I'm going to tell you people something.
Rod said his hair turned gray. I have seen this happen from personal experiance with my dad, in one day when my mom was critical.
Rod Smith has nothing to prove. You didn't get what he said when he said he's turning gray? That man is unreal. Every cowboy has to ride the white horse sometime, just not yet. I think Rod would be a fine coach if he were to choose to go that way. When Lelie is nursing an injury in NOLA and Ros's name come up in Canton....We WILL MARCH....
He's so well mannered...I'm a big fan of Rod Smith. The dude...I say enough...he had a spat, but he's squeeky clean and has been the rock along with Al Wilson. To me, Rod Smith stands above Elway. Nothing was handed to him. I should mention TD as well.
If Rod doesn't make first ballot I will personally throw tomatoes at Canton.

He won't even sniff the Hall of Fame.
That said, I think you can make a good case for him being the the 3rd or 4th best Bronco, ever.
Once you factor in longevity, production, leadership, etc. Who in team history performed better for longer? Not just tangible performance, but think about Rod's effect on the entire organization from his enthusiasm to his leadership during the season and even the off-season.
Sharpe, Gradishar, Atwater... who else?
Depending on what he does the next couple of years, a decent argument could be made that he was the 2nd best Bronco, ever.

Won't happen. He deserves to be but The Hall is not kind to letting Broncos in. Bastards.

They have Steelers and Cowboys in there like ticks. He went to the pro bowl...AND PLAYED.

If Rod can put together 2-3 solid years, he will have a chance at the Hall. I know he is getting old, but Rod is a different cat, he is going to play as long as he can and will be crafty enough to produce even after losing a step or two.
Right now he stands at: 797-10877-65 TDs
If he could put together 3 seasons like this:
2006: 80-1100-8 TDs
2007: 70-1000-6 TDs
2008: 55-800-5 TDs
He would then be at: 1002 catches for 13777 yards and 84 TDs.
If he can reach 1000 catches and get over 13000 yards, he should make it given the fact he was undrafted, a true leader, has won a few Super Bowls, and has some great stats. They talked about Michael Irvin for the HOF last year and his stats (750-11904-65) are similar to Rod's right now, and Rod has some left in the tank.

That's cool. We all know he is more than deserving, it's just that the Hall of Fame dosn't vote Bronco. But Rod deserves to be in. He has it all. The rings, the stats, the heart, the leadership, the respect from players from all over the league. That's hall of fame material. He should be able to get in.

Well, we came fairly close last year.
That's basically what I'm saying. If he has a couple more productive seasons, and particularly if we were able to win a SB with him part of that production... how is he not a viable candidate for the 2nd best Bronco, ever?
-Two SB Rings
-Entire 12 year career (and counting) as a Bronco
-8 1000 yard seasons
-Undisputed team leader
-60+ TDs
-3 Pro Bowls
-Easily the best wideout in Bronco history
-10K+ career yards (only undrafted WR in history)
-#1 all-time yards from scrimmage as a Bronco
Like I said, when you start factoring in everything... he's got to be near the top of our list.

i think the lack of pro bowl years will actually hurt him, sadly enough. but i also believe that if he gets that SB win, that means he gets his image beat into all the writers heads which hopefully they will remember. its also impressive to be a contributor to SB teams with that long of time in between, IMO, it shows leadership on his part since he is only one of what, 4 or 5, left from that team. could be wrong on that and thinking of something else but thats my 2 cents

SSJunkie, I am of agreement, if he gets 1,000 catches and another Super Bowl ring, it will be hard for the HOF to ignore him, even as much as they will try. Thanks for the stats, I wasn't aware he was so close to 800 catches and 11K yards.
I can't do from here in Texas, but one of you Denver guys that goes to the games all the times needs to construct a "Countdown to 800" sign that has removable/changeable numbers. After 800 is achieved, change 800 to 900, then later on change to 1,000. The TV networks love visuals like that, and it would put the league on notice that a milestone of sorts is being achieved. The extra publicity in the long run would help his stance with the HOF. Just a thought. Shouldn't be hard to make.

I agree with you. If John had never made the HOF i wouldnt have given a ****. He is still the best player to ever have played the game to me. HOF is just icing on the cake really. If Rod doesnt make it so what, he will still be one of my favorite Bronco players ever.

The Ring Of Fame is far more important to me than the Hall Of Fame anyways....I wrote Canton off years ago for it's obivous biases. I won't go there again until Floyd Little gets inducted...which is to say, I'm not going ever again. I lose no sleep over it at all.

One of the knocks against Rod making it in is that he's never been what you'd call a dominant player. He's been highly productive, and extremely efficient, but the HOF tends to induct two kinds of players...
1. Dominant
2. High Profile
Rod really isn't either. Now, don't mistake what I'm saying... because I'm also making an argument that he's one of our greatest players, ever.
But, he didn't take over games the way Rice did, for example.
Of course, opposing defensive coaches know he has to be accounted for on every play, but it still wasn't the kind of unstoppable production that we've seen from even a guy like Terrell Owens. (In short bursts.)
The SBs will help his cause, but not enough.
Of course, if he was a New York Jet, he be preparing his induction speech, already.
Again, I don't give a ****. He's EXACTLY the type of player I love to have on our team, and really exemplifies what it is when I think of the Broncos.

Make up your mind. Art Monk hasn't gotten in which allready makes the HOF a travesty when they have about a dozen Cowboys in a circle jerk.

Funny how Cowboy fans will talk how there is a bias against Cowboys. How can a team that has 6 Super Bowl appearances only have 1 HOF player?
I think Rod won't get in because one of the big things the HOF voters have is being dominant, ie being All Pro and going to Pro Bowls, which is why Art Monk hasn't been voted in becuase he has like 1-2 All Pros and 1-3 Pro Bowls.
Personally, I feel Rod should get in becuase of what he has been through and accomplished. Undrafted, 10,000+ yards, more than likely 800+ receptions, 60+ touchdowns, 2 Super Bowls, Pro Bowls, he has been amazing for the Broncos.

I think the HOF group should factor in more then just stats and rings. Here is a guy that went undrafted and has done what he has done. Even with all the rings stats he approaches the game with work ethic without drawing attention to himself imo that should be rewarded and admired as a positive spin on how if you work hard dreams can come true even in a small market. It seems if your not a loudmouth or a Manning or in NY or a murderer etc nobody pays any mind to players like Rod. Here is a chance for the nfl to send a real positive message that a player who works hard acts like everyday might be his last in nfl without mouthing off is worthy of more attention. Seems like a good message to send kids doesn't it.

The great part was Dan Reeves got his team out of bed at 5:00 on Super Bowl Sunday morning to have a meeting about a guy getting arrested for a humjob.
This might have distracted Dan from his "boohoo Mike and John didn't like me" sympathy routine, but I have to think it also distracted his team just a little bit.
