USC and TEXAS will be in Rose Bowl again in 2009. These two schools have consumed all HS top 100 scouts. USC has agreements from 5 of the top 32 players in the country! Texas has 8 of the top 100 recruits... This is incredible considering recruiting regulations!

So put yourself in the place of these young whipper snappers and tell me which school would you choose....TEXAS OR USC? This is ridiculous...I can't wait for Texas to fall flat on their face again having a great year until they face some mid-range conference foe and lose their whole season - :wiggle: and then USC to go undefeated and lose in the Rose Bowl again ^5

Obvioiusly, Texas is the place to be. As far as falling on thier faces I think you will find out pretty early this year what Texas will be made of seeing how in week 2 they play Ohio State.

Recruiting rankings are not all they are cracked up to be. I'd take a 3 star Florida kid over a 5 star NY kid. And its not even close. To me, the rankings arent as important as location. If the kid played his ball in Florida (preferably South Florida), New Jersey, Western PA, Texas, Louisiana or Southern California, there is a better chance that he'll end up being a good college player than perhaps an even rated or higher rated prospect from a different area.

Almost all of Texas' signings are in-state players. They could go outside of the state more if they wanted to but they seem to be happy with the in-state talent that's available. Plus, any really good Texas player that the Longhorns don't recruit will likely become a Sooner or an Aggie with a chip on his shoulder.
And SoCal is right that you can hardly judge a thing by recruiting rankings. I can't tell you how many blue chippers I've seen come to Austin and didn't pan out or were really no more than average. It's a bigger crapshoot than the NFL draft (and we all know how unpredictable that is).

Texas is always stacked, play in the Big 12, and have a great NFL platform. Football players are treated like royalty all across the state and especially in Austin. Austin is beautiful, UT has a great campus and student life, and the ocean is fairly close. There are tons of things to do for athletes in the area.
If Im trying to play pro football, I choose Texas 10 out of 10 times. In Texas, football is king. Pro prosepects are like pennies here. You can find them on the street anywhere.
As far as who's going to be better, I think that you have to think that Texas will be the better team, but will probably have a worse record because they play in the Big 12. I think that OU wins the Big 12 this year. USC has a free ride through the uberweak Pac 10 every season, so they should have a nice record.

Both look set for the next few years, but I would be surprised if they don't both stumble a couple of times this season. New QB's will take some time, though both will have plenty of talent around them. Plus both have to play Nebraska :wiggle:

It depends where in LA. If you had to live where USC is then Def Austin. USC is in a really bad part of town but the Hills and beach aren't that far away. Austin is a cool city but much less relevant in the eyes of the world and has less to do.

Not if you include Galveston, Mustang Island, San Antonio, San Marcos, and the great state parks in the area. If you are an athlete, there is TONS of stuff to do around Austin. Those guys are given the royal treatment.

LA doesn't have bad traffic, wow who knew. As far as the traffic problems go here in Austin, it is way overstated. I have lived in LA and now live in Austin and its not even close as far as traffic goes. I can get anywhere in town in less that 30 min durring rush hour. Not to mention they will be opening up a new toll road in septemeber that will hopefully get alot of the trucks off 35 and relieve some of the traffic.
I think the people who live here complain about the traffic but haven't lived in cities like LA that have real traffic problems.

It depends on the person and the way you live your life. You can't ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon in Austin like LA.
If I was a real bas a$$ I would pick LA because it has a bigger media market. Linart and Bush definitely received more media attention then Young over the length of there collage careers. They could make more from endorsements initially and had the oppertunity to show case there ability to basically everyone.
As for being treated like royalty I think each and every one of us would be more then happy with the treatment that players gets from any of top 20 schools and there communities.

The media market is huge, but ultimately the scouting gets the job done and scouts know that Texas usually has great prospects across the board. Not only Texas, but also the other big time Big 12 programs. I would like to know for certain, but Im pretty sure that Texas is usually top 5 in regards to total players drafted and draft position.
Just look at Leinart and Bush. Bush was christened the NFL's LeBron James by the media and was chosen after an NCState defensive lineman. Leinart was considered this grande personality and the best QB in the draft, but when scouts got a look at Young, they chose the Texas kid with the great ability. Substance over shine.
If you want to play in the NFL, Texas seems like the better fit.
If you want to try and fit in with the Hollywood crowd, you probably would choose USC.

I will be there. It is interesting there are some here in Austin who are upset that the game starts at 7:30pm. I guess there was some talk about a Noon kickoff to expose Ohio State to some Texas heat. I was at a game with a noon kickoff last year and in the bleachers it was 115 degrees.

I lived in LA for 5 years while I was in Collage. I had a blast and would not trade that time for anything. Now, 5 years out I would not move back. In Texas I can buy a house, save some money and plan for the future. In LA it is all for the moment unless you have a really really good job. At that age it was where I wanted to be. Now, no way.

A month ago, the Miami Dolphins unveiled their new scoreboard, hailed as the largest high-definition video screen in the world. By July, when the Texas Longhorns' new scoreboard is expected to be in place at Royal-Memorial Stadium, the Dolphins will have to be content with having the world's second-largest big-screen TV.
The University of Texas' high-definition LED scoreboard will be 134 feet wide and 55 feet high and will replace the 10-year-old, far smaller scoreboard in the south end zone. The Dolphins' largest scoreboard (they have two) is 140 by 50 feet, according to Mark Steinkamp, marketing and sales support manager of Daktronics, the South Dakota company that designed both boards.

After saying most of the Texas recruiting class are from Texas schools, it appears the 2007 recruiting class is more diverse than usual. Mack Brown's strategy is to bring in guys *before* their senior year and try to get verbals.
They already have the five top-ranked players in the state giving verbal commitments to play in Austin.
The most intriguing guy they have so far is a QB named Johnny Brantley out of Ocala, FL. Family and coaches are all Florida Gators but Brantley wanted to be a Longhorn rather than follow Chris Leak. Brantley was successfully running a pro level offense last year in high school including check-offs at the line, looking the safeties off the play, etc. His head coach, former Gator and NFL quarterback Kerwin Bell, says the kid just kept absorbing more stuff so Bell finally just threw the whole NFL playbook at him and the kid picked it right up.
The two kids fighting to replace Vince Young this year may have to look over their shoulders in another year or two.

I'm going to catch hell from SoCal and many others, but everyone should watch out for Florida. They are going to have the best offense in the country next year and for the foreseeable future.
I like their offensive system and I really like all the WR talent they are amassing but Leak doesn't fit their offense. He can execute the dropback part of their game, but he just isn't the type of athlete to execute the zone read, speed option, triple option and shovel option stuff they do from the shotgun. He's a dropback passer in a system that requires a good runner.
They will be very powerful on offense when he exits from the scene but he is holding them down, its not really his fault, there really isnt anything he can do, he can't make himself a running QB, he is what he is, a good, but not great pocket passer. They recruited a great QB for this style of offense in Josh Portis a year ago, but I am not sure if he is still part of the program and ofcourse they got Tim Tebow last year. He's supposed to be really smart, but the key is whether he can run. Everything depends on a running QB. Without an athlete at QB, the DEs will crash on the zone read play and force the QB to run it himself. Even on the options, they will keep crashing just like everyone in the SEC did last year and assign the next defender to the option back so that the QB is forced to run it. It's a good gamble. The SEC is perennially filled with speedy LBs who can get to the perimeter before the OL catches them in the wash, when you combine that with an immobile QB as well, it is trouble for the offense.
Meyer's system is great, and he is starting to get some big time athletes into it, but he is lacking the athletic QB, at least for this year. I agree though, for the forseeable future, Florida will be powerful.

A Vanderbilt fan and a Tennessee fan were fighting side-by-side in World War II, and both were captured and sentenced to die by firing squad. The Tennessee man was stood up before the firing squad and the guard asked him if he had any last request. He thought for a second, then asked them to play Rocky Top one last time. They asked the Vanderbilt fan for his last request and he said, "Shoot me first."
One day a teacher asked her class, "How many of you like the Vols?" All of the class raised their hands except for one little girl.
The teacher asked, "If you don't like the Vols, whom do you like?"
The little girl said, "I like the Commodores!"
