I scored this project boat that has hardly been used. 1974 28 foot Silverton Sportfisher. Rebuilt engines and interior that is vintage untouched basically. Boats only had 2 owners. The guy just needs the space and has lost the desire so boat has sat for many years. Check out that link.

right now I don't know when it's going out. I need to get it tuned up and gone through it hasnt been in water in a long time. It is a great classic platform though I agree.

Happiest day in a boat owners life.... buying his boat, second happiest day is when he sells the boat.

Me and my dad purchased a 30 foot Carver to take out on our SCUBA diving excursions, but he passed away before we were able to use it.

Dunno what you paid, a boat owner should never disclose that info, especially to the wife. You need to name her Monkey Business. Money Pit or Somethin' Fishy wouldn't be too bad either. Boat looks impeccable.

Ironically, I was going to intern with a friend for Hart while at D.U. before this Monkey Business thing came out. Ha!

Now all you have to do is buy some property in the Mohave desert and wait for the "Big One" and Viola, beach front property.

Do you have any good land for sale in that area because I love the beach.

it funny how people are divided into 2 camps on boats, ones that know nothing and say wow that will be fun, when are we going out? And then the others who know more and say get the wallet ready and call the bank for another loan.

Nothing could be more true. The frustrating is organizing the whole operation to obivious guests. Everyone should own a boat sometime in their life to prepare them for pergatory.

One thing that sticks out about this boat is the bait tank. It was added on, is big, is exp, gets water directly through the hull which is better then a long hose from transom. Really like a 500 dollar tank. One thing to learn when buying an older boat is to spend nothing on anything but major systems until boat is in water and running well. Heres the list I go down. Engines/Electrical/Water curculation/Propulsion then the next step very important. Hull integrity. On a big boat there are alot of through hole fittings for depth finders, fish finders, water intakes etc. Make sure they are all tight because a broken one can cause alot of probs obviously. Too many people budget for say 5000 dollars and spend say 1000-2000 on things that are not major systems. Then when they find out prop shaft is bent and needs replacing at a cost of 1700 dollars they suddenly don't have the money to even get boat on the water.

Gas for this boat will be alot. Say you want to go 90-100 miles for your day in ocean. You are looking at 80-100 gallons of gass. The thing is that if you can't afford that look for a smaller boat. When these gas engines go out though you could add for like 10-12 grand a pair of nice diesel engines that would repower this boat for another 5000 or so hours. Gas engines will get you about 1500-2000 grand until they need to be rebuilt or replaced. These 318 gas marine engines can be replaced for about 6 grand a pair. Of course those prices can go way up depending on what type engines you go for.
In the end though you do it because having a big boat that can handle being 100 miles of the coast is a rush. Life is almost never boring when you are deep sea fishing. Plus I have Catalina Island only 26 miles a way. Some of the best fishing on the Whole west coat. SD fishing grounds just south which is even better. Then Mexico if you really want to go 4 it.

well I don't know for sure yet but it's tanks hold 130 gallons. Prob will cost about 300 dollars to really chase the fish around all day. If you sit anchored more or drift alot then less. One thing you have to do in ocean is plan to travel with the current if you can by leaving at the right times.

Congrats on the boat! Yeah people complain about boats being money pits. Yeah they can be. So can buses. But they are both a helluva lot of fun!
