With the early exit of the USA from this summer’s football World Cup, many bettors have turned their attention to the forthcoming NFL season, and sportsbooks including Bodog.com have begun to single out the favourites to win the 2007 Super Bowl.

So far there has been a surprise choice of pre-season favourite with the Indianapolis Colts, despite recent failings in the NFL playoffs, being quoted at 6/1 to win the Super Bowl. Early second favourites are the New England Patriots at 8/1, followed by the Seattle Seahawks, the Denver Broncos and the Pittsburgh Stealers who all come in at 10/1.

Other forecasts in the futures market see many teams at relatively short odds with the Dallas Cowboys at 12/1, the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers and Carolina Panthers all at 14/1, and finally the Chicago Bears and New York Giants at 15/1.

Bets can be placed at Bodog.com on potential winners of the 2007 Super Bowl up to a maximum of $500.

Colts are still a threat. Just not as glaring. AFC is looking pretty unsettled lately.

I agree to an extent. Its a huge loss, we'll see how Rhodes and Addai can do.

That's a pretty good asumption. They are a force in AFC although manning and those WR are due for some injuries as they have been lucky.

I said they lost favorability when James left. Not just his production but also his ability to keep defenses honest as well as stay in and block. While Rhodes and/or Addai can fill-in, they won't be what James was.

however, with Steel country not sure abour Big Ben, Cincy being not sure about palmer, NE having to replace another coordinator and our question marks, who really is the Favorite?

Rhodes and Addai will do fine, but James was a great pass blocker as well, that will be missed.

The Colts lost a bit more when the Stillers beat them. Manning threw his "protection" under the bus, and there could be a bit of impatience running through that organization about now. Some issues about the stadium, and there was talk at one point that the organization might have an interest in being "the" team in LA. There are enough quesitons for that team, and I hope that team blows up. I have not looked at their scedule, but I think a lot of teams are going to look at creative ways to blitz Manning. I think the RBs will get a lot of experience being part of the "protection".

Choke artist. There's a reason they got rid of him in Tampa Bay. He got a pass last season because of his personal woes, but if that hadn't happened he'd probably be on the hot seat. They had the trophy gift-wraped by the league and they still blew it.

Just as soon as I find my bicycle helmet I'm gonna swap out our O-line and bring in Arizona's. Is Ryan Leaf still working at Wal-Mart? I can't seem to get a hold of him. Oh well, there's always Kurt Warner's wife. She even has her own helmet!

I think Dungy is a fine coach. It's not his fault his kicker choked while the offensive line suddenly disappeared.

About the only bad thing he did was let them coast at the end of the regular season. I don't really put a lot of stock in that, either, because these guys are professional football players.

I disagree on that one. Didn't they go for the end zone twice and then leave Vanderjerk a 47-yarder??

The guy is good, but they could've tried to get him closer. Apparently Manning wanted the glory and none of the blame.

I forget if they went for the endzone or not but youre right. They had 2nd and 3rd down with like two or three yards for a first and Manning threw two incompletes to Wayne that were way beyond the first down marker.

The Colts set themselves up for the choke last year. They played absolutely no one for the majority of the year. ESPN and football broadcasters told us all year how great they were while beating alot of nothing. The really bad part was absolutely no one would come out and say. Geez the Colts have beat the Titans (twice), Ravens, 49ers, Rams, Texans, and Cardinals. It was alot like watching Nebraska in the day, highly ranked with no possibility of losing because their competition sucked so badly. Handing the lombardi to that team for the trash they played would have been criminal.

Maybe James wouldn't have left had Manning not received that obnoxious contract a few years ago. Manning jokes maybe he would run more....actually I think that is no joke. Since you have sucked the huge contract out of the Colts ownership Peyton I'm almost positive you'll be running more.

How is it not true? Manning never could beat Florida in college despite probably having the better team a couple of times, and has only 2 playoff wins in his career despite multiple appearances, and even a couple of playoff byes. That is not a strong resume for his performance with something big on the line.

It's kinda funny about Manning...the difference is Elway took an offense that didn't have near the WR's that Manning has had, and at least made it to the big game, almost 7 times if you count the buffalo and Jacksonville meltdowns.

Manning hasn't made it once, but the media still is sucking his balls.

You're right, they had the perfect set up last year and they blew it. I find it funny that Vegas is giving them another chance. I think Peyton is following the career path of Dan Marino at this point in his career. When Marino was in year 8 or 9, it was pretty obvious that they weren't going to win a SB with him. Manning's window of opportunity is closing rapidly.

Thought this was a pretty good read

TEAM #3: 1997 Michigan Wolverines
Overall Record: 12-0
Conference Record: 8-0
Power Rating: .925
Strength of Schedule: .624
Big Ten Strength: .582
Losses to: none
Blown out by: none
Significant Wins: Michigan State (28), Penn State (18), Washington State (11), Ohio State (12)
Record vs. Top 30: 4-0
Average Pts Scored: 27
Average Pts Allowed: 10
Key Players: Zach Adami, Jon Jansen, Jermaine Tuman, Glen Steele, Marcus Ray, Andre Weathers, Charles Woodson, Brian Greise, Steve Hutchinson, Jeff Backus, Josh Williams, Sam Sword, Jason Vinson

Summary/Comments: The '97 Michigan Wolverines won the Big Ten and were co-national champs, sharing the award with Nebraska. Michigan went undefeated of course, with relative close calls against fair Notre Dame, Iowa, and Wisconsin teams, as well against a pretty good Washington State team in the Rose Bowl. The big question most of you are probably asking here is....#3??!!! They were the only Big Ten team to garner a share of the national title. How can you rank them #3? Well, most will be covered when I get to the #2 team, but simply put, they were not tested as much as the top 2 teams. In 1997, the Big Ten was its worst over the last 7 years. Throw in the fact that their non-conference schedule was relatively pedestrian relative to the other elite teams (.624) and you get a team that never had to be tested by other top teams. They did not play a top 10 team and one of their 4 quality wins was against Michigan State (#28). Their 3 relatively tight games were also over non-rated teams. In some respects, I think the fact that this team went 12-0 is pretty impressive. Defensively they were terrific of course, but offensively, while they were competent, they certainly were not dominant. So, to finish as co-national champs (though I think they were robbed) with a very very good but not spectacular team is a solid accomplishment.
