Let me be the first to nominate this clown for Moron of the Year before the usual suspects line up for that honor...feel free to fire away on this fool. You can read the particulars including the fact that Bush 41 and wife plus other GOP luminaries attended but this stands out above all else:
Rev. Bill Lawson compared Mr. Lay to civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesus Christ, and said his name would eventually be cleared.
"He was taken out of the world right at the right time," he said. "History has a way of vindicating people who have been wronged."
For those that don't know...Lawson is a prominent black minister in Houston...making his inclusion of Enron dirtbag Kenneth Lay in the same sentence with King, not to mention Christ...even more ludicrous. I'm guessing here, but I doubt the Right Reverend Lawson had any Enron in his 401K...this dude needs to go read the passage in the gospels that says, "by their fruits ye shall know them". What a douche bag...
Scanning for clues on what might have possessed this guy, I found this on the retired Rev. Lawson: http://www.political.com/gossip-arc/0481.html
The Houston Gossips are wondering why candidate Gerald Womack in the District D race used the name of one of the city's most respected civic leaders in his campaign advertising without that person's permission. The person went public with a letter of rebuke.
Rev. Bill Lawson in his letter to Womack said that using his name was "an unfortunate breach of a serious covenant" made between him and Womack whereby Lawson and two other leaders agreed to not endorse any of the three top contenders for District D and instead would give equal money to each but would "refrain from any endorsements in the race". The Gossips know how respected Bill Lawson is and wonder just what impact his letter to Womack will have on the race. This could hardly be another one of those "mistakes by a staff member" could it?
Interesting that Lawson..."one of the city's most respected civic leaders" objected to the improper use of HIS name, but has no qualms about referencing Ken Lay as comparable to Christ...perhaps equally interesting...he gave all three candidates money. The word "bribe" comes to mind here, and I suppose that says something about how corrupt Houston is if this dude is one of their more respected leaders. BAAAHAAAA!
Pass the barf bag please.

Wasn't he convicted and waiting to be sentenced? If he was convicted, that's a pretty good indication that he participated in some wrongdoing. Saying that he will be vindicated is silly, but comparing him to MLK and Christ is absolutely LUDICROUS...

LOL...wonder how the Houston Black Ministers Association likes this guy palling around with the Bush family's crooked buddy and white corporate sleezeball who probably shafted most of their congregations out of money? He's "retired"...leading me to ask if he retired on his own or somebody has photos?

My point was it was a stupid thing to say no matter who he gave money to. He gave a ton of money to the GOP, didn't make it less wrong what he did and it sure as hell didn't make him Christ or MLK like.

But for the Joe Average guy that the Dems are suppose to care about and the Republicans are screwing over, how does cheaper prices hurt.
I think it was Beerslug who posted a thread where a in house memo said that 24% of Wal-Mart employees were on government programs. What he doesn't point out is that in that memo it says that Wal-Mart is only 1% higher than the national averagel.
Sure they sell more of a volume than Mom and Pops stores of things from China, but that is only because they are a bigger buisness.
I have a far bigger problem than big oil, than Wal-Mart. I may be crazy, but that is just me.

Cheaper prices dont hurt , but they dont mean much to a man in the employment line either ......when you buy from over seas, you are not buyingh a product an American made , therefore the American is no longer needed .......

I would bet you can't find a store, with any ease, that doesn't sell something from another country. So the only thing that makes them different from Wal-Mart is that Wally World is bigger and sells more.
But even the smaller stores take away from American made products.

Somehow i have a feeling that this will be a start of the post with the beginning of "Bushco kills british banker linked to Enron case" by the Columbian Free Press.
If you want crap from people eulgizing people that is just to prop them up when they have done wrong, check out Tookie Williams (killed by Cali. in December). He was compared to the same people. Kenneth Lay got out easy. Being someones love grandpa would have been nice since he fu%*ed so many out of thier retirement.

Bankers tied to Enron extradited from U.K.
Move made possible by treaty aimed at terrorists; body of a man alleged to have been questioned in case discovered in London .
July 13 2006: 6:36 AM EDT
CROYDON, England (Reuters) -- Three former bankers surrendered to U.S. marshals at a police station south of London on Thursday for extradition to the United States to face fraud charges relating to collapsed energy company Enron.
David Bermingham, one of the three, who traveled to Croydon police station with his wife Emma, told reporters: "It's a sad day for you guys," he said. "I expect most of you are British so you got let down today by your own government."
Prime Minister Tony Blair has rejected pleas to halt their extradition, while in a new twist to the saga, police investigated the death of a man reported by media to have been a former colleague of the men who was questioned in the case.
