View Full Version : Mild Concerns ...?

This camp is going great and only highlights the great drafts we've had the past two years and great FA scoop from last year!

So far so good. The only points of possible concern thus far are four biggies

Rods hammy
Javon's knee

Big Money's toe
Courtney Browns knee

I realize all four should be ready to rumble by September.. and I certainly hope so ... but all four do raise a little bit of a red flag.

Rod amd Money are the most likely to be full go in my view with maybe Javon ready for action as well.

I get the feeling we maybe pushed JAvon a little too much last week because he was doing so well and was so fired up and wanting to make a big impression on his new team. After I saw him come down on his repaired leg a little funny in the endzone in a video clip during Wednesday or Thursdays practice, he seemed to not be heard from as much afterwards. He was still running plays and all, but now he was held out again yesterday for pain in his repaired knee.

I would treat Walker with kid gloves right about now and ease him into action over the next month. We already know what he can do, lets just make sure there are no setbacks now.

With Rod, the hammy could become a long time nag. I suspect he'll be back playing fairly soon knowing Rod, but at his age those things can really linger and he certainly doesn't need many reps to be ready. Again, let him be a player/coach on the sidelines during camp and the preseason.

Same with Big Money, a big toe dislocation doesnt sound like much unless you are a 340lb DT that has to push off on it every single play! We simply cant afford to lose Warren in the middle.

Courtney is my biggest worry, from strictly a health point of view, with the repairs he's already had on that knee that is now swelling again. You could see him limping in practice last week from all reports.

He and Money together are a major reason for our success last year, particularly against the run, so we need both those guys firing on all cylinders by Sept 11.

The ironic thing is that if numbskull Lelie had reported for camp when his bid for a trade didnt work out, he would very likely be the #1 WR right now!

If Rod winds up having leg problems this year that hampers him, as is possible ... and Javon still needs a few months or so for full-on contact and 60 minutes of football, Lelie would have gotten everything he wanted in spite of it all!

In any event, as high as I am on Marshall, I hope he doesn't have to start as the #1 or #2 this year. Nevertheless, I am glad to see Terrell coming on stronger the last few days as we may need some more veteren experience at WR early on.

On the bright side, it still looks likely that all 4 of these guys will be able to go against St. Louis... so that its for injuries - we've had our quota for the year!

And as for Lelie, now is the time to cash in our chips on him and bring in a new DT or DE if a decent one can be had!

look what happened in preseasons in the past:

1. Tory James blows out a knee
2. Elway rips his bicep
= super bowl win

injuries happen, it is better now then in 5 weeks or so.

Rod Will be fine, Javon will be fine, Warren will be fine, Courtney Brown is always broken.

Yep, thats why I said ts only 'mildly' concerning now. Its just that our top two WR and top two D-lineman have 'issues' right now, so its a great time to shore up the D-line with another solid player since we aren't bringing Lelie back in to fill in any gaps that may happen at WR.

And no doubt at least 3 and perhaps all four or our guys should be very productive for us this year as it is.

Precautionary measure. I mean look around...Rod's not playing, Bloom didn't play, and T.O.'s not playing. I mean, that's just a few. Javon will be ready come game time and it matters. All veteran players say that the preseason is to long anyways.

I think that if it was the regular season, he would be playing....

I think it's more a case of the Broncos being overly cautious with him than him not being able to play. He's been the star of camp thus far, but they've said more than once that he's only about 90% right now. No need to run him out there until he 100%.

Injuries arent concerning unless they are season ending. At least, not to me. At this point of the season, the only things concerning me are how the team is doing.

So far, mostly good. I am concerned about the defensive line still, as well as the TE position and o-line depth. We cannot afford an injury to the offensive line IMO, the dropoff is significant.

For the first time in recent memory anyway, I feel the best about our secondary. LBs are probably the best overall unit, but their jobs have never really been in question. The secondary however I think is overall the best secondary in the league.

What does this do for us? Not much without a pass rush which is why its so important that we do more this year on the line. Save the blitzes and get push with the front four, thats going to be whether we are a SB team or not. If we can't generate some more sacks, particularly on 3rd down, then we are going to be in for a very familiar season.

As far as all that encompasses though, I'd say I like our chances as much as anyone else at the top. Everyone has questions about their team, thankfully we do not have many.

He's close... given his injury his ability to come back in a year was questionable but he should be ready to go for week 1...

I think he would play in the first preseason game, if it wasn't in Detroit. No reason putting him back on the turf he tore his acl on.

When I read mild concerns I thought you were having trouble finding Superbowl tickets.

for sure there are always worries. All of these 4 things are a concern. Not like we have ever really seen Rod Smith have to sit out much. And a big toe for a big guy can linger and be a prob all season. Walkers knee could pop agian at anytime. And we have a rookie at rb now!!!!!!!!! Well its safe to say it won't be boring or without drama.

I honestly think that Javon is fine and doing ok. They are just easing himin and out of the lineup as a precaution. Plus i think if the preseason game this week were being played in denver on grass rather than astro turf he would b out there with the starters. Probably same with Rod.
