Plummer Calls in the Troops

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- While Jake Plummer appreciates the linemen who protect him from opposing defenses, the Broncos’ quarterback took time to honor those whose duty it is to protect and serve our country.
The Jake Plummer Foundation continued its support for troops by hosting a visit at training camp from the airmen of the 21st and 50th Space Wings stationed at Peterson Air Force Base and Schriever Air Force Base, Colo. Plummer posed for pictures, signed autographs and visited with the young men and women who preserve our country’s freedom.
“We have been doing some fun stuff with them, going down to visit them in Colorado Springs and doing some fun stuff,” Plummer said. “We just wanted to bring them back up here to show them our appreciation for what they are doing. It is tough on their families, it is tough on them and we all want this thing to end.”
Plummer wasn’t the only one who appreciated the presence of the cadets at Day 8 of training camp as the airmen received a round of applause from the fans in attendance.
“Everybody with the group was really appreciative – everybody's saying, 'I can't believe that's for us,'” Master Sergeant Donald Russell, United States Air Force, said. “Everywhere we go, we walk through airports in uniform and people stand up and give us seats. They applaud us like they did today. It's a great honor for us to be out there for you guys, keeping you guys safe.”
For the airmen, the day was extra special, considering many of them have served in the Middle East and some have plans to head back for another tour of duty.
“We were invited up here by Jake Plummer himself,” Russell noted. “A lot of us don't get to see this up close, so it's a great honor to be invited by Jake himself.”
Last offseason, Plummer, along with quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt and wide receiver Charlie Adams, went down to Colorado Springs to spend time with the airmen. This year the trip up to Dove Valley provided an opportunity for all the players to offer their thanks and appreciation.
“When they are out here working hard, it gives them a break to come up and see us” Plummer said. “We are working hard, although it is a little different, but it gives them a chance to come up and have some fun. The guys always like to shake their hand and say their part, whatever it is, for what they do for us.”
Established in 1999 by Plummer, the Foundation’s mission is to provide opportunities for at-risk children and families as well as raise funds to support programs and services designed for early stage Alzheimer’s patients, their family members and caregivers.
