Does anyone remember the 1956 Suez War, when Israel invaded Sinai, which was then part of Egypt? This was part of an attempt by Israel, Britain and France, to overthrow Nasser's government and reimpose colonial rule on Egypt.

But US pres Dwight Eisenhower didn’t fool around. He ordered Israel, France and Britain to cease their invasion, forthwith, and to immediately withdraw their troops. Of course they did. The Israelis had to leave.

The US was at the height of its power and influence after WW II.

My my how things have changed. Can you imagine Bush ordering the Israelis to withdraw, today? Impossible. Today the tail wags the dog. Israel gives orders to the US.

The other day Condoleeza Rice thought she had a cease fire -- but no sooner did she leave for Washington than PM Olmert countermanded her and began bombing Lebanon again!!!!

What a pathetic weak creature Rice is.

How far the US has fallen since 1956. It makes the head spin. After WW II we had a historic chance to exert a positive influence on the region and the world. But we took the path of priviledge and empire instead -- and the rest, as they say, is history.

Bush and Rice don’t have a clue what’s happening in Lebanon. Their cease fire plan, if you can call it that, is a flight of fancy -- and has zero chance to succeed, because it fails to recognize that Hezbollah is rooted in the Shiite population. The only way Israel can defeat it is to kill everyone, or depopulate all of south Lebanon. Which they may try to do -- the way they ethnically cleansed most of Palestine in 1948 and 1967, when they drove 700,000 Palestinians out, and bulldozed 400-500 villages.

The US now is completely impotent to rein in Israel, which is like a rabid attack dog gone berserk. I can understand Mel Gibson’s frustration, though his drunken rampage is not a constructive form of expression. No doubt, there are many Mel Gibsons out there across America, tonight, Americans who are angry and frustrated with this war, with Bush, and with Israel, but who don’t know what to do. We are so far down the road to armageddon...

Which brings me to the rub.

I hate to tell ya, Bronco fans, but if this war spreads to Syria, as it is now theatening to do, it could also easily spread to the Gulf and to Iran. In which case we will probably see nukes used within days or even hours. That would open a real pandoras box. We ain’t seen nothing yet.

You don’t believe me? Check out the following piece.
http://informationclearinghouse.info/article7147.htm

Newt Gingrich (the moron) has already announced WW III.

If the nukes do start falling the NFL will have no choice but to cancel the 2006 Pro season. That will mean no Sunday football. No Jake the Snake versus Cutler. No running game. No Shanahan. No play offs. No superbowl.

And no happy ending.

What, you had to post your screed twice to get all the way up to 56 non-football related posts?

Wow, I just though the Gaffer was a regular, old, run-of-mill, Chicken Little. Now I realize... He's professional grade!

Anyway, the NFL won't cancel the season just for nuclear fallout. We'll be able to buy online, new, official NFL radioactive gear with team logos and everything. It will be cool.

BTW, has anybody else noticed that the Gaffer's initials are the same as Mel Gibson's? Interesting...

I don't think the season will be canceled bc the is the most mainstream event in america today. The superbowl is the last water cooler event in the past decade with dvr, 200+ channels, internet and still people flow to this one show for four to five hours. Even if it is just for commercials. no other event in the good Ole USA draws us together like the superbowl. so no the 2006 is not going to be canceled.
