Go with the cheapest one you can find. It's like a car. The only thing you ever need to go above and beyond on a PC is if you're going to do graphic design or heavy gaming...otherwise...any will do for stroage, internet, and word porcessing.

umm..don't spend 2K on a computer? I got a real nice puter for 350. It's got slots and all kinds of front plugs.

I might spend that on HDTV.

most of the $$$ is on monitors so I can play 4-5 tables at once.

WinXP will support up to ten monitors.

With a laptop and a docking station/port replicator you can hook up two monitors to the laptop by using the laptop diisplay and the one monitor at the same time. Or you could get a desktop and get a duel video card and hook up two seperate monitors to it.

You have to post a pic with your 5 monitors running. I think your full of it. And what is the point?

Its really easy to run 4 or 5 tables. More hands per hour, means a better hourly rate.

I think Im going to draw up a law suit also since I have to miss the WSOP, I figure Im out about $10MM :)

Maybe if you concentrated on one table your odds would improve.

Poker isn't about getting 5 monitors to cherry pick a hand.

I spent about $1,500 on a laptop a few years ago. At the same time a I bought a few dell units for about 400/piece.

The laptop is worthless now.

How/where are you going to use it? Do you want to be able to play poker on the toilet & walk all over the house? if so then go with a Dell Latitude D800 laptop or some Mac if you have money to spend Full Tilt now has a Mac Client.

If you are stationary you cannot go wrong with Dell or Alienware PC's. I like the AMD 64bit CPU's with the XP 64bit OS installed. you will fly like an Eagle on speed with a solid rocket booster attached with the 64 bit OS installed.

Get the highest CPU speed you can afford & the most RAM (memory) usually 2-3 gig is a good start. Ask for SATA disk drives with lots of space for storage based on what your storage needs are. Size it for 3-5 years of use.

Macs are an option if they support your apps that you use, they are easy & pretty but cost more but they are pretty, did I say they are pretty?

One word: Refurbished.

My buddy got a $2500 computer for $600, because it was refurb. If you know what you're doing with computers, then refurbished is nothing to fear.

Don't get a MAC..it's a waste of money unless you're doing graphic design.

Buy all the computer parts from Newegg.com and build your own. You'll save atleast $500. I just bought a 320 GB External HD from them for $144. Can't beat that!

Yep. I've built all our PCs buying the parts (Harddrives, Motherboard, CPU, Memory, DVD-Recorders/drives, Video card, speaker system, monitor and power supply) from Newegg. I have upper tier AMD systems for around $800 each. Can create lightscribe labels on DVD/CDs, download music, surf the web and stream music all at the same time, no problem.

Too bad I'm not up there, I'd build one for you, only takes a few hours after you have all the parts (2-3 days from Newegg).

I built mine from parts from Frys & what I had laying around the house but I think AK wants support with his. Go with an established vendor that has a good support track record like Dell. Stay away from Best Buy or Circuit City if you can unless you have them build an Alienware PC for you.

I built several desktops from components at www.Monarchcomputer.com. You can buy a barebones motherboard/cpu mounted with fan and put in the case of your choice for just about no cost over what they charge for parts.

Last week I finally gave in and bought a new laptop from HP. Here are the specs from the order confirmation:

- Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2400 (1.83 GHz)
- 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
- 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
- 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
- 100 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
- Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth

It certainly isn't going to be a lightweight totable. I wanted a "portable desktop" that I can use for dvd authoring. This cost about 1800 bucks... a comparably equipped Dell was about 2800.

no help here b/c I take my best friend who actually knows something I merely say what I can afford and he does the shopping. I got great credit so I usually plan on the buying when it is 18 months no interest and pay it off in 17 months. but no help here.

Build your own. it's easy and you can customize to your needs at a fraction of the price that a company like dell will charge you. Go dual core and make sure you are Vista ready.Google is your friend.

No offense, but who cares about being Vista ready. Microsoft stopped being a software company a while back and are now a marketing company. They are now marketing the same thing with different GUIs over and over. XP was supposed to be the greatest thing for your PC since the modem, yet it was less stable and less secure than Win 2k. Since they are still not changing the core kernal set, they're still schilling the public for a dot upgrade.
