Hey all, it's been a while since I've posted but I thought I'd break this to you first. I'm currently working on a season preview of the Broncos, along with several other reports for my columns with the magazine I writer for. Just wanted to get your thoughts and opinions on the piece before I send it off to my boss for approval. Comments and constructive criticism are appreciated. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy. (Note: I haven't spell checked or anything, this is just a rough draft, I'll finish up editing later, etc.)
Denver Broncos Season Preview
Broncos Poised For Super Bowl Run
The Denver Broncos enter the 2006 NFL Season with perhaps one of the deepest rosters in recent memory thanks in part to several past years of successful drafting and off-season acquisitions.
Where the Broncos did lose several key starters in Mike Anderson, Trevor Pryce and Jeb Putzier, the team was able to make improvements by adding veteran players such as Javon Walker, Nate Webster and Kenard Lang, along with re-signing high profile defensive tackle Gerard Warren to a long-term contract.
The Broncos bolstered their offense with a succesful draft focusing mostly on the offensive side of the ball, bringing in Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler, Western Michigan TE Tony Scheffler and UCF WR Brandon Marshall. Where it is unlikely Cutler will start any time soon, the additions of Scheffler and Marshall could make an immediate impact in the passing game, where the Broncos could show improvement. The Broncos also drafted high profile offensive lineman Greg Eslinger from the University of Minnesota, who couldn't be in a better situation as he fits the mold of a prototypical Broncos lineman.
Denver coaches are confident in the running attack of Tatum Bell, Ron Dayne and Cedric Cobbs. Ron Dayne is currently running with the first team offense in camp, and Bell must show more consistency and prove healthy if he wants to win the starting position. But don't sleep on Cobbs, as Broncos coaches are more than impressed with his work ethic and play during off-season workouts.
The receiving corp looks stronger than ever, but fans and coaches are wondering if Javon Walker will be ready by the start of the season and if disgruntled wideout Ashley Lelie will shut up and show up.
The Broncos defense looks better than ever, and it's expected that second-year corners Darrent Williams and Domonique Foxworth will battle it out in camp for the starting spot aside Champ Bailey. Along with a strong set of cornerbacks, the Broncos starting safeties Nick Ferguson and John Lynch are coming off succesful years, but must show better ball recognition and coverage skills.
Linebackers Al Wilson, Ian Gold and DJ Williams are among the leagues best, and the Broncos have good depth with players such as Nate Webster, Keith Burns and Patrick Chukwurrah. A player to look out for is rookie free agent Cameron Vaughn, who has seen time at all three linebacker spots over the course of the Broncos summer camps. Broncos DC Larry Coyer has also stated that DJ Williams is learning to spell Pro-Bowl linebacker Al Wilson at MLB to give Wilson more breaks during playing time to keep him fresh and healthy.
The Broncos added veteran Kenard Lang from the Cleveland Browns to bolster their pass-rush along with the selection of Louisville defensive end Elvis Dumervil, who has the ability to play along any position on the defensive line, and has been getting repetitions at each spot during team camps. Coaches are also high on prospect Corey Jackson, who has the size and athleticism to be a major contributor on the defensive line.
Where it is too early to predict what success the Broncos will have this year, there is no doubt that anything short of a Super Bowl victory will be a disappointment in the minds of Denver coaches, players and fans. As always, one question always looms when speaking of the Broncos and their chances of victory: Which Jake will show up? Good Jake or Bad Jake.

The Broncos defense looks better than ever
If that's the case, then this franchise has had ****ty D-Line's since the team's inception.

No, I'm currently a columnist for an online football magazine. It's based out of the Tampa area, and we currently have several corporate sponsers. I was targeted after this past draft, and the site received over a million hits over the draft weekend, which to me is impressive. I'm just doing this for fun, and I enjoy it. I'm going to cover the Vikings and the Broncos and when the draft rolls around, I'll be doing some coverage.
We're working on getting access to NFL games, (Press Box) and my Boss and his wife are already going to the NFL Draft next year, so he'll be doing live coverage and we'll have live pictures, and hopefully footage from there. I too, hope I'll be able to go, but with school and my dedication to my school (my RA position) it's unlikely I'll be able to go out to New York. Hopefully though. :)

I don't know if I'd say the WR corps looks "stronger than ever." The Broncos have been thin at WR for a long time. I'd simply say that the Broncos are cautiously optimistic about their current group of WR's and that if Walker lives up to his potential, it could overshadow the loss of Lelie... or something along those lines.

Sure man, it's www.gridironcentralmag.com -- It's up and coming, but I was impressed with their ability to get interviews with top college recruits, and hopefully after working there and by the time the draft rolls around, I'll be able to get some interviews as well and break some news to you guys before it gets out on the site.
There's talk about us putting out a real magazine in print, but the cost is very expensive and it seems that print media is getting blown away by online media anyways.
Thanks for the comments.

Instead of 'POISED' I would personally put 'PISSED!' due to the extenuating circumstances - residual from the previous year.

Dude, you need to get him to allow you to come to the Combine in INDY. You will get first hand access to over three hundred players, agents, Front office personnel, all the Coaches, and many Owners as well. I usually work the combine and I am working on getting a better gig than administering the Wonderlic that I have done for the last three years. After last years pathetic Vince Young ordeal that made me miss live workouts for the whole defensive side, I need to get better access.
I live here as well and know where everything goes down including where the agents wheel and deal. It would really be worth your time and the companies as well.
That being said, check my analysis of Lynch's coverage last year in the Prisco thread it is pretty revealing and is a good way to make a point that every other Journalist has missed. Ferguson, OTOH, had a bunch of communication problems with zone last year that have been addressed. DJ will spell Wilson in the nickle package more than in the 4-3. The DL is still pathetically talented in the Pass rush Department with no established speed rusher on the RDE.
I am sure I will think of a few more things.

That'd be pretty kickass, and if possible -- I'd try it for sure. I'm just wondering how hard it would be for me to get that kind of access.
I'm only allowed to have two weekends off at school, (I'm a Resident Arshole. . . I mean assistant.) so it'd probably be tough. I don't want to lose that job, because it's saving me like 6k a year, which is nice. My boss had already stated that it's more than likely that press box access to games in Denver would be possible, and if it came true, he'd be willing to send me to the home games in Denver. That'd kick ass, but with my RA schedule, I'm sure that's unlikely. In the first place, I'm not supposed to have any other job -- but since this is really done in my free time -- I don't see it as a problem.
I do believe my article is a little optimistic, and I'm aware of what you did say. I just didn't want to make it too lengthy though.
Thanks for the info though.

I would add some stuff about Terrell and Watts in WR section. Like Ashly holdout gives the veteran WR an opportunity to gain much need playing time. But it not bad.

Youcandoit, I stumbled into the job by chance. My boss now had read some articles of mine on forums I've posted and really enjoyed my style. I can't wait until I get the final draft finished and this goes up on the site. I'll also be doing one for the Vikings as well, possibly the Packers too.
Elsid, that's a good suggestion, thanks.

Well written Requiem, its a really good synopsis as things stand pre-camp and the kind of info a non-bronco fan might want to know.
