Shanny post game comments

"Three turnovers killed us, but some of the young guys really stood out"

"Cutler showed a lot of poise and did an really excellent job as did Tony Scheffler ... I was really impressed with Scheffler as well. I'll take a look at the film and if his blocks were as good as we think then hes got the whole package"

"But you cant turn the ball over three times and expect to win, particuarly when you lose the turnover battle by two."

I guess Shanny didn't see the play where the DE ran around Sheffler like he was standing in wet concrete. Ha! At least Sheff saved the fumble he caused. Mike will see it on film. Who cares. Sheffler's blocking will improve. He's already a damn fine receiver with great hands. That's the part you can't teach.

With Mike Bell's weak performance, do u think he gets demoted this week. Did any of the backs really stand out? Cobbs played scrubs and did descent.

I hope Shanny just sees that it was just nerves for Mike Bell and doesn't take the starting job from him based on 1 bad day. This guy can b a major talent, i just hope Shanny realizes that he was nervous in his first pro game.

Dudes'...it is so hard for even the head coach to make any sense of the 1st pre-season game!! Relax...breath deep... take a Valium!

You could tell the boy was jittery and he has the burst to get through the line quicker than any of the other backs, but if doesn't lose the nerves he won't be any good to us. Hold onto the ball or c-ya

Bell looked pretty good, don't know what you're talking about. Sure, the fumble was bad, but he was busting through holes and gaining good yardage on every play. I was happy with what I saw from him.

Mike Bell was alrgith. Evenr rookie RBwe've ever had has fumbles. In factr he was concentrating SO hard on not fumbling it was probably inevitable in the first quarter!

Think about his past week, M. Bell goes from just barely hoping to make the team a week ago today to being promoted to starter for before his very first NFL game! He was so jacked up he was about to pop out of his unifrom!

Give the Kid a chance now to settle down and get some rhythm and he'll be fine.

Who was knocking Bell?

I think it's kind of good that he fumbled. It might hurt his status on the depth chart and is the first mental hurddle he'll have to overcome. Let's see what he does with a dose of adversity...

It's not good that he fumbled. He should've known damn well to cover the football after contact. It is not like he's never carried the rock before. If he doesn't learn this he will never get on the field. Yes it is his first game, and he will ge the benefit of the doubt. If he doesn't learn from this, he will never see the field.

You're right! It cost us the game! That one fumble could be a sign of player ne'er to be! He must improve at all costs! There is no time for him! He is on the verge of destruction! Can he stop the spiral down to his own oblivion? OH NOES!!!!!!

Clinton Portis fumbled three times in a preseason game when he was a rookie. He rebounded pretty well.

Methinks Mike Bell will get a shot at redemption next week.

I agree. He looked good cutting and getting through the hole. I like the way he drives through the lane too. You have to take the good with the bad. There are a lot of good backs that go down easily. That probably saves some fumbles for them. How often is the 2nd or 3rd hit the one that jars the ball loose? Had Bell gone down easy he would have never fumbled. Can't expect him to have Jerome Bettis or Marshall Faulk hands right away. It's just not reasonable.

Mike Bell gets through the hole fast. He doesnt look like he has a huge amount of body control afterwards though.

You were right about the vision and the stop and start quickness. I thought he looked pretty damn good. Positive yardage and some decent power. If he wasn't giving it his all and afraid to get hit, he probably wouldn't have fumbled.

I don't know how he is doing in camp, but I know in college he had a little bit of wiggle. Great feet and somewhat stiff hips still make for decent body control. I think he'll be alright.

He needs to work on what to do after he gets through the hole. Don't let them stand you up so you fumble. Try to stay ballanced so you can make people miss. Writhing around to try and get extra yards is less effective, etc.

Seems like he was trying to plow through a bunch of tacklers when he got turned around and then popped. I know what you mean, but I don't think he was in that type of situation when he fumbled.

looked like a helmet hit square on the ball. That makes it tough to hold on. How about Kircus he looked pretty good.

Baja, we may just have to pimp Watts together all season. Not very many of us that never gave up on him and still support him.

Exciting times for Bronco fans. Just think. Cutler, Walker, Marshall, Watts, Scheffler, Bell, and perhaps even Kircus for YEARS to come. Awesome!

Not to mention a young core D with DJ, Fox, D Will, Dumerville and Champ has some years left too.

And a young good O line in the making.

What's really great is that Rod Smith and Javon Walker werent even out there and Cut was still able to put the ball where rooks and second/third teamers could make the grab in stride.

He's already developed rhythm and repoire with "his" practice guys, and it already works.

How about Scheff, huh? Pretty impressive dude himself.

As I was watching Cutler, I was thinking back to Elway's first preseason. Remember looking at highlights from that first year, and thinking, "No way did he ever look that young!" I wonder if we'll be saying that about Cutler some day.

The kid can certainly make all the throws, and he has real poise. One thing that he needs to work on - something that will come with experience - is that he really telegraphs his throws. Even watching on TV, you had a basic idea to which part of the field the ball was going. I can't imagine how clear it would have been on the field. But overall, I must say I am really pleased with him.

He got hit in the elbow while in the middle of a spin move!

Some folks in here need to take a deep breath. I'm just glad no one was hurt seriously. Hope all is well with Marshall.

What I saw from Bell, and I said this when I saw him in a college all star game (http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showpost.php?p=1103909&postcount=15), is that he doesn't run with a lot of natural body lean. When he does, he tends to get out from under his pads a little bit. Very common problem for a lot of backs that can sometimes be corrected with coaching.

I got the impression that Shanahan could barely contain his glee.

I almost expected him to break into an Irish jig and sing 'hallelujah'

As it was, he defiantly fought off the temptation to break into a broad grin every time someone asked a question about Cutler.
