You know, I never thought Griese was bad. Smart player, very accurate. Just couldn't quite win, and folded under the pressure when he was here. In the right environment, I think I might be really good. I hope he's found it in Chicago.

Its all about math. There are 32 NFL teams and only about half that many competent quarterbacks. When a long suffering no-quarterback franchise like Chicago (or Miami or Tampa) sees a guy like Brian Griese roll into town, much of the fan base performs this kind of auto-hypnosis and they convince themselves the guy doesn't suck.

They look at a guy like Griese and they don't see an emotionless robot, they see a calm cool professional. They don't see a guy with a weak arm and Frankenstein feet, they see a savvy veteran who's been in the NFL for eight years.

Hope springs eternal. Its even easier for people in a city like Chicago to get duped because they believe the rest of their team is good enough to win with decent quarterback play. Unfortunately, quarterback is only one position on offense that's sub standard.

Beezer is still carrying his cell waiting for the Bears to call. It's looking dim...I had to take 4 guns and a rottieproof vest from him a couple days ago.

Griese just didn't have "it". I'm not sure Jake does either, but he won't turtle under pressure. Other than a hobbled Rod playing on two broken ankles, he didn't have a hell of alot to work with. People would be hard pressed to even remember the revolving door. I remember Kubiak trotting out the nintendo when 4 of the 5 recievers were not even close to NFL caliber. Denver was busy drafting Defensive busts.

The big blunder was when Greise was rewarded handsomely for his gutsy play with a busted shoulder against Oakland. We all know how much Shanahan loves Oakland. He tripped over his dick in gratitude and thought Griese had "it". The lingering memory to me will always be Griese proclaiming that the last Oakland game was a "watershed" game, then him sitting at the end of the bench, literally alone. Remember, we popped a turd against Oakland last year too. I almost drove 1600 miles round trip to that fiasco. One suffering thru a wet snow in the GB game on a Monday night was more than enough for a lifetime. Reeves almost blew that. Another Reeves masterpiece was another Oakland game where we were up somthing like 27-0 or something and lost to Shanahan in OT. It's known as the "Bird" game, when Shanahan picked Reeve's limited mind and told the corner exactly what was coming. It's ironic Elway flipped off Shanahan that night but the same helped him get his just desert in his twilight.

We should of realized it would take a couple years for Greise to get his shoulder back. He also had a propensity to turtle under pressure, especially after his shoulder injury. I wouldn't put a ton of weight into Bear fans fawning over him, they haven't had a decent QB God only knows how long. Even Jimbo McMahon simply rode along for the ride of that defense in 85. BTW, I was at the infamous Monday night Bears vs. Broncos affair. I got home and told Tracy that "We are going to the SuperBowl this year". That chick had killer seats too. Dozen rows up at the 20 near the South Stands. On the home side. Rediculous seats really. You couldn't really see to the North End but at the South End it was incredible.

When the Duke hit Nattiel to close out a total thumping of Oakland in that first half, the crowd was going crazy and Elway pumped his fist going off the field and looked at me. I'm not an idol worshiper but it was pretty cool. Too bad Reeves curled up in a fetal position the entire second half then expected Elway to again pull a rabbit out of his hat. I was so incredibly pissed listening to Raider Fan chanting as we all grumble out calling for Reeve's head on a platter.

That was the begining of the end for Reeves...then he added insult to injury by reaching more than a mile to Tommy immature when Elway was crying for a franchise WR.

Enough rant. Griese just lost the team and had to go. We took the best we could find, and now it appears we have found our QBOTF in Blade. It appears we have a big infusion of skill position players to grow up around him. Hopefully Marshall's knee isn't serious.

I've always thought that Griese is as good as his protection...if you give him time, he can chew you up...if you apply quick pressure, he can & will make bad decisions...and maybe, just maybe he's improved that decision-making, I don't know.

Like TJ, I was never down on the guy...if the Broncos offered me a gazillion dollars to suit up tomorrow, I'd be happy to oblige.

I likely would be tarred, feathered & impaled on a stake after two plays, but, hey, I'd take the risk.

I think Griese can really help Chicago...in a back-up role more than likely, but with Grossmans history, that's tantamount to a starter anyway.

For some reason, my lasting image of Griese was I think a 2002 a game against Miami. One of Miami's tackles broke through almost untouched and Griese spun around and threw the ball up for grabs backwards and it was intercepted. After that I had no use for him.

So Trevor Pryce clocked Griese at that party? Why? What happened in that situation?

Griese taught Shanahan a valuable lesson. Knowing your system inside out and reading defenses does not an NFL qb make. The lesson Shanny learned is the team has to be ready to play for the qb. The QB must be a leader. The guys would not play for Griese.

So Shanny goes out and gets a leader in Jake Plummer, the team will walk on fire for Plummer the result is we got better. But not good enough because what Shanny got was a Griese that the guys will play for, a Griese with heart but a Griese none the less.

So what does Shanny do, he goes and somehow finds a way to steal a franchise quarterback after winning 13 games no less. God I love Shanny, he has learned from his mistakes. He is ten times the coach/GM he was when he started and will get better.

Look at the team he has put on the field this year and for the next ten years.

There is every indication he has gone from the bad signing of Griese to building a dynasty.

It's probably a little unfair because I was in Korea during the 2000 and 2001 season, so I've only known the 99 and 02 Griese. I hated that he looked bored and never played with any fire. I hated that he was horribly unathletic. It was like the Ron Dayne of Qb's. I felt that he got where he is today because of his Dad and didn't really earn it. Yup, I was a hater.

When I found out the "dog" was Trevor Pryce laying this fool out, I rejoiced. When Jake came in and we had a QB that was actually excited about the game and winning and played with a fire in his belly, it was so awesome. It was like I could enjoy the QB position on our team again. Plummer will always have a place in my heart for replacing Brian Griese.

Ah, Griese was his normal efficient self during this game. And as usual, he found a way to be on the winning side. This guys efficiency rating will always be one of the highest in league history. Unfortunately they don't have an efficiency rating for choking in the big game and being a total suck ass.

Does anyone remember Griese's first regular season start, again I think against Miami, when the first play from scrimmage he threw I think like a 50 yard TD pass to Smith. Everyone was juming for joy, celebrating. Then the camera pans to Griese back on the bench and he is way at the end of the bench away from everybody, with a baseball cap pulled over his eyes, sitting slumped on the bench. I was like WTF!!
