Thanks from the Troops
Operation USO Care Package received the following emails from troops serving overseas...
"My troops and I just received a box of USO Care Packages two days ago
and it's really nice to see support from the states. It's tough over here,
but we really enjoy mail (especially goody bags) from the states. Our
packages had a card saying our packages were sponsored by the 'Big
Show' and I thought, 'Man, those guys are awesome.'"
--379 Expeditionary Communications Squadron
"I have just returned from my R&R leave and I want to "Thank You" for the
superb support your organization gives to us troops. Your smiling faces,
warm greetings, fresh refreshments, and care packages are without a doubt
a genuine sign of the sacrifices your volunteers give to keep the USO in
an active state."

nice....
So - do they have like a pen pal or email pal setup available? That might be an interesting thing to start doing.

I mentioned it half a year ago., Takes time. A care package is only 20 bucks whether you are in or out.
How that doesn't stir you is beyond me. This isn't about politics, It's about giving maybe some support more than all. It's 20 bucks for a care package...I'm almost ashamed.

Obiviously it takes awhile to get there.

I am writing a woman who decided to support the troops and by herself is single handedly taking care of this group of guys. I have thought for years it was a church that did this but it's just one really neat woman.
She appreciates what is being done because her son was a fireman who survived the collapse of the twin towers. He went in the first tower and after that collapsed and he survived he went into the second tower and that collapsed on him. Her son's entire squad was wiped out except for him. Needless to say he's shook up.
He speaks publicly about his experience to other fireman and is retired now. He can't run into burning buildings anymore.
The amount she sends alone is incredible. That means I've adopted someone whose adopted the soldiers. It's a pretty interesting dialogue.
There are multiple organizations that do good work. It's a worthwhile.

---If you go to www.stripes.com you can find out interesting things.
There are actually quite a few posters here who have been here or know of people over here.
I got PM'ed by a marine who claims he posts here and he is in Fallujah. He did not want me to drop by as I was on the road in the area. I cannot believe that a guy in the sand who posts here would not want to hook up. The roads are no joke and having someone at your destination is actually the decent thing to do. I don't get it but whatever. No DSN number? What's up with that?

No LABF, the USO doesn't accept IED's. Ha! I thought I had satisfied my concience till I got that email. I placated it with another $20 goodie bag. Consider it like voting. Never mind! Ha! I don't mean to bang the drum, but damn...can you imagine being in that combat suit in a baking Humvee at 120 degrees? If they had fresh eggs, I bet they could fry them on the hood and make toast and sausage. Last time I checked, only Goldielocks had AC in her Hummer. I wouldn't mind getting a Hummer from her tho!

ALL of the humvees have AC. Some of them have a hi/lo fan. Some of them have on/off switchs. Some of them have just a rolled down window and are motion driven but ALL humvees have AC.

Cool. I did not know that. I assumed it was too damn hot to even run A/C if they had them. They must have hellacious radiators. I know the tanks have climate control.

Sounds like a regular picnic at the beach without the surf!

Sarcasm:
"motion driven" = take off the door or slide down the window. The faster you drive the cooler it gets.
I don't know what percentage have real AC but there are more of them than has been. In the early days NOBODY had AC.
