This is silly, but I'm not in the military. For those of you in the military, are you REALLY offended that Schottenheimer made an age-old analogy of "bullets flying"?

SAN DIEGO (AP) -Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer apologized Thursday for saying new starting quarterback Phillip Rivers will be tested "when the bullets start flying."
Schottenheimer said his words were unfortunate while U.S. troops are in combat.
"I've often said if you stand in front of a microphone as many times as I do, you are invariably going to make a mistake and I made a mistake," he said. "But the good thing about it is I will never forget that mistake."
A retired Marine colonel had criticized Schottenheimer's remarks in a letter to The San Diego Union-Tribune. "Football is not combat, it is a game," he wrote.
The Chargers preseason game Saturday against the Green Bay Packers is labeled as a "Salute to the Military." Earlier this year, the team worked out at Camp Pendleton, a Marine base north of San Diego.

I can't wait till I retire from the military so I can get all uppity when someone makes a war reference about football.....sheesh. Most of us in the military don't give a darn if people make a war reference. Its not like the military are the most politically correct people, crap we do it too.

As a guy in the military, and one who has had "bullets flying" around him, I say GET OVER IT. Its a figure of speech and its been used in that context forever. (this dosent make marty any less of a weenie...) But Jeez get off it already.

The analogies to war and football are many.
The Carlin Football vs. Baseball analogy/comedy is one for the ages.
We should be more concerned about Lieberman being raked over the coals by the Democrats than Marty.

This is ludicrous. "Let the bullets fly" is hardly a slam on our troops. These PC idiots don't have any perspective at all. People and coaches have been using war terms for decades regarding NFL football.
Now when we call a player a Warrior it's an insult to Native Americans?
I don't rmember the "SOULJA" making any appologiies. Don't forget, at 90 percent he's the best in the NFL.
