Welcome to the 2006 Fantasy Football Geeks League.
In this episode, we discuss how Mile High Slut stole last years title and how to restore credibility to the league after having an lowly rookie win the title in its inception year (Mtbronco 2004 champ) and how to dethrone its current crownholder Mile High Shack.

The draft is onsite at our Sportsline.com Geek league page. They have a java-based draft room that we can use to do our draft. Also, it allows you to queue up your wishlist of players and rank them beforehand. Hopefully it will be as smooth as the first and second year in terms of drafts (last year's draft was done in 1 hour 45 minutes!)

Hey thanks, Rascal! You really think those guys will put up better numbers than Quitterson? I know I played people last year who had him and he burned me.
I think you did pretty well too... but yes, any of those guys that Rascal mentioned are likely to put up better numbers than Quitterson. Especially Roy Williams and Derrick Mason. Roy Williams isn't undervalued right now, but Mason sure is! I was hoping to wait another round and grab him. My WR's are my weakest link. Other than that I feel pretty good about my team.
QB's
Brad Johnson
Jake Plummer
Mike Vick (Starter)
RB's
Chris Brown (+/- Flex)
Willis McGahee (Starter)
Clinton Portis (Starter)
Fred Taylor (+/- Flex)
Michael Turner
WR's
Issac Bruce
Antonio Bryant
Plaxico Burress (Starter
Greg Jennings
Randy Moss (Starter)
TE's
Chris Cooley (Starter)
Jermaine Wiggins
K
Jay Feeley
D
Tampa Bay
I'll have to play the lineups with my QB's, but I like having 3 options. Most likely will go with Vick and Plummer most of the year though.
Love my RB's. McGahee and Portis give me one of the best 1/2 combo's in the league. Fred Taylor and Chris Brown give me excellent depth. Turner will get some more carries this year b/c of his success last year, and if LT should happen to go down, "I'm in the MONEY!!!"
Not thrilled with my WR's. Randy Moss could certainly put up 1400 and 15 TD's, but I'm not holding my breath. I think 1100 and 8 TD's is more likely... about the same with Plax I think. I wanted Matt Jones but Shack stole him (I think it was Shack anyhow) but I'm happy with Antonio Bryant and Issac Bruce as my #3/4 receivers. I took a flyer on Greg Jennings b/c Favre likes to air it out and Jennings is the #2 in GB. I know better than to put faith in a rookie WR, but I took him with pick 16 or 17 so what the heck.
Chris Cooley at TE was a great pick, IMO. I was going to take Shockey w/my 4th rounder and then go with Mason or Roy Williams with my 5th (or something like that...lol) but there was a run on WR's so I grabbed Plax instead. Consider this though, last year Cooley caught 71 passes and had 7 TD's, and he was one of the guys opposing defenses could focus on. This year he'll have Moss, Lloyd, and Randle El clearing/drawing the coverage and he'll be able to roam a little more. Plus having Al Saunders at OC (Loves TE's, see Winslow and Gonzo here!) will help to keep him involved. Not saying that he's going to be the top TE in the leauge, but I think he'll sneak into the top 3. I expect 70-700-7 from him. I suspect I'll get it.
Kickers and Defense went well. I have my eye on another D, but I'll wait for awhile before grabbing them. Had some easy shots at good D's, but didn't like the fact that they're playing in Domes to close out the season. If I grab the Bears D I want to know they are playing in Chicago come December, not on the road in a dome! Don't get me wrong, they will still be good... but the shutouts and multiple turnover games are not as likely outside of the rough Chiccaca winters.
Good luck everyone.
Oh, and I think Slappy had the line of the night last night. "My players are worth a lot more than yours", or something like that! In other words, if my trade offers seem unfair... THEY'RE NOT! My players are better and you should feel privledged to have an opportunity to acquire them! ;D

A lot depends on Chester Taylor and Wali Lundy. If Taylor carries his weight and gives you a solid #3 at RB you'll do well. If Wali Lundy does poorly and Morency becomes the starter you'll do well!
Speaking of Lundy. Being the starter in Houston will offer him a great opportunity to rush for about 1200 yards. I'm guessing that is about 300 more than Reggie will get (rushing). At any rate, if Lundy out rushes Reggie Bush and Mario Williams gets say 8 sacks... will the National Media turn Gary Kubiak into the Mastermind II? IMO, if Lundy out rushes Reggie a lot of pressure will be lifted off of the Texans franchise for not drafting Homer. Regardless of what Mario Williams does.

You:
QB: Vick, Plummer, B Johnson
RB: McGahee, Portis, F Taylor, C Brown, M Turner
WR: R Moss, P Burress, A Bryant, I Bruce, G Jennings
TE: C Cooley, J Wiggins
K: J Feely
D: TB Bucs
Me:
QB: J Plummer, M Bulger
RB: R Brown, L Jordan, C Taylor, D Rhodes, W Lundy, M Drew
WR: D Driver, D Mason, L Evans, T Williamson, C Bradford
TE: B Watson, B Troupe
K: J Reed
D: Miami D
QB: I like Bulger more then Vick personally, and I doubt B Johnson will ever start for you unless things go down the ****ter.
RB: I don't think it's even close...clear advantage to me.
WR: You have the advantage here but not significantly. Moss is the big ?
TE: I love Watson this year, but Cooley should do good as well. Personally I think it's a push.
K: Who cares
D: A push but maybe slightly your favor
I think my team is better simply because of the RB's (5 starters), but of course I benefited from knowing Lundy was going to be the starter before it was announced. But both are good teams.

I see it this way... Bulger is highly overrated, especially with a new offensive philosophy. I think Plummer will have a better year and with Plummer and Vick I can play the match-ups more effectively.
At RB you're depending a lot on Lamont Jordan doing well. I think it's a safe bet that Ronnie Brown will do well. I'll lose some points with Portis being out a week or two, but his upside under Saunders is phenomenal. He could be a 1500 yard back even missing a game or two. You have good depth at the position but I have great depth. Lundy could very well go for 1200 yards and double digit scores, but chances are good that Morency takes over as he learns the system. IMO, he's outclassed him in the preseason and deserves the nod. Could be a matter of time. Fred Taylor on the other hand is the clear #1. I guess all in all I'd call it a push. You're depending a lot on Chester Taylor running the ball well in Minn and/or Lundy starting all year. I'm depending on Fred Taylor staying healthy and/or Chris Brown remaining the starter all season.
Randy Moss over Driver is not even close. Burress vs Mason is a push. Burress will end up with more yards and TD's, but Mason could very well end up with more catches. I certainly have the bigger potential between the two. As far as back ups though I think you probably have me. Lee Evans is in the same boat as Bryant (depending on a questionable QB) but Evans has the greater potential of the two. Troy Williams also has more potential, but Issac Bruce is a proven vet. Still I don't think that the Rams will be AS successful throwing the ball. You get the edge in depth but I think I have a clear edge with the starters.
TE- Wash. Watson will be a go to guy b/c of the lack of receivers. Saunders has made legends out of TE's. Cooley had 700 yards and 6 or 7 TD's last year, and his #'s will only go up. If Branch was playing and Jackson was up to speed I'd give this one to Cooley, but without those guys in action it's a wash. Should be a good one to watch develop though.
K's and D's..... Like you said. Who cares!!! (But Feeley and the Bucs D are better! ;D)

1. Shaun Alexander
2. Larry Johnson
3. LaDainian Tomlinson
4. Tiki Barber
5. Rudi Johnson
6. Carnell Williams
7. Edgerrin James
8. Clinton Portis (Mine Geek)

11. LaMont Jordan (Yours NPN)
12. Willis McGahee (Mine Geek)

14. Kevin Jones
15. Reuben Droughns
It's pretty damn even!!! FWIW, I think Caddilac is down below McGahee, but that's neither here nor there... same with Steven Jackson.
I had Portis at 7 and McGahee at 8 (closeout schedule!!!). Jordan at 10 and Ronnie Brown at 5.

Relying on McGahee to be your #1? I stopped reading there.
Brown>>McGahee or Portis
L Jordan>McGahee
C Taylor>F Taylor
Lundy>C Brown
D Rhodes>>whoever else you got at RB
Sure Fragile Fred is the #1 till he goes down with injuries, and you know he won't be getting any goal line touches. You drafted Fragile Fred Jr in Chris Brown.
Plus Driver has finished in the top 13 three out of the last four years. Whereas Moss has finished 19th and 15th the past two years. Moss has a higher upside, but Driver is more reliable. Plus I don't have to rely on Brooks throwing the ball. Favre may throw for 30 INT's, but he is still a lot better then Brooks.
Broncoman13
09-05-2006, 01:42 PM
Relying on McGahee to be your #1? I stopped reading there.
Brown>>McGahee or Portis (Yet McGahee on a piss poor team avg more yards per game and more TD's!!! Don't even get me started on Portis! 1700 tot yds and 11 TD's... and you think Brown is twice as good? :spit:
L Jordan>McGahee
C Taylor>F Taylor (Yes, Taylor and his 2.3 ypc in the pre season is going to surpass Fragile Freddy. You've got to be kidding me! Be honest, you guys don't have a substance abuse policy do you?)
Lundy>C Brown (A rookie that will not start more than one game? Seriously, your arguement would have more merit if you used Rhodes here.)
D Rhodes>>whoever else you got at RB (Like I said during the draft, if LT goes down I'll run away with the league. Not to mention Michael Turner will run for 400 and 5 TD's with a healthy LT in front of him. I think Rhodes will run for some good yardage, but you have to wonder if Addai will replace him sooner rather than later!)
Sure Fragile Fred is the #1 till he goes down with injuries, and you know he won't be getting any goal line touches. You drafted Fragile Fred Jr in Chris Brown. Yet Taylor has started and played in 57 of 64 games in the last 4 years. Chris Brown has 15 and 11 in the past two years. We're talking about 3rd and 4th RB's though. If they were solid 16 game guys they would be 1st and 2nd round picks!
You take your 1200 yards and 5 TD's from Driver. I'll take the 1200 yards and 14 TD's from Moss! You're actually comparing Moss to Driver. You're sick I tell you... SICK! If you want to compare a Moss to Driver compare Santana Moss or Jessica Moss, or even Peat Moss but don't make yourself sound like a fool by comparing Randy Moss!!!
You give a whole new meaning to "My players are worth more than yours" ;D

Rascal, I have a great bench score true, but when you look at it realistically, I only missed out on 11 pts because of the switch between Terry Glenn and Coles (I would have never sat Chambers or S. Moss) so realistically, its no biggie.
Slappy and I are scheduled to go the full 15 rounds in our bout. I still have Moss, and Jordan tomorrow & he still has L.T. and Longwell and a 11 pt deficit to make up. Its gonna be a tight finish for sure! My big mistake was not picking a kicker backup this week. D'oh!

I know... when I drafted him, it was just, well... I probably won't be depending on my kicker anyway and he's one of the better ones. Who'd have thought he'd put up 18 points in the first week? In a very real way, one has to credit the Broncos' defense for those points, though.... by making them have to settle for the FGs.

Yup. I cant say I've been impressed with Sportsline in the past 3 years. Their interface is easy to navigate, but they have ZERO support service. Yesterday, I couldnt even log in to see the scores until the evening game started. Plus, I checked their message boards and they were more concerned deleting and editing threads complaining about their suck ass service. All I know is that MFL's service was pretty good yesterday (thank god)

With Tiki on bye I will probably lose this week, and I'm confident I will lose for sure in week 9 and possibly week 8.

My roster's illegal because I de-activated the Broncos' defense just before 10 am today as an indication that I had not forgotten or failed to make an attempt to adjust my roster... during the week, I had picked up the Cowboys' defense strictly for the purpose of filling in during the Broncos' bye, and they're the only other defense on my roster. So, without further ado, the players I wanted to bench are: Drew Bledsoe, Ahman Green, Deion Branch, and the Cowboys D; activating Tom Brady, Joey Galloway, Hines Ward, and the Broncos D.
So...if the software malfunctions, my lineup should be:
QB: Tom Brady
RB: Steven Jackson
RB: Julius Jones
WR: Hines Ward
WR: Joey Galloway
WR: Joe Horn
TE: Kellen Winslow
K: Jeff Wilkins
D: Broncos

More bull**** from cbssportsline. We're supposed to have up to 5 minutes before kickoff to set our lineup, but 15 minutes before kickoff, they had some games already being started (don't ask me why) so I couldn't put Matt Stover in my lineup. :nono:

There it goes again. The Broncos/Steelers game isn't scheduled to kick off until 2:15, but the CBS has the game active and in progress at 2:00.
That's something they need to fix.

I think it's the whole CBS organization. Those ****ers decided to keep the damn Miami/Chicago game on until 2:30 here! I missed the first 14 pts scored. I haven't seen them do that for a long time. They always say, "Due to contractual obligations, we are now moving to the scheduled game. " But of course not today!
I went to flip to my trusty Denver networks and holy ****.. they were gone! Turns out some bill or something took away that ability for satellite companies to sell networks that aren't local. Don't those jackasses in Congress or wherever this is have better things to do than take my damn networks that I gladly pay extra for? :cuss: Good Lord, there are criminals running around and they decide they better take away network stations.

Hey Pez,
I just found out that there was a scorign correction in the Eagles game and McNabb should have thrown two TD's. He threw a pass to Reggie Brown, it bounced off him and was caught by Buckhalter who ran it in. Initially it was considered a fumble, but later to a catch and pass.
It doesn't matter in this league, but it might matter in the NPN league.

The division races are coming down the stretch.
Rascal's Uncle Touchers are holding a one game lead over Gonshor's Ointment and Slap's Yah Mule's in the Bronco's division. Rascal & Gonshor go head to head next week and then Rascal & Slap will square off in the regular season finale. This one's going to the wire.
Mt's Hockey Whores have jumped a game ahead of Shack's Attack. The two of them meet in a deathmatch next week with the Avalanche division on the line. That's must see TV.
The Angry Mob has taken a two game lead over Paco's Parrotheads with two games to go in the Buffs division. These two squads are set to do battle on the final week of the season in a game that may or may not be for all the marbles (I have no idea what the tiebreakers are).
Stay tuned!! :)

Damn kicker gives me zero freaking points or else I would have high score again.
Shacky got lucky.

I need that break so Colston and K Jones can get healthy for the playoffs.

We need to make a rule that you can start four RB's if you want. With DeAngelo starting now I'm not sure who to start between Tiki, Westbrook, K Jones, and DeAngelo. I'll probably pick the wrong one at some point and it will cost me a game in the playoffs.
Like last year I was high scorer, I'm guessing I'll have another second round exit.
