an all-or-none proposition with his involvement here, I understand and respect his decision to withdraw his support of the Mane, and let people who are interested in tailgating with him and the bus do so on his terms, and under his own banner. It's probably for the best, as it makes sense that he shouldn't feel obligated to cater to anyone and everyone who claims to be an OManer, especially if he's not getting the support he needs to keep things running from game to game.
I’d like to thank Meck for the time he put into this place with his volunteer efforts, and encourage him to remain engaged in the community here in any way that he’s comfortable with. I hold no ill feelings for his decision to formally split off, and have nothing but love and respect for the guy. We had a lot of fun together, and I’m sorry that it had to come to an ugly situation like this.

Meck, GROW A SACK!! It definitely ain't Taco's fault that the tailgate is more than you can handle. It seems to me that you are trying to shift the blame to him for your troubles. Even if the almighty Taco did post in your thread, that wasn't going to change the problems you are having funding and organizing the tailgates. You are having a people problem, not a moderator problem. Taco could scream, kick and yell to get people to help organize and fund the tailgate and it wouldn't make a lick of difference.
And why you two guys are arguing is beyond me. You both have been pimping each other's projects since the beginning. You should be thanking each other instead of bitching.

Thanks Taco for the post. Meck, wherever you are, you have a lot of friends. Thank you for your heart for the common fan. I often wondered how you could do so much unselfishly. If you are there for the Monday nighter vs. the Ravens, I have a couple bottles of imported (by me) Gorilka for you my friend.

Ditto. It really is unfortunate that we dont' all live in or around Denver. I don't think OF1 would have all of these problems. A lot of people probably don't realize what Meck puts into the "party". It would be easy to assume that Meck was rich and just had an abundance of money and enjoyed throwing it into the Bus and Tailgates, but that clearly is not the case. He does it for the fun and to bring Bronco fans together, but that clearly has put a burden on his life and pocket book.

Go **** yourself asshole. When I was at the Ravens game last year Meck , Disco, and Ak made me feel like I was from Colorado. I had the best time you could have at a tailgate party. Meck and the crew do a awesome job and that beer and food don't come down from the heavens . I put 5 dollars in their box by the bus when I got there. And after the game I was gone to give 20 dollars to Meck because that beer doesn't get in them coolers by accident but being the nice guy that he is he told me to give it to the mane. Orangeforceone keep doing the things you have been doing because for out of towners like me it makes all the diffrence.

This isn't a thread about criticising Meck. He's put a lot of time and effort into his project, and helped out the Mane along the way. I just want people to know that we're going our seperate ways, and I'm truly sorry it had to come to this.

Hate to say it, i share similiar sentiments as Gonzo. If Meck wanted help with the tailgating stuff he should have spoken up sooner rather than later. Although ive never witnessed this personally i was always under the impression it was just Meck's toy and he just liked inviting people to hang out with him at the games. I dont see how this is TJ's fault although i understand that Meck doesnt want to fit the bill for everyone who hangs out with him on gameday. Either way, its really up to Meck to decide on how much people chip in even though im surprised that some people dont do it anyway when they hang out on the bus.

Meck - I'll make sure when I come out for a game this year I say what's up and pitch in. Last year I stopped by and checked out the hottub at the Raider game, but didn't feel comfortable eating your food without knowing you outside of this forum. I don't know how others could, maybe you left yourself open and just expected people to donate, but whatever the case---
I think it's a great idea for you to keep the party going by organizing it on YOUR website, that way your compensated for all the hard work. BRONCOS RULE and you both are true Bronco-maniacs.

This is exactly what i was getting at. I personally feel like you could never just walk up and start drinking beer or eating his food. But, if Meck never clarified any of this beforehand i can see how some people might take advantage. Im just not one of them. But i believe this issue just falls more on Meck's shoulders than TJ's but kudos to TJ for maning up and apologizing anyway.

I don't see the solution as laying blame upon anyone. There will always be the "could've" and "should've" thoughts...but, all that will do is cause division! Obviously there is an issue and instead of causing more division we should come up with a solution! There are so many people who say that they want to help...but, can't because they live so far away! However, more than half of us will make it to one game or another! So, instead of bitching about it, lets do something about it.
I'd be glad to organize groups for each of the tailgates to do the various tasks. I can't make it to every tailgate, but I bet that there would be a couple of people that will be at most that can take the organization we've put together online and put it into place at the games. The goal would be to have more than enough people to do the work so that there isn't ONE person doing it all the time and everyone still has time to have fun and party!
There will always be hiccups, but the goal is to minimize those and work together as a team and have fun in the process! I told Meck that whatever he needed, I would be willing to support 100%! :sunshine:

I don't know if it's a money issue or a lack of help.
If I was ever lucky enough to get to tailgate with Meck and the crew I know I would not ever assume to reach into any cooler or grab any food without it being offered to me and I would donate for sure. Just the way I was raised I guess. Maybe if more did this then at least the money issue if that is the problem would be nonexistent.
As far as help , I live in KC and when I do get out to a game once in awhile I will plan in some extra time to help out any way I can. THis along with the money issue is pretty common sense stuff........easily remedied if you treat others like you would want to be treated.
There is always a few that F... it up for the rest, I understand his frustation....hang in there...........

no kidding, especially considering it was just a few years ago that i met up with meck in a different lot back when it was just him, a pickup truck, and a few other people.
now he has to play entertainer so much he cant enjoy the games.
my sis and i talked about that not long ago.
he spent SO MUCH time trying to make everyone else have a good time that he often couldnt enjoy himself, and for every person who helped (either physically or monetarily) there were FOUR who would come in uninvited and help themselves to beer or food, and it got SO big that not even regulars like disco, me, ben, or others could distinguish between those that belonged and those that didnt.
anyway, its none of my business what happened between meck and taco, but ill go to bat against someone talking down meck any day, and hopefully all of us who attend can at least see this and try to help more.

Nobody forced him to buy a bus and promote it. The issues he is dealing with are the issues associated with growth. You take the good with the bad. He chose to go from fan to entertainer/fan and along with that comes a lot of pain in the butt issues. Hard to see how Taco is to blame though. Meck chose the path to take and now there are some rocks in the trail. I am sure it takes a lot of energy to keep it going and maybe the energy is running out. I would not want to play host every week, but that is just me. Meck will figure out a solution, he is not a dummy. If I were him, I would scale back and enjoy the games. I would not want to clean up after drunken slobs every game.

Meck- I've very much appreciated all the work and pulling you've done the past few years, with OF1 and with the Tailgate Forum itself (organizing all the threads and trips). You've been the man to go to for advice on pretty much anything about going to a game, and for tickets. I really hope you could continue to do what you've done. Keep up the good work!
TJ- You've run one of the best forums on the web. It's a place where I can shell out my free time without saying I've wasted it.

Whatever. Do what makes you happy.

We will bro but it's gotten a bit harder to figure out who everyone is....That's what I've been trying to relay to Taco.......Taco wants to run a media outlet and OrangeForceOne is more about the gameday itself and helping Broncos fans get to a game. Always has been. When I moved back to Denver in 2000 I didn't know a single Broncos fans. I logged into Broncos chat and ran into Spider and a couple other dudes. We've been building a tailgate since then.
Taco and I have been trying to find some common ground for about a week or so now and we've been beating one another up for no reason. He's trying to cover server costs and we're trying to figure out how to run a smoother tailgate at more stadiums. It's not Taco's fault things have gotten so big but the members are registered here so we've looked to Taco to try and figure out a way to manage things or atleast offer some ideas on how to structure it. We never had a formal plan in place and I think now we can come up with one.
One difference Taco and I that can't seem to get passed is the label of Omaner. I started off as a Broncomaniax back in 2000 when Spider and I started a board together. Then the omane popped up. I was suddenly an omaner. Then the freaks.showed up so I joined the freaks! Use to post on the Broncos board. Guess that makes me a Broncomaniac. Hell label me what you want but I'm just a Broncos fan. We are all the same in the parking lot at the stadium. Been saying that for a long time. OrangeForceOne has never been about excluding anyone. It has been about uniting Broncos fans. That is why we built her. I think it's working as Freaks, Omaners, Broncomaniacs...Whatever you want to call yourself have a place to hang up and meet up when you see a big orange bus in the parking lot.
I want to get the bus to more games. It has been alot of work but there is the challenge of hosting Broncos fans from all over the world. It's alot different than having a closed door local tailgate group. Plenty of those around the stadium. I use to walk by them when I first got here. That is why we do what we do.
I was kicking around the idea of setting up a seperate board so we can better organize some things. Didn't know Taco was going to start this thread but now that he did it seems as if the decision has been made. We'll move the tailgate forum to OrangeForceOne as soon as we can and ramble on......

I ALWAYS made sure to stuff a coupla 20s in the kitty for my 3 or 4 beers I drank before the games with tha Omaners. It is apparent that some folks felt it not necessary to donate. Fact is....Meck is not made of $$$, and he cannot foot the bill without some help. Man we've all been at this thing so long it seems like that one does not even take the time to realize what has gone into this great service that you both have provided (i'm speaking of course to Meck and TJ). You guys have made being a die hard broncos fan not just an obsession but an amazing experience day in and day out. You two have brought newbies like me to another level of fan-dom.
The orangemane originally became my hub here three or four years ago, I can't really remember which after the RMN Broncos site shut down. What had happened at the time felt like one of my favorite hobbies were taken away from me, however in the process of me and a few other regulars shifting to this website it became quite clear that this place, the orangemane, far surpassed our experience there. There were members just littered all over the place. I can remember some of my best dates being here... huge wins over super bowl champions, rivals, draft day celebrations, Hall of Fame inductions for our first ever player's entry in Canton. All of these current events became more than that through our discussions we've had on this forum. For that I thank you TJ and all the other contributors.
Meck you've had such a big impact on so many Broncos fans experiences here on this board. I've been lucky enough to make it to four Broncos games so far in my life. Out of those, three have been made even better by Meck and his services to this website. I'll be the first one to say that I haven't done enough for the amazing experience you brought me meck. I chipped in money but unfortunately I didn't think it at the time, I heard somebody have to ask. Not only that, what me and my friend who came with me enjoyed was so much better than any money I could have spent. If I would have known, if I would have thought about it more, I should have stayed and tried to pitch in. For that I apoligize.
I could tell you how you affected the experience Meck, and Disco, and so many others but I rather just show you. Three out of my four experiences with you guys, it was just simply amazing.

Me and TJ at the partying the day of John's acceptance speech into the hall of fame back in 04'. This tailgating area was setup by Meck and his boys very early on in the process of his tailgating. It was gaining momentum by this time but not HUGE like it is now. It was great to finally meet you TJ!

Our tailgating used to look a lot different back in the day... this was when Meck had just got things underway... you can see already that it was great to be a broncos fan! Besides, every redskins fan got boooooooooooo'd that weekend, it was great!
Seeing the Canton pics again makes me hope we get someone else inducted real soon, What a 3 day party it was.
Stop the ass kissing BPC :)

Dude, I've been dying to romp through Oakland... you let me know when you are ready to take that place. I'm not going any other way than dressed in orange and blue, head to toe...

Meck 77 I really hope you don't decide to broadcast a new site. I truly hope clearer heads will prevail. Maybe a separate paypal account for tailgates. Seriously I have never been to a tailgate party at Denver or any other place for that matter. I think you and TJ are a great duo in all you do. This kind of feels like a church (in the south we have lots and lots of churches) splitting b/c of a disagreement about carpet color. (believe you me it has happened.) Right now at my work we have done more volume of food service then the previous 99 years of the club history. I feel as if members are trying to out do the other members. I know how an arms race feels b/c I am working crazy hours. For example sleeping 9 hours in a 66 hour period. I hope Meck you don't separate from Orangemane.com b/c I have invested some money in to the pot. I not being local can see how you feel second fiddle. Maybe TJ can have a separate forum place like WRP board and Other sports board. For Tailgating forum along with the separate paypal account. I hope both of ya'll take a breather; sleep on it and gosh darn it don't make it become a greek tragedy. Honestly I have enjoyed the pics from the tailgate parties wishing I was there but me of all people knows what it takes to host a party formal or not. I pray that cooler heads prevail in all of this. Please don't split the mane up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the issue be with the moochers who are sponging at these tailgates rather than TJ? Perhaps I'm just insensitive, but I don't see what it is that he has to apologize for here.
Whatever. Do what makes you happy.
One thing I totally agree with is that I can't imagine taking advantage of Meck's hospitality at a tailgate without chipping in some money/effort to repay him. That's just lame, on every level.

Bottom line is you guys both do great things for us Broncos fans... I love having everybody here in one forum where we can congregate. I just think cooler heads can and will prevail we just definitely need to put some structure into this thing. I know, thats easier said than done especially by me who is so seperated from it all. I think we can all come to a resolution and if we do it here, we can set the guidelines so that we all know whats going on when we do meet.
Like I said, you guys have both been amazing and it would be tough to see the OrangeMane and the OF1 seperate and go their seperate ways. You guys have made some magic so far and as me and other forum members have said, you've made some of these Broncos experiences, just the experience of a lifetime.
Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and there can be a resolution.
Thanks again guys.

Well, as a tailgate attendee, the group I'm in with has always tried to help out in any manner that we could, be it set ups, break downs, bringing our own beer, cash donations or whatnot.....I just can't feature not doing things like that under the circumstances.
Anyways, sad to see it come to this.....hopefully, some sort of reconcilliation will be found in the future if and when circumstances change.
Damn if seeing these pics doesn't whet the whistle for some Omane tailgaitin'!!
Bro, you have no idea! This was my second ever game (HOF preseason game) in person and it was by far the most fun I had at any of them because of what Meck helped put on... of course without the OMane, I wouldn't even have known about the whole thing. That takes me to another special thank you to Tredici another forum member who gave up her tickets when she couldn't go to the enshrinement to me FOR FREE. If not, I probably wouldn't even had made it out to Canton from St. Louis.
This site is special. The people are special... thats TJ, Deb, Disco, CBF1, Meck, name em' all. I've had so many great experiences and I want to have soooo many more.

You guys will get it together, I know this.
My one experience at an OM tailgate was kick ass, AFC Championship 20 degrees out and humping in 2 cases of Bud Light from the light rail lot. Met some cool folks. The bus wasn't there but it didn't affect my enjoyment level one bit. The people are what make the tailgate experience, the bus is just gravy. I'll always have fond memories of that experience and even though we got our asses handed to us a couple hours later it was totally worth the trip!
WORK IT OUT YOU TWO!!!! (Please?)

Instead, I'd rather address the POS Broncos_love the little nimrod moron who I certainly wont miss here on the forum. Next year I plan on getting to a game and there had better still be an OF1 or some people are going to get hurt. It is really nice to see something so special being shared amongst fans, especially by those of us who can't be there for various reasons (geography, prior commitments, fiscal responsibilities, etc.). It would be a shame to see it come to an impass because a few people don't know how to chip in and contribute to keep a good thing going.
Here is to seeing both OF1 and the OMane thrive.

I'm not sure what the fight is about either. Everybody needs to sit back and assess the situation before making any rash moves.
I've been here awhile mostly as a lurker and I've drooled over the prospect of getting to a game and a tailgate. I always wondered if there was a place at the tailgate to bring some food (for everybody) and make it there. I'm shocked that people just walk up and partake as if it's a freebie (which it's been). Even if I can't make it to a tailgate I would be more than willing to contribute, just like I have to the Mane, and if I'm there I'll provide and clean up.
C'mon TJ and Meck. Don't be rash, it can be worked out. It's unfortunate this had to happen to wake some people up.

TJ & Meck just might be the nicest guys I know but have never met to do all this stuff for simple donations. My wife and I have discussed it many times and something soo big and sooo time consuming would consume the maker eventually.
Personally, I'm proud of TJ for making his wife a priority and his real career. I like Meck and wish him the best of luck b/c he deserves his own spot light.
But really the only one who really benefits from this is myself. Now I have two websites to visit so maybe it is a good thing for all and answers nothing for the contenders.
Bu then I am reminded - my father in law and I started a business together and after the problems rolled in we began to really hate each other, now we have our own businesses in the same field and each is doing better than the previous was and we love spending time together. Maybe this will eventually lead to something better for the both of you. Take it for what it's worth.

Interesting...
Just a few lessons here that this community and some great folks had to learn I suppose.
I caught a bit of an OF1 tailgate a few years ago and Meck literally forced a beer in my hand the moment I introduced myself...very cool...lots of good folks out there.
As someone who has been active in events based on online communities and charity work done in the same manner it has been my experience that it is really easy to post "Hey I am going to go there and help out" and really hard (seemingly) to do it. If someone made a thread asking how many people would pitch in 3 bucks to support OM I believe if you compared the amount of people who post they would throw in those 3 bucks and the amount of people that really do it would be laughable.
Another part of this is what my old man would call "the cost of doing business" so much time has been spent building and promoting this thing and it came true. Its the real deal...very cool bus made from a great community. Sometimes you have to watch what you wish for...you may just get it. Any venture this big was bound to go through growing pains. You can see this in the board and OF1.
Either as a partnership or a seperate group I hope whatever is best for both Meck and TJ gets worked out. Two people who have been pretty good to me. Chiefs colors and all.

I met Meck & Disco in Canton before I even heard of the O-Mane, when I ran into them again in Denver I asked both of them to sit with me at a taping of the Shanahan show, I asked them as Bronco fans, they later both became close friends. Meck intoduced me to the Mane and really encourged me to sign up I have and have made some good friends here and enjoy the ability to vent my thoughts and ideas on football and everything else to people here, I enjoy their thoughts and feedback.
I have been involved as much as I can with OF1. I have sweat and bled with Steve and Scott getting her out and home many a time, so I have some first hand knowledge of the feelings you have about what you do. The work that goes into it. You know that you are appreciated but sometimes it isn't enough. I have seen people abuse the hospitality as well. If it's ran as a business you can understand the loss...if it's ran as a party open to everyone YOU have a hard time having fun, everything needs your attention, you have to watch everything. I can for sure see how you could get burnt out of it fast. I really don't have any idea of a solution...it has a life of it's own, no amount of donations or helping hands will cure free loaders or homeless people from taking advantage. It won't stop 76,000 drunk people from walking out of the stadium and trying to steal beer or stumble and break, steal, anything that isn't bolted down.
Everyone seems to be running into a wall, TJ has got alot on his table right now and so does Meck, with BIG good comes BIG bad, in other words the larger the situation the larger the problems as the board and the tailgate grew so did the problems, maybe sitting back and scaling down is the best way to get a handle on things.

The tailgates have always been a community effort while the Omane has been TJ's "baby". We just need more beer/brats and Broncos fans willing to cook them. The party has gotten pretty big! It's a good thing!
Well here in the south we have a thing called potluck. Where every one that can brings something. Rather it bees my world famous baked chicken wrapped in bacon slowly baked for an hour to 90 mintues in a pan of lemon juice or a bag of chips or a two liter. Even panchos cheese dips out of the jar. (i will have to fedex you and TJ some also some central bbq ribs). But a sign up sheet will help. I know a world famous griller whose steak needs no A-1 sauce who I can't fly over there b/c of family. I just think a dedicated thread towards tailgating will energize the forum in ways that each feels like he or she has contributed b/c when some one feels as if he or she has helped makes the party all the more fun b/c each person loves to show piece their own famous recipes. And for the lazy a case of beer or chips will be do. We in the south love to organize potlucks and pass around a sheet to see who brings whats.

I'm glad I'm not the only one confused here.:)
I was thinking the same thing. If everything's so peachy keen, then why is TJ feeling compelled to make a public apology?

Most of us come from out of town here from the OM, so a sign up sheet of what to bring is difficult caz we cant exactly cook from out hotels.

How many threads and posts have you seen like this Baja? See post #51. It's been going on for years. It sucks that it's been this way for TJ....
As far as the tailgates go we just need some more volunteers to help setup, clean up, run a BBQ, etc....
When I started the tailgate forum here there were a few hundred registered members in 2002. Now there are 6,000. There are two thousand active members and there are tailgaters who aren't active posters here.
Money doesn't help run a tailgate. People make a tailgate. The tailgates have gotten big...real big....Taco can't seem to cover his server costs...On the flip side we can't pick up left over beer cans fast enough....

So we donate bucks, help with setup and cleanup...load the bus...stuff like that...or stop at the grocery or liquor store...or the local deli. Grab ice/beer/pop for the coolers...etc.!

he Mane has always been a "labor of love" for the team TJ's devoted to...and for the Broncos fan community that has been built here. The personal (out-of-pocket) costs he's absorbed to provide our little corner of "Broncos heaven" here in cyberspace have been substantial. It would be nice if the sum of the contributions covered his operating costs...and if there was a little "extra".... well, with the hours he puts into maintaining the site, I'd think that was marvelous.
This is the post you linked. Your saying an open apology to you from TJ is because he could use some financial help with OM expenses. OK if you say so Meck, I don't mean to pry.
BTW;I send money every year and encourage others to do so too.

As a private country club employee I say we could donate enough money to hire college kids to stay "sober" and clean up and cook "Johnson and Wales culinary school is located in Denver". To help cook and varies other activites. I know if we could give street credit to Johnson and Wales students or offer them a free seat if they cook for us then all the merrier b/c they gain experiences and we gain help. Experiences they could never forget and also maybe gain a life long bronco fan in the process. I know college kids are out to make an extra buck cash so maybe thinking out side the box is what is needed. I visited Denver in Febrauary so I donl't know how it is dunno the football season. Ya'll could make connections with various frats or culinary schools to hone their service or experiences minded needs. It would look great on a culinary resume that they cooked for a well established tailgate party with world famous bbq and burger patties b/c the real world dictates fast paced cooking and feeding in an establishment. Just a few ideas.

My first experience with OF1 was in KC in 2004. The game went down the tube in a hurry, but my experience tailgating with other Broncos fans was fantastic. Last season, I made it to the Redskins game, the AFC title game, as well as the KC game in KC. OF1 made it possible for someone living among a bunch of Chiefs fans to not feel alone in my Broncos fandom. I certainly hope there can be some sort of resolution to this that would continue all the great memories.
I'm all for more structure and paying for what you eat/drink. That way, it's in the front of everybody's minds that the tailgate isn't free. Some people don't mooch off the tailgate on purpose. They just don't think about it because they are having a good time.
Like I said, I would be open to about anything to keep the memories of great tailgating on OF1 alive...

Crushaholic...This thread wasn't started by me. It was started by TJ. His interpretation of what is going on and mine are two different things. Either way the Omane rolls on and so does the OF1 tailgate..... What TJ is proposing is that OF1 runs a seperate forum to where we can better handle things that are associated with going to a Broncos game like Tickets! Hotels! Beer! Food! Tailgating! (logistics of going to a game) That is what those associated with OF1 have been doing anyway...
Omane is the media outlet and OF1 is the tailgate!

Of course if we have in fighting we can't expect slave oops free experiences to college kids that would love to booze and experience a tailgate atmosphere honing their cooking and over all life experiences to be sucessful. I really think the Johnson and Wales avenue seems a vital part. Experience plus a few extra bucks to help pay tutition in a fun atmosphere away from campus. It can be done. Denver is a large city in the West between the Mississippi River and calorfornia. I know we can be inventive with ideas and solution to problems. Like I said a dedicated forum sub forum is what is needed to help Meck77 sort thru the various task that need to be complete if he had his own paypal account we could donate and he could dish out money to help with the over the top tailgate parites he does.

From what I understand, one of the problems is identifying people at the tailgate who may say they're OM'ers (or Freaks or from Broncomania). I have an idea that may help solve this problem.... once a person has "signed in" on the tailgate thread, a graphic (including the OF1 logo and their avy/username from whatever forum) could be sent via PM or email. Each "tailgate guest" would be expected to print out the graphic at home prior to the game and bring it to the tailgate, or even better, safety-pin it to their clothing. Then we'd pretty much know who's who...

Dollars are OK, but real service and help are Priceless.
You've done yours bro in many ways. Don't worry about that but it is about service and not $ on the tailgating end for sure.
If 1,000 active members sent $2.00 in to Taco the omane would have it's server costs covered for a full year! Small price to pay!

I am saddened by all of this. As I was wading through all 6 pages to get to this point I was trying to think of solutions. And I'd love to hear more brainstorming than blaming.
The sign up sheet is an excellent idea. Perhaps a hand stamp and/or name tag for the folks that paid. (An OF1 hand stamp might be cool!)
Meck, now that you have your own chunk of land near the stadium to host tailgates, you have some new options. Have you considered putting up temporary fencing on game days (like wooden stakes and that plastic roll-out construction fencing) to better control the crowd?
You'll probably have to turn some folks away, but if they REALLY want in then they'll have to be more proactive about planning ahead next time. I'd think you might want to control things for insurance reasons as well.
Right now it's late and I'm just thinking out loud and rambling a bit, but I'd love to hear more ideas from other folks that have been there and understand the problems at hand better than I do.

patswin has a point on insurance and liabilities. you are a much more generous and trusting person than i am if you can open your property up to strangers and relative strangers like that.
as for this whole debate or w/e, i dont know the specifics but i will just say that i hope it doesnt deteriorate the general experience of the mane and the tailgating.
i have said before that when and if i make it to the game, i would love to get their early, leave late, and donate because i cant express how great the mane has been to me. im the only bronco fan that i know so before, i had no way of connecting with other fans, talking bronco football with them, or doing things that i would otherwise be able to do if i lived in colorado. the mane means a lot to me after just a couple months and i would hate to see its quality deteriorate because of this split.
thank you for all that you do TJ and Meck and please dont let this change things more than necessary

But then again as Meck said it's not about the $$.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the issue be with the moochers who are sponging at these tailgates rather than TJ? Perhaps I'm just insensitive, but I don't see what it is that he has to apologize for here.
Whatever. Do what makes you happy.
Without reading the last 4 pages, i will only comment on me and what has been viewed from my eyes. If it wasnt for Meck and that welcome mat a few years back, this california would have never known about orangemane.com He didnt know me from crap and yet offered me a beer. I have always returned the favor as the example of bringing Clam Chowda, Sam Adams and some boston baked beans for myself, my wife and anybody from the mane. My wife and I cooked (with buknekkid and 12th man) and saw many non maners come over for free grub. Not that i didnt offer but i was just doing what meck did for me. Suck them into the community to make it stronger. After the game, seems many maners disappeared and we were (I THINK) the only ones to haul trash to the dumpster. People were around but didnt budge to help. As someone who puts a lot of work into the San Diego trip since 1993, i know what meck must go through times 10. This can also be a wake up call for those who take and not give back. Remember, we arent around to help unload, drain the coolers, clean the businside and out, etc. Yes he does this for the love of it, but dont think you are there at club rio all inclusive resort. It should take all to make it less stress and a fair tailgate. How hard is it to bring a 5 or 12 pack and some hamburger buns to the tailgate? Meck, anytime i am in denver ie. Faider game, you just let me know what to bring and how long you want me to cook, watch or evenif you just want me to stand there and drink beer, i am your drunkin servant. Now, cant we all just get along?
