Good stuff about the state of his knee. Gave me a boost of confidence.

"How they pulled that off, I don't know," said Mike Heimerdinger, the Broncos' de facto offensive coordinator. "I was as shocked as everybody else. We all had a vote and it was unanimous. I was like, 'Heck, yeah.' It was kind of a no-brainer."

Heimerdinger was the Broncos' receivers coach from 1995-99, when he oversaw the development of Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey into one of the NFL's elite pass-catching tandems. McCaffrey caught 101 passes and Smith 100 in 2000, a production level Heimerdinger said he believes Walker and Smith can match.

"You would hope so," Heimerdinger said. "I think you can do that. Because of our run game, we're always going to get pretty good matchups with the wide receivers because people are going to play an eight-man front. That's what you want, one-on-ones. We should be able to get those matchups, so I'm hoping those guys can get those kinds of numbers."

Finally get to hear from Dinger. Didn't know if he was talking to the press.

My fault, I only looked back 2 pages. Didn't realize the article was that old.

I think Walker will be a big help this year BUT he won't get more receptions than Rod. I look for Walkr to get about 60-70 receptions.

"Then there's John Elway, who played 16 NFL seasons without an ACL in his left knee".

Wow, I didn't know that.

You know he was touched by God. Some people say that he is God himself.

I tell ya, I got a confidence boost from that article. If the staff thinks a reachable goal is 100% by game one, that's good enough for me. Darn that Lelie, he needs to be in camp. He's missing a chance of a lifetime this year I think. Smith, Walker, Lelie, that's a good lineup. TE's a question mark, so he's needed.

I like Walker and think he 'll be a great all around Player for us and maybe with Heimer opening up teh O he can get within shouting distance of his 04 stats, but to compare his 04 year with Rod and Lelie last year, as if the difference was all due to Walker's superior skill is ludicrous!

With a totally different run oriented system here and a QB with a choke chain around his neck last year to not make fubars on 3rd down its little wonder we were 27th in the league.

It had more to do with our cautious game planning last year compared to Walker as the #1 WR for Favre in Green Bay's more wide open air attack.

Walker is still a stud, no doubt, but without a major shift in offensive philosophy and unleashing first Jake, and then Cutler down the road, as well as Javon taking over the #1 spot and getting the lion share of the passes, until then I'm not holding my breath for too many 1400 yards season, particularly right off the bat.

If he can simply play at a high level for the role they give him here this year and stay healthy that should be enough for now. But having only one practice a day during camp isnt much time to fully gel with Jake and the new system. Not to mention regaining full confidence in his knee.

As such, the early part of this season is when we will likely be most vulnerable, baring any major injuries later on.

It wouldn't take much at all to be an upgrade over LELIE.
a COUPLE OVER THE MIDDLE CATCHES AND TWO TOUCHDOWNS and we are already ahead of the game from last year !

Yeah. Herm's quote is revealing:

"You would hope so," Heimerdinger said. "I think you can do that. In other words, we have always had good matchups. We just haven't had a WR corps that could exploit that consistently since Eddie Mac and Sharpe left.

Not in this offense as it is currently constructed and one year removed from a blown out knee

I think the O is and has been constructed for a few years now to exploit the passing game more. Shanny has been trying to get the passing game clicking, decided he had to go get some different players. Lelie got po'd, 'cause he got kicked to the curb, basically.

I realize you have to take Javon's knee and the organization's opinion on where he'll be with a grain of salt. But this article was the first real info I've seen on the matter, and it gave me a boost of confidence. There was no mention of the knee having to be drained, or swelling after workouts. If there is no swelling or fluid buildup now he's running and cutting, then I think the knee will be ok.
