I kinda stepped back over the past 20 years. Sometimes I think we will storm Dove Valley like the Bastille.

We have many dissapointments, some dating back to 1977. Butch Johnsons odd catch...Williams non fumble...all the time we were painted as good but not best...

Well we might be the best but have been the most fun to watch over the past 30 years sans the Griese years as any team in the NFL.

In the past 20 years Denver has made the playoffs so many times I can't count. We have had 5 SuperBowls and Two lost NFC Championships. Meanwhile, the eastern media always has discounted us. That's what makes it so sweet. We missed but lost to the better team.

6 months later I'm over the egg we layed in the AFC game. We didn't have Superbowl talent, but almost got there.

I have stated how good the owner, GM, and King Shanahan has done a dine job despite some bad moves. I wouldn't trade the Owner, GM, Head Coach or any of his coaches for any organization in the league.

Last years team reminds me of the '95 team. If we don't get to the Bowl, that doesn't make anyone less of a fan.

We might of lost the battle but we haven't lost the war. We WILL get back.

It's not about practice'.

I always got the impression you jumped on the Broncos bandwagon right after the back-to-back Super Bowls, Mock.

The way you used to talk trash about John Elway and Randy Gradishar (you were finally broken of that habit) and your inability to distinguish Bernard Jackson from Louis Wright pretty much sealed the deal for me.

Guys like BLove, and other true old timers, are able to peg you right away, so bag this 20 year fan crap. If the Broncos took a couple 4-12 seasons, you would be out the door and on another bandwagon.

1976 Denver Broncos

Record: 9 - 5 - 0

Head Coach: John Ralston

Are you mentally challenged?

The Denver Broncos gradually improved through the 1970s and surprised the league in 1977 when they won a franchise record twelve games behind head coach Red Miller. The team captured its first-ever Western Division title with the AFC’s top defense, which was anchored by end Lyle Alzado, linebacker Randy Gradishar, and cornerback Louis Wright. Quarterback Craig Morton piloted a steady offense, and the Broncos advanced to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Dallas Cowboys. Denver made the playoffs the following two seasons but fell in the first round each time. During the 11 years following the strike-shortened season of 1982, Denver made 7 postseason appearances. As a rookie, John Elway led the team to a playoff berth in 1983 and to 13 victories in 1984. In the latter year, wide receiver Steve Watson and running back Sammy Winder each enjoyed 1,000-yard seasons.

It was all about talent. His first go-round in Buffalo, he had a roster full of Pro Bowlers. Those Denver teams were pretty lean from a talent standpoint and, of course, the Half a Loaf game was the final straw. He cleaned the garbage off his porch and shuffled back off to Buffalo, where he had the Juice and the Electric Company and a good QB in Joe Ferguson. Joe wasn't a superstar, but he was Johnny Unitas compared to Tensi and Liske.

I apologize, pre-1977 I don't know alot of Bronco history. Excuse me, I was busy watching Bill Brown and Joe Kapp. It was Ralston, not Saban who had the "Super Drafts" that built the boat Red Miller rode.

However, albeit off topic, I have repeatedly said that I would take Nick Saban if Shanahan were to leave. He's obviously started to turn around that cesspool that Wanny created both in Chicago and Miami. Jimmy Johnson does not mentor, unless your a hairdresser.

I honestly thought it was Saban that made those drafts so long ago that it's in the cobwebs. I only moved to Denver in 77. It was all about our LB's and some coach that looks like Slappy. J/K...and some guy named Alzado who went on to fight Ali and go to the dark side. I do remember that.

im with ya buddy, but we need to correct a few things!!

for one, its AFC championships, not NFC.

also, i do NOT agree that we lost to the better team. i believe 100% that WE were the better team. we gave them that game on both sides of the ball. we gave benny all day to throw, and he STILL threw four int's. we just dropped all four.
our offense wasnt much better.
anyway, the better team lost that day.

lastly, i think maybe you meant that they reminded you of the ninety SIX team right?
the '95 team was 8-8.

other than that, im with ya all the way.
the broncos are higher up on my priority chart than just about anything besides family and friends.

sure, ill melt down from time to time.
sure, ill have doubts about whether or not i want to watch in person this season since i fear the fans will be ugly. screaming for cutler after any plummer interception or 3 and out.
still, ill NEVER stop bleeding orange and blue.
ill never stop having the outcome of the games dictate my mood that week.

I love this state, this city and above all else, the Denver Broncos! Win or Lose. A lot of us forget the Wade Philips era - understandably - and a lot of people fell off the band wagon then. I called the ticket office during that time and I was added to the waiting list...number 400. Was offered seats that next season. What's the waiting list at now, 20,000+? Unfortunately, it goes to show you just how fickle people can be. Myself, I am dedicated to this team, regardless of where they end up in the win/loss column. A true fan doesn't jump ship when his team experiences some adversity.

I make all kinds of typos.. if.I type fast it's a lost cause...I was trying to snag a new snare latch from Yamaha (I think I destroyed it) and this guy was typing so fast I couldn't believe it. I could hear him like some drum solo. I always screw up if I type really fast. Hell, I almost forgot how to type.

This thread has turned into Mock vs. The Bronco Fans here....very entertaining. :)

For the record I became a fan in the Dan Reeves/Wade Phillips era (born in 1986) so you KNOW I'm not a bandwagoner!

Of course not...that's just the year Denver was supposed to win the SB. Your not a Bandwagoner...your a Klingon.

I dunno, I kinda get the feeling this organization is on the precipice...depending on how they finish they may be due for a real transition and turnover. I've been checking out various nfl message boards. Man, it's rough out there. People are ready to turn at the first pick or loss. It might be just noise, hard to say. Will Cutler start? Will the defense hold up? Those seem to be the hottest topics. And oh yeah, will they have wideouts that can stretch the field?

Summer's not over yet, people. Time to panic. And what would a good offseason BE without panic? :poke:

Actual fans aren't ready to turn, that's insane. The only people I could imagine turning on the team are the glut of bandwagoners that have been built up since the Superbowls. Denver has been a good team for fairweathers, since they rarely have losing seasons.

Where I'm from, you're usually either a Vikings or a Packers fan. We had some family from around Denver, so I kind of looked up to a cousin or two and had liked the Broncos since I was about 10 or 11, but watched them previously. My sister is a huge Packers fan and I kind of liked them too, so naturally -- in 98 I was torn who to root for. I've been watching since, I guess I kind of followed them more extensively after Super Bowl wins, but well. . . a lot of kids do that and it's not my fault I was born when I was.

Still love the Broncos and always will. Even though they piss me off and cost me money on occasion.

Maybe we can send it.
count me in. The Broncos could be as bad as the niners or lions, and I'll still be here going for them. But we all know that we will never have a team like that as long as shanahan and Bowlen are around. With that said, We have the team and talant to win it all. We have a very competitive team who each year has a goal of winning it all. Around here Championships are the standard and not just being satified with just being on the playoffs. Fans kwow that, players know that, coaches know that, everyone knows that. Right now, it's great to be a Bronco fan. This is our year!

I am astonished!!! You pups are mostly young!!!!

I was following the Broncos before they got Little. I remember Frank Filchock and Mac Speedie and the old Bears' stadium before the people bought it, and I remember the Phipps Brothers (they were not unwealthy but not in the same class as Bowlin, and they were rather penny pinchers).

Jeez; when they went to the Bowl in '77, Miller took over the team from Ralston (he was of the Dale Carnegie School of motivation), but Collier had the sense to use his people in a 3-4: Rizzo, Swenson, Gradishar and Jackson. I think they were the toughest group of LBs around at the time. Kaiser bought the team and Reeves became the coach.

Then JE. Man, I cannot tell you how excited I was when JE came in a trade. I remember listening to a sports radio show with Bob Martin (the best radio play by play guy I ever heard with Larry Zimmer as second), and some dweeb from Oakland called and said that Denver had no right to trade for Elway because Al had two number ones and was trying to get a third one to send to Baltimore for Elway, and Elway was from California, by gawd!!!! Cracked me up and I mentally sent a million one fingered salutes to Oakland that day.

With the SBs that followed, I felt increasingly frustrated. Then came the Packers and JE and TD were tops. The D was great (Atwater had a great hit that game, didn't he?). I did not have tears going, but I had feelings of immense relief and pride.

Being a Broncos fan is real easy. Always will be.

What ever happened to the great announcers? Now we have Joe Heisman yapping with Al Michaels. Maguire was always funny but I think he got axed too. It was always funny to listen to Maguire hammer Little Joe's "analysis" after a few cocktails.

I loved Enberg and Olsen.... Bob Martin was an amazing talent. I just wish he got to annouce us winning a SB before passing on... Bob Martin and Larry Zimmer were the best radio football team I've ever heard. Zimmer and Logan were pretty good.... Relative to these two great announcing teams the current teams are hard to listen to KOA although the TV talent is worse.

True for me. Waited only a few months and had my tickets in 95. DOnt bag the Wade years totally. He got Elway the exposure he needed to become the great QB he deserved. BTW: This thread , once again, goes off on another direction. Pretty geekie, lame. Cheerleading through the MANE. Maybe the local news will do a piece on "fans that stay fans through thick and thin". LAAAAMMMMMMOOOOOO! Nothing like a feel good story when the Broncos are one win from the SuperBowl. Yes, broncos really need to know where there fans stand right now. In fact many will be right out the box office looking for tickets for this season. Go get em Mock.

First, because our drafts have sucked and I am sick of it. What part of that don't you understand.

Well honestly, Bennett, Smith or Mo Williams along with M. Moore are all equal to any of Denvers backs. Kleinsausser is better than any of the Denver TE's, and they got Winfield without losing their only franchise back?

Pro Bowlers? Want to trade Cullpepper for Jake Plummer? Randy Moss for Rod Smith? Putz for Klensauser?

Minnesota also has Mixon and some beast I have seen on tape, Kevin Williams I think, they have three fast LB's and Winfield.

Honestly, I don't know what your problem is. Minnesota has a bunch of impact players at QB, RB, WR, (koren robinson) TE is better, Moss of course, Bennett, O Smith, Mo Williams and Moore....They have a solid OL and the #1 offense in the NFL. And your talking shiat.

On defense, they are totally revanmped. While we are talking about "the predator" he was thrown out with the trash with 3 high round draft choices.

Also, they have Brian Williams and Winfield at the corners.

The offensive line is totally intact.

I allready told you about the talent all around the Vikings team.

Listen one more time.

RB 4 deep. Bennett, Smith, Moore, Williams

QB. Cullpepper, Gus good enough..Gus has looked fantastic, better than Plummer.

WR. K Robinson and Randy Moss. Got it yet?

I don't even follow the OL much but they say the entire line is returning.

Go to the defense.

Kevin Williams is a beast. Mixon is out for drugs for awhile, they have Hovan and a bunch of kids there.

LB. They have a buncy of high choices there as well. They have two first rounders there.

CB. They signed Winfield and have some good help at safety.

Overall, this is a contender.

It was last year, but this years defense will be better.

You know, I have to watch the Vikings, and I have watched them for 30 years, as I have the Broncos. Don't play this game.

I could go thru what I think of the chargers.

Don't be indignant.
