I was happy to meet with Breck Bronc today. We spent a good deal of time talking to this guy from Germany with this huge camera taking pictures of all the players. Fred was being an ass to us. Today he was a real dick. I told him I was going to take a picture of him and he said he wasn't going to smile because you can't smile in the crowd control business. Whatever..what a tool. He also kept warning us not to take pictures between the 20s.

Notes from an otherwise boring special teams practice:

- Apparently, Leach doesn't like Stephen Alexander. He offered David Terrell 100 bucks if he would knock Alexander down on the kickoff practices. He didnt seem like he was kidding either.

- They worked on onside kicks and techniques. Miree was yelled at by the coach for not going up and attacking the ball when recieving the onside kick. Watts did a good job of that as did Clark. When Hamza tried to jump and get it, he was criticized for keeping his hands low and trying to body catch the onside kick.

- Hollowell is apparently ok after yesterday's injury. The coaches were calling for him to go out there. They also worked on punt protection. The coach yelled at DJ telling him to scream out the protection call louder.

- The funniest part of practice was on fake punts. They had a fake where Dayne took it and actually pitched it to Ernster on an option play. Breck was kinda pissed because he wanted to take a picture of that but they didnt do it again.

- Fox and Terrell did a good job of getting down there to attack the returner.

- Knorr did a decent job on hang time and distance today. I didnt pay attention to Ernster much.

He actually wasnt that bad before today and when I came out here I expected him to be alot worse, so maybe its just that it is his job to be a dick. He isn't retarded or anything though.

He is competing with Ernster to replace Sauerbrun for the first four games.

That's cool. Did you know our return game is completely different this year? New scheme, etc. Whoever kicks the ball in week two won't know what hit them. I'm looking forward to it.

Did you get this from that ultra-objective Chefs camp report or is it just more of your own bull**** bravado?

Definitely.

In the morning, Fred was kind of flirting with two ladies that were near the press area and trying to talk to one of the players, I forgot who it was. I think Fred said something like "even though you are pretty ladies you still have to follow the rules" or something.

Bob would have ignored the two ladies and undressed the player with his eyes.

Hey SoCal, who's looking best in punt returns lately, and what would the depth chart there be?

It came straight from Dante Hall's mouth.

Ooooooh, scary. ::)

I remember a couple of years ago (you remember, when Gunther was supposed to fix everything) when Eric Hicks, on the sideline during a preseason game, told a reporter that there was no way the Chefs defense was going to finish 29th in the coming year. He was right, they finished 31st. Last year during training camp ESPN aired a piece in which Tony Gonzales said that last years team was the best he'd ever been a part of. We all saw how that turned out.

The point here (because I'm sure you'll miss it if it isn't spelled out for you) is that people say a lot of things during training camp. Everyone's got a clean slate. Everyone's fresh and energetic. Everyone's hopes are high. So unless your an ignorant fuqtard (prove me wrong, Bob), you shouldn't believe everything you hear in training camp. Hell, the 49ers players are probably yapping about how they're going to surprise people right now, when the only surprise I see forthcoming from them will be if they manage to win 3 games this season.

Hey SoCal, who's looking best in punt returns lately, and what would the depth chart there be?

It is hard to tell. When they do the return stuff, there isnt tackling so you can never tell whether a guy would have broken the tackle or not. I think it will really start to be determined in the actual preseason games.

Bob is very useful for this site. He's like a perpetual pinata. We've been hitting it with some Louisville Slugger's for years as hard as we can and its always still there for some more beatings. It's like Slappy said in his 10 worst posters thread, Bob seems to crave abuse.

Its quite amusing and adds to the enjoyment of this site.

Bob is a total pu$$y. I hit the pinata one too many times and he put me on ignore because I was "100% negative" about the Chiefs...talk about an asshat.

This is actually a huge statement. If David Terrell is playing on Special teams than I think he has a huge chance to make the roster. Especially if he has been steady in offensive drills.

I hear the spin your punter puts on the ball is going to cause all kinds of fumbles this year.

He could very well be what gets you over your 37 year Super Bowl hump.

That's a good possibility, especially considering that's EXACTLY what happened last year.

Dude, when our punter isn't serving a drug suspension, he could put your punter in traction.

Micah Knorr is good for a dependable 25-yard net average - like money in the bank.

My GOD you're a f***ing tool. Think about it. You're bragging about your special teams in the preseason. Meanwhile, your franchise left tackle is probably retiring, Law is looking average to below average in camp, and the Vikings are dominating you in scrimmages. And you're talking about special teams?

Does it hurt to be that much of an idiot, or have you just learned to live with it?

JCMElway

Dante Hall hasn't been great the last two years. Teams were adjusting to our return scheme.

Now it has changed. No one's going to be prepared. It's going to catch them by surprise.

Are you saying otherwise? If so, why?

JCMElway
08-05-2006, 12:02 AM
I find it hard to believe that any team could revolutionize their return game with a twist. Solid special teams play comes down to solid execution, concentration, discipline, and focus.

Introducing some little gimick is not impressive in the least. If you can get everyone working on the same page and executing consistently, now that's impressive. No one in the league can say they're doing that yet.

Oh, and the Chiefs ST have definetly slowed down since the refs stopped letting the Chiefs have at least one free block in the back per punt return.
