Jones on the move?
<Aug. 7> Dropped to No. 2 on the Bears' depth chart behind Cedric Benson, Jones has a emerged as a potential trade target.
Denver is reportedly offering disgruntled wide receiver Ashley Lelie in exchange for Jones. Another possible suitor is the Jets, who are concerned about starting RB Curtis Martin's surgically repaired right knee, according to The Star-Ledger.

Bears head coach Lovie Smith doesn't seem interested in the prospect of losing Jones, who led the offense with 1,335 rushing yards and nine touchdowns last season.

"You heard me talking about Thomas a little while ago and what he means to our team and can't wait to get him on the field," Smith said recently. "There was nothing about we can't wait to get him out of here. Thomas is a valuable part of our team, and I'm sure a lot of teams would like to have Thomas Jones. We're one of them."

I'd rather we went after some DT help than RB.

I feel better about RB right now. I'd rather land a TE, DL or draft pick at this point.

I'm seriously concerned about the D-line as of now, anything Denver can put together should go towards improving our passrush

Not sure the Bears can lose Jones with Benson getting carted off the field the other day. Jones IMO isnt going anywhere soon.

Why would any NFL team in this day and age get rid of a proven backup RB when you just KNOW your started is going to get hurt at some point in the season? Particularly when your passing game is mostly lacking.

I dont see this happening ever.

I like Jones but the Broncos dont need Jones. The answer is in this current backfield. Get the best possible pick for Lelie or let him rot, but dont trade for Jones.

Lelie will have to come to camp one day soon. He must wake up and smell the coffee there is no #1 spot out there for him or he would be there by now.

At this point in time would he even get a roster spot??? That would be a major kick in the nuts for kids such as Kircus or Devoe who've been working their asses off whilst this douche-bag has been bitching on the sidelines.

Lilly is sitting at home, praying that someone out there gets injured.

Yes it would suck but if he came in today he would be the #3 guy by opening day. probably cost my man Watts his job too.

Although Shanny might want a new contract from lelie everything considered. lelie has rolled the dice and lost no one wants him all that badly and certainly not as their #1 guy.

Problem is that he's not working out so he's gonna be more apt to get injured should someone pick him up. All the teams interested are taking that into consideration. He is one dumb sum beyotch.

Yeah but he's a better player than those guys. Shanahan and the players get paid to win games. That's why you heard all the players in the offseason saying they'd welcome TO with open arms...because he'd help them win games.

People seem to think that Lelie is some sh!tty receiver and he's not. He's one of the most explosive deep threats in the NFL and would be the best #3 WR in the league if he played for the Broncos this year.

What makes you think Lelie isn't working out? He's been working out all summer in Arizona.

With who? Every report I've read says he's not working out. He may be in shape but he's not doing any drills or catching balls.

Whatever working out Ash is doing, it doesnt compare to being in camp and since Ash has sucked when he has been on time, imagine what he will be like 3 weeks behind.

If that trade was going down I doubt Shanahan would of promoted MB just to fracture him. Bell would of been excited just to be named #1 KR so he knew he was on the right track. It's possible, but even Shanny isn't that cruel. Thomas would come in as a #3 to start off I imagine.

I didn't know he was the 7th overall in 2000. Can you imagine the Hissy Fit TB would throw? I just don't think we would of promoted MB if this was imminent. However, who knows what Shanahan will ever do next! I certainly didn't see the Cutler move coming. Noone did that I remember, both here and in the media. If Jake had a horrible year, maybe. His poor performance against Pitt might of made Shanny to make a move when it was available to him.
Jones isn't really young, but I suppose he would be a player to have MB groom under if he could shake the hammy. I'm starting to get the feeling that Tater Tot will try to take the first train out of town first chance. He might calm down tho. He might not.

Very true...I doubt he's doing a Walter Payton running stadium steps. One time we were hangin out on Lookout Mountain and up hops, of all people...Bjorn Borg. He had run up the mountain. I'm not saying he ran the whole way but he certainly scaled it and was jogging when we saw him. We all smoked a bowl and off he went bounding down the rocky slope. It was surreal.

Let me get this straight UDFA Mike Bell comes into camp and goes from 4th to 1st on the depth chart yet Lelie who was last Years #2 WR and is competing against a guy that is 36 years old and another one that is coming off a torn ACL holds out because there is no way he could be the #1 WR???

I guess with that attitude he is right. There is no way Lelie could become a #1 WR but it's not because he wouldn't have had the opportunity. It's because he is too big of a p#ssy to go out and give a man's effort.

Benson is fragile, even Angleo has to realize it even though Benson is his boy. They locked up A Peterson but I don't see Duh Bears moving Jones this late in camp. BTW Sounds like we don't need him anymore.

Get a DT, TE or highest pick possible or let him rot.

Here's what was written in today's Chicago Tribune, so this deal doesn't look very likely. And the part about Denver asking for a 1st or 2nd round pick makes it very unlikely we'll trade him at all. Get used to holding down that couch in Arizona Ashley because you ain't goin' nowhere.

"Denver is talking to as many as 10 teams to shop unhappy receiver Ashley Lelie. But a deal remains unlikely with the Bears because Denver has asked for either a first- or second-round draft pick or a player who can contribute immediately. Another red flag with Lelie is that though he could be a difference-maker, he is not working out with his team and could come in with a higher risk factor for injury." -- Chicago Tribune

If they're talking to up to 10 teams about AL, he'll go somewhere eventually.

Bears changing tune on Lelie
<Aug. 8> According to ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli, the Bears might be reconsidering the possibility of acquiring Lelie. Although Chicago still won't trade running back Thomas Jones, the Bears might be willing to part with former first-round defensive lineman Michael Haynes.
Published reports indicated the Bears recently offered a fourth-round draft choice for Lelie, but the Broncos are holding out for more, with several other potential suitors interested in the disgruntled wideout.

But adding a player to the trade mix like Haynes, a first-round pick from Penn State in 2003 and a player who seems to have fallen out of favor with Chicago coaches, might get the Broncos interest.

Haynes would be a nice pickup.

What if no trade comes about, and Lelie continues to sit, and sit, and sit. When does he have to come out of his holdout to "play" in games so he can become a free agent?

I hope an offer comes up soon so we don't waste a roster spot on this guy.
I'd settle for a 4th round draft pick, just to get something for him at this point. Hopefully some team makes an offer after the first games.

Hell, at this point I'd go for the draft pick straight up. Later round 2nd to high or mid 3rd. Just to get something out of the deal.

Can they put him on the "Reserved - did not report" list and not count him on the roster?

I think if Jones goes anywhere it will be to the Jets. I heard Curtis Martin did not report.

SUpposedly the Jets are hot and heavy for a RB now. Curtis Martin's injury sounds to be career ending. I've heard the rumors about Thomas Jones being that RB. Perhaps a 3 team deal would work here. Thomas Jones to Denver, Tatum Bell to NY, Ash to Chicago with the Jets kicking in a 2nd to the Bears and the Bears kicking out a 3rd to us. That's so crazy it just might work!!!

Denver gives Tatum and Ash. Gets Thomas Jones and a 3rd.
Chicago gives a 3rd and Thomas Jones. Gets a 2nd and Ash.
NY Jets give a 2nd. Get Tatum Bell.

Well according to his agent a deal should be done in a few days, of course he said that weeks ago.
