View Full Version : OT: 2006 Tour de France - Favorites Basso and Ullrich pulled from the tour
Damn, this year's tour is going to remind me of the 1984 Summer Olympics when the Russians stayed home. This doping scandal is huge.

Well, they caught all these guys...but they couldn't catch Lance? Hmmmmm...he must have some super-secret dope...and those guys only had regular dope.

I bet he's got a special urine filter secreted in his prostetic testicle. Good thing the French didn't think to check there.

oh, yeah, I remember him from last year, I think. What happened to him? I think I recall him having pretty much an allround ability as opposed to merely one speciality.

The last thing I heard is that most of the favorites were thrown out because of doping tests.
How utterly ironic.

Anybody see the Norwegian go down yesterday? Those world class thinkers, the French, might want to rethink handing out those green things, cause that was one nasty papercut.

I'm pulling for Big George Hincape. Actually I love this three weeks, cause it gives me something to watch while doing my aerobic work inside. I got my indoor cycle trainer set up at home. I call the ones at the gym, wife machines, cause the upright ones make my dick numb, and the recumbants put to sleep.

Ironically, this opens the field up for American riders. That would chaf the Frogs.

Big George made statements both days. But it's still very early, and Hincape is 33.... Levi is nowhere near, as I've seen. I've actually paid more attention to the LeMond pieces they've run. Very nice touch by the OLN, post Lance. Greg never got his true due in publicity.

Didn't Hincape sort of have to make a statement to solidify his leadership, with Salvodelli on the team as well.
And aren't Leipheimer and Zabreske a bit more secure in being "the man" for their teams?
btw, thanks for the link. the yahoo site sucks, and I hadn't thought to check the OLN sites. The tv coverage is ok, but not that great in the overall stats stuff.

No problem! I spent the entire weekend with Levi's family in Butte, man there are "Go Levi" signs everywhere, it was almost the theme of the parade.

I'm cool with Levi. I sort of like like it cause I can think of a lot of jokes, eg the Frogs won't be mad if he wins cause his name makes them think he's a Belgium...which is sort of a Frog.
I really didn't follow the offseason politicing in teams. I'm a little surprised either he or Zabriski isn't back with Lance's team, but it seems George is getting a shot after all these years. I have gotten the feeling from the commentators that the team isn't sure whether he or Salvodelli is the strongest rider.

Nope we have Lance this year....he's riding Ragbrai....too bad it's not coming anywhere near where I'd live....I'd (don't gasp to hard now) would actually attend an event if it was close. I highly doubt he'll be sleeping and living on the route..

You do anything in this? I'm hoping to be up for the BRAG (georgia) ride next year, and possibly the Fla tuneup that's in March or early April? I never considered Iowa, knowing it's the biggest, and figuring Iowa is ... flat. I've not riden longdistance in 10 years, but the one organized ride I went on was literally a race to the next small town restaurant, with the loser getting no pie.

Do I do that Ha! you're off your rocker...I'm to lazy for that. I'd rather ride a horse across Iowa. I did work with some people who did this every year and I've heard some stories....we'll just keep it at that. ;) Did you look at this years route...some where in the mess of that website they have the elevation changes...Iowa isn't all just flat. From the Geobike site In total, we're looking at around 17,300 feet of climb.

I was thinking of my wife and daughter driving a bit of it.

OK, since Mercx and Hinot, the French have seen LeMond literally destroy Hinot, and by most admissions LeMond would've won the year before, but being on Hinot's team did the team thing, and didn't ride to win. Then LeMond gets shot, nearly bleeds to death with a chest wound, loses 30-60 pounds of muscle, comes back and wins TWO more tours, so reasonably this guy should have won 6 straight before EPO. Then, there's Ulrich and then Lance. Now there's Landis looking pretty good.
Three Americans. One survives a near fatal shooting that should've ened his career. One guy lives through cancer. And now Landis is dissing the french with an arthritic hip. I'm thinking these people should just end their misery with a national Jim Jones suicide punch
