Ten things you didn't know about Denver

Jun. 25, 2006 12:00 AM

SoCals link:http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/travel/articles/0625denver10.html

1. Denver really is exactly one mile high. By an amazing stroke of good luck, there is a step on the State Capitol Building that is exactly 5,280 feet above sea level - one mile high. The 11th step is carved in stone as a mile high, but in 1969, it was found that the actual spot was four steps higher. In 2002, it was discovered that Denver is 3 feet higher than previously thought and a third marker was placed on the 13th step.

In Denver's rarified air, golf balls go 10 percent farther. Alcoholic drinks pack more of a wallop than at sea level. The sun feels warmer, because you are closer to it, but your coffee is cooler, because water boils at 202 degrees. advertisement

Mile High Denver is also extremely dry, so it is a good idea to drink more water than normal. With less water vapor in the air at this altitude, the sky really is bluer in Colorado. But there is 25 percent less protection from the sun, so sunscreen is a must.

2. Denver has the 10th largest downtown in America. Unlike some Western cities, Denver has a walkable downtown. Within a mile radius, downtown Denver holds three major sports stadiums, the nation's second-largest performing arts center, three colleges with 30,000 students, an assortment of museums, a mint producing 10 billion coins a year, a river offering whitewater rafting, more than 5,300 hotel rooms, a $140 million amusement park, a $100 million aquarium and more than 300 restaurants.

3. Denver is near the mountains, not in them. Denver is located on high rolling plains, 12 miles east of what locals call the "foothills," a series of gentle mountains that climb to 11,000 feet. Beyond them is the "Front Range of the Rocky Mountains," a series of formidable snowcapped peaks rise to 14,000 feet. There are 200 named peaks visible from the city, including 32 that reach more than 13,000 feet. The picturesque mountain panorama visible from Denver is 140 miles long.

4. Denver has 300 days of sunshine a year. Located east of a major mountain range, Denver has a mild, dry and sunny climate with more annual hours of sun than San Diego or Miami Beach. In winter, Denver is dryer than Phoenix with an average daily high of 45 degrees in February. Golf courses remain open all year and have been played as many as 30 days in January. Denver receives only 14 inches of precipitation a year-about the same as Los Angeles.

5. Denver's history is short, but colorful. In 1858, no one lived in the Denver metro area except for some migrating camps of Arapaho and Cheyenne. Within 30 years, Colorado was a state with a population of almost 200,000. The Gold Rush caused this boom, and in a 30- to 40-year period, Denver saw some of the wildest events in the "Wild West."

6. Denver has the largest city park system in the nation. Denver has more than 200 parks within the city and 20,000 acres of parks in the nearby mountains, including spectacular Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Other mountain parks include Echo Lake, at the base of the Mount Evans highway-the highest road in North America, and Buffalo Bill's Grave on top of Lookout Mountain. Denver plants more than 200,000 flowers in 26 formal flower gardens every spring. There are 650 miles of off-street bike paths, 90 golf courses and one of the nation's largest urban trail systems. A federal study recently found that Denver has the thinnest residents of any major U.S. city.

7. Denver is a cultural city with one of the highest-educated populations in America. In its Old West days, Denver had a performance of Macbeth before it had a school or a hospital. That performance took place in a saloon. Today, the Denver Performing Arts Complex has 10 theatres seating 10,000 people and is second only to New York's Lincoln Center. The complex includes the new Ellie Caulkins Opera House, which opened in Sept. 2005 and has been declared one of the finest acoustical halls in the nation. Denver is consistently ranked as one of the top five cities in the nation for the most high school and college graduates per capita. Denver is currently adding a new wing to the Denver Art Museum designed by Daniel Libeskind, architect of the World Trade Center redesign project. This will be his first building in America and will open in September 2006.

8. Denver loves its sports. Denver is one of only two cities (Philadelphia is the other) to have seven professional sports teams including the NFL Denver Broncos, the NBA Denver Nuggets, NHL Colorado Avalanche, Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies, Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids, the Arena Football Denver Crush and the Lacrosse team Colorado Mammoth. The Colorado Rockies have 11 Major League Baseball attendance records, while the Denver Broncos have sold out every game for more than 20 years. Denver also has horse and dog racing, professional rodeo and an annual Grand Prix.

9. Denver is a city of many cultures with great diversity.

Denver grew by 30 percent in the 1990s-an average of 1,000 people a week. In this period, the Hispanic population in Colorado increased by 73 percent. Today, 32 percent of the City of Denver is of Hispanic and Latino descent and 11 percent are African American. Denver's diversity is celebrated at numerous events including the nation's largest Cinco de Mayo celebration and the Juneteenth and Dragon Boat Festival.

10. Denver brews more beer than any other city. The first building in Denver was a saloon, so it's natural that Denver would become a great beer town. Coors Brewery is the world's largest. Denver's Great American Beer Festival is the largest in the nation with 1,700 different beers. On an average day, Denver brews more than 80 different beers. Why is Denver the "Napa Valley" of beer? Well, just as the water tumbling down from the Scottish Highlands has made Scotland a center for whiskey, the great taste of Rocky Mountain spring water provides a key basic ingredient for the city's booming beer brewing industry

How about the 10 worst things about Denver?

1. Hack, plastic, overrated TV newsstations, amongst the worst in the nation - "The bubbleheaded bleach blond comes on at 5... she can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye"

2. CDOT and the T-Rex mess or how to get stuck in a 3 lane converted to one lane major road at any hour of the day for 5 years

3. Smog that pollutes the entire front range

4. Highlands Ranch "California East"

5. Wellington Webb, former mayor and scumbag

6. DIA - "We promise to make it as confusing as possible for you to get to Terminal C"

7. Five points blvd - Gangland of the Rockies

8. Colfax Ave - Home of the human petrie dish hookers

9. Denver radio - The same song 10 times in a row NEXT on Alice at 106!

10. Qwest - The proud home of the great telecom swindlers of the Midwest aka Joe Naccio and Afshin Mohebbi!

On a serious note the only scar on the city is the fact that it is a haven for illegal immigrants.

That's the first I've heard anyone complain about this. I wonder which station you've watched. Two of our stations have won Best Bews station of the year Emmy's a few times and emmy awards spread throughout. If you're talking about 7 news, then I'd say you are right. News 4 and 9News are pretty good, though and cerntainly better than "hack" quality. Channel 2 news is a total joke. Same with Fox 31. 2 out of five isn't that bad especially when those two score Emmy awards every year.

I havent worked in TV news for 15 years, but Denver, Minneapolis and Dallas were at the cutting edge of all local news in those days (save NY and LA) ... Phoenix was pretty good too. You're probably right about Channels 7 and 31, though. I worked at KWGN-2 there, and it resembled a small-mid-market news operation.

Buffalo, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, New Orleans - these cities among the major markets had the poorest TV news product - it was more like the kind you'd find in mid-markets like Omaha or Des Moines.

It's all about local competition for the VERY lucrative ad dollars. If one or more stations in a given market, regardless of its size, start out-performing the others - then the race is on for the others to match the product. In some cities, the race just never started. That's why Albuquerque and Austin had better newscasts in the 80's than even Buffalo and Kansas City.

The sun feels warmer, because you are closer to it,
I get so irritated when people say this. The earth is so far from the sun that even though light travels over 6,000,000 miles per second it takes eight minutes to get yere yet somehow being one mile closer is gonna make some kind of difference. Gee, I wonder why Death Valley is so hot considering it's over a mile farther from the sun than Denver. ::)

With less water vapor in the air at this altitude, the sky really is bluer in Colorado. But there is 25 percent less protection from the sun,
At least this article does expose the real reasons for the sun being warmer and potentially more damaging to the skin.

Pez your my boy but alot of the issues you are knocking Denver on are a result of you Californians. :cuss:

Actually I like the fact that more people don't really know how nice Denver is. The misconception about our "cold" weather helps keep alot of you yahoos out of here.:)

It's interesting to note that article came out of Arizona. Denver just launched a multi-million dollar campaign to lure Arizonan's to the Mile High City. There are billboards sitting on highways in Phx as we speak. How people live in 115 degree weather is beyond me but I have a feeling the AZ to Denver land rush will be hitting high gear soon.

At the end of the day though there is no better city to watch a football game at.

Don't like denver persay. WAY too much traffic. Used to live down by highlands ranch in littleton. HATED the traffic. HOWEVER, up in the mountains, yeah it's nice. Also like southern Colorado, far away from them peoples and such. Take in a rockies , bronco game occassionally with a short drive. Could live there again, I guess, IF I wasn't in Denver or the springs. But, probably won't. The inlaws live there along with my two VERY, VERY uppity sister in laws. Amen that freak 4-5 footer a few years ago was the best. Well I've read reports that the glacier in Idaho springs is growing as such a rate that scientists are predicting that Evergreen will be under permanent ice in few years. That should help keep the surfers out. As a result avg daily highs for Denver will probably never get above 20 degrees in the winter.

I do remember popping advil b/c of intense headaches while I visited the city of Denver I guess it was the thin air. Also it was relatively warm until my last day I was in short sleeves in February when I visited and then boom a blizzard and then i realized the need for a blockbuster on every block. Also I stood outside the "new" airport for 90 minutes to check in and almost missed my flight. United was striking or something during that time. Cool airport out in the boondocks though. honestly I felt like Denver is where Memphis is trying to go in the downtown area. Of course this is at least four years ago. I visited after 9-11 and was pissed b/c the mint and the capital dome was closed for security reasons. Unlike Memphis where we raze and rebuilt Denver seem to have great architure and pride in History. heck memphis just sold it zippin pippin for 2500 dollars elvis favorite roller coaster. Memphis has no pride in History. We lost the Memphis Belle and other historial sites are routinely shut down b/c of budget crisies.

I think Colorado is cool but the thin air sucks. I'll pass for that reason alone.

the thin and CLEAN air is actually a big benefit once you get used to it.

then again, you just keep thinking that. pass it along.

denver used to be the countrys best kept secret, and i wish it wouldve stayed that way.

Just a couple minor corrections:

The redevelopments of not only Stapleton Airport but of Lowry Air Force Base also are going fairly well, although there is still a lot of land to be developed at the old Stapleton Airport. By the way Atlas, in case you didn't know, the nickname around here for Coors beer is Rocky Mountain Cougar Piss.

I actually just grabbed the master plan for Stapelton. Those guys are killing it. The old runway over I-70 is going to be a major blvd joining the old stapelton now new neighborhoods to the commercial north of the freeway. They've landed major retailers like Macys already. Beautiful outdoor mall concept, big parks, open space, lakes, mountain views, quick access to DIA and downtown. The list goes on and on. Oh and not to mention the new Rapids soccer stadium that has already broken ground just a couple miles north of there. I tried to get a sneak peak of the construction but I was in the wrong vehicle.

It's going to be a solid mix of work, live, play environment. The new trend on the front range. This will help us avoid becoming LA.

10. Qwest - The proud home of the great telecom swindlers of the Midwest aka Joe Naccio and Afshin Mohebbi!

pretty amazing that thats all you can think of for a bad list.

colfax is CHILDS PLAY compared to similar streets/neighborhoods in other major cities, highlands ranch isnt that bad (other than the houses being way too close together), denver radio is just fine if you stay away from alice and listen to 99.5 or 103.5 (both excellent rock stations), five points same as colfax (nothing compared to bad areas in other big cities), DIA is probably the nicest and easiest airport ive ever been to (and ive been to alot), webb had ALOT of good qualities also (one of which was being a huge bronco fan!!), and the smog is DRASTICALLY down from a few years ago. most days i drive over the hill and that "brown cloud" of old is gone and the gorgeous view stretching hundreds of miles is back.

traffic on I-25 is a mess.

thats the entirety of my list.
bad things about denver:

traffic on I-25 sucks.

pretty small list!!

light rail will be open soon bro....just hang on a bit more! You'll be zipping down the new line to MH in no time! Stress free! We got you the right spot Jake. They'll be plenty of californians begging to live in your area soon enough. Atleast you beat them and cut your drive time down by what 8 hrs from New Mexico. Still don't know how you did that every damn game.

Horse-dookie! T-rex is a joke. When they finish with it, they'll need to start T-rex 2 just to keep up with the f-ing traffic. I have to listen to JAZZ on the way home so I don't end up offing a few idiots who deserve it on a daily basis.

Dont get me wrong fellas, I was a 5th generation Coloradoan, but believe me, I dont miss the metro Denver area at all. Especially the oversaturated news market, the brown cloud that pollutes everything along the front range, and worse yet, the nightmare 10 year projects that CDOT moves so slowly to finish. (Is I-25 still 2 lane from Longmont to Fort Collins? What a joke)

As for the media, lets see... Last I remember, Fox news was a sensationalistic turd, channel two was hardly worthy of watching and the major networks had so much filler and mind-numbingly bad material, it was hard to get real news. For god's sake, this was the town that spent 3 weeks of headlines on POLAR BEAR CUBS. And JonBonet, and the "investigative undercover reporting" of the DIA workers. Blah. Dont miss it, dont need it. End of story. Back to you Adele! ;)

As for Denver radio, Clear Channel ruined Denver radio so long ago, I cant even remember what non-corporate rock was supposed to sound like. Radio is dead in Denver. Well, at least there is still Lewis and Floorwax. Then again, if Kathy Lee is still with them... nevermind.

As for California hate. Well, duh! This state sucks! You'll get no arguement from me ROFL!

Okay here is Memphis's list and makes you wanna love Denver:

1 Willie Herenton Mayor of Memphis. Corrupt Corrupt Corrupt. Does your mayor have a full time bodyguard protection 24/7?

2. The Fords family. Um he claims his funeral home as his residency, occupies two different houses out east with two different wives and children One set of family for each house. The list gets worse

3. Our backdrop view is the muddy mississppi River. Not those majestic mountians.

4. No Denver Broncos. Although we get to relagurly get to see the Colts or Titans as the Local team. :(

5. Road construction is always happening here. Also while I was in Denver you actually have great signage warning of construction.

6. crime crime crime we are second only to Detriot

7. Humidity Humidity and Humidity

8. Mlgw our lovely local utitlity company that charged me more for a month during a two week wind damage power outage then on a normal full power month.

9. No denver broncos local news.

10. Getting to the local dmv at 6 am only to wait all day and then they close and you have to come back the next day and wait again. The have police officers station they are there to control the crowds.

I could live with all that if Denver and the surrounding area lost about 200,000 people. Just too crowded for me.

That's why we moved to Longmont.... close enough that you are in Denver in 45 min or so (north side is 30 min and south side is 60) but far enough away that you are living in a small city with defined seperation from all the other suberbs...

Plus - my wife's family is here and so she's in heaven. When you wife is in heaven then you are in heaven.

I agree with this 100%. The crazy competition for the news in Denver has made it one of the best. I have seen many people from Denver move to bigger cities or national news. Plus, what other city makes you sit out for several months before switching to a different station.

The news in NOLA sucks fo shizzle.

A few points to add/in need of clarification on the original post:

The purple seats at Coors Field also symbolize 1 mile high.

I thought Denver became a major town kind of accidentily when some people got lost off the Oregon trail and discovered silver in the mountains outside the tiny little town of Denver. In fact, it was the area near Cheyanne (much closer to the trail) that was supposed to be founded as the great city of the west.

The actual precipitation and lack of humidity Denver receives actually qualifies the area as a desert.

Anyone agree with the last two or heard similar? If not, I blame DPS as always.

Denver is great as far as citys go no doubt. I lived there for about 7 years and loved it BUT living 3 hours away in the heart of the Rocky Mtns is where its at for me :yep:

PS the traffic sucked back then I had to do the 6th ave/I25/I70 crap everyday. I figured when I move here I got around 5 hours a week of my life back.

Yeah, but most of these are immigrants from California. A lot of us old timers are thinking of renaming the state Calirado or Colofornia to accomodate them and make them feel more at home.

Drivers in SoCal are downright nice compared to Denver drivers.

And, judging from my most recent visits to CO, there seems to be just as many "immigrants" from Texas, Kansas, Ohio, and some of the southern states as CA.

These were some of the rudest people, in my experience.

To be fair, I assume a lot of the belligerence on the roads has to do with the fact that people in CO haven't had enough time to adjust to the tremendous growth the region has experienced yet.

Especially when it comes to hockey.

You know that your sports talk radio is bad when you're taking on a syndicated show out of the worst sports town in America, Atlanta.

Moser & Clough. Meh, Not too bad, probably the best 950 has to offer by default. Unfortunately for me, their show ends before I get up in the morning.

Thierry & (whoever). Again, Meh. Not bad, but nothing special either. Moser has been sitting in as poor Thierry Smith sees the revolving door of sidekicks continue.

Jim Rome. My opinion of this jerkoff is well known.

Hastings & Williams. I have a theory about this one. I honestly believe that they put these two together and gave them two hours just for the sake of making Irv & Joe look good by comparison.....and it worked. I haven't listened to them in some time because they finally broke the camel's back with me. On a day when the NBA & NHL playoffs as well as MLB were all in full swing, these two spent the first half of their program talking about American Idol. I don't know what they spent the 2nd half talking about because I turned it off and haven't listened to them since. If I never hear these two schmucks again, it'll be too soon.

Irv & Joe: Moses & Moonshine continue to stink up afternoon drive time. Good news/bad news situation. The good news, their show was reduced from 4 hours to 3. The bad news, that extra hour was given to Hastings & Williams. Their sucktitude is further enhanced by the presence of the ever whiny Mike Evans.

After that it's all syndicated radio. Either FSR or this new crap out of the sports suckhole known as Atlanta. Pathetic.

Denver isn't all roses, just like most large cities. The air is horrible on some days, with the EPA citing non attainment for a huge area including the front range (Denver to Ft Collins), east all the way out Ft Morgan and West all the way to Rocky Mtn National Park.

The traffic is also some of the worst in the country.

Living in most large cities certainly isn't good for your health these days.

Denver is also quite a bit over the national average in crime.

Yup, the two areas I commute between are both in the top 12 (The horror of the 91 freeway!!!). Did I say how much I hate SoCal traffic? Almost as much as I hate Denver traffic, especially I-25, I-70, I-76, 6th Ave, and pretty much anything in LoDo? But, at least SoCal has 6 lanes of gridlock to wade through rather than just the 2 or 3 lanes that Denver offers ROFL!

Yeah, Denver's two main Interstates were designed with no thought of 3 million people having to use them and no room to expand them, creating bottlenecks and traffic nightmares. Just wait until Denver has 5 million trying to use them.

One thing that stands out though is Denver having higher murder rates than many other cities.
Yeah, but even in Denver it's relativey rare (15.4 out of 100,000), and these figures don't include suburbs. The Denver Metro area is twice as populous and covers three times the area as the Portland Metro area (Oregon), yet their population numbers are almost identicle (right around 550,000). Add in the 'burbs and I'll bet the numbers for violent crimes go down and the numbers for property crimes go up.

Only bad thing is the 45 degree weather in the winter. Too cold for me. I am used to 70-80 degree winters.

But it is a dry 45 - Feels like 65. :)

TV News in Denver is 10 times better than in DC. What a bunch of bufoons.

Those stats are misleading though. The 53 Chiefs that are killed at Mile High every year always skew the end results.

Exactly. Like many cities, people moved into the suburbs. Listing Denver alone with out Aurora, Littleton, Highlands Ranch ect, I would even include Castle Rock and Parker, Golden and even Boulder. Let's see where those stats lay.

Unlike other cities, even tho the Metro Denver area continues to grow at speeds only rivaled by Las Vegas, Denver has done a great job at rehabbing the lower downtown area. LoDo, Eliches, the Pepsi Center, 16th street mall, light rail ect.... once again, the alarmist Beerslug misses the point entirely. Sure, you wind up in 5 points at the wrong time, or E. Colfax, your on your own. Overall, IMO, Metro Denver is pretty damn safe. It has it's canker sores like any other city. The difference is, there has been a concerted effort to rehabilitate areas.

I live there. Very, very nice place to live and a tremendous philosophy for urban design. All kinds of national awards. Don't know if it's going to stop suburban sprawl, but hopefully it's the wave of the future.

Stapelton won't stop urban sprawl but it's a step in the right direction for the front range. More and more of these large scale developments are focused on providing a place where people can actually live within just a few mile radius. The fact that it's only a few miles away from the Fitzimmons redevelopment is amazing in and of itself. For those of you that may remember the old army hospital on Colfax that has now become the largest Hospital project in the USA. Not the second largest. The largest! This is what the old hospital use to look like. You can't even see it from Colfax as it is buried by hundreds of millions of dollars of new hopspital buildings.

If I'm not mistaken the Stapelton airport redevelopment is the largest of it type also.

Put these two pieces together and you have a real postive situation brewing for the eastern area of Denver/Aurora.

GLOBAL WARMING? seems the ice age is coming.

First, I didn't say rare, I said "relatively rare." If you live in Denver you have a 0.015% chance of being murdered. Second, I wasn't attempting to make a defense of Denver. I was simply pointing out that large cities will always have crime rates higher than the national average. It comes with population density. Third, I also pointed out the fallacy of judging an entire metropolitan area based on it's central city. When you get into the 'burbs the violent crimes usully drop and the property crimes usually go up.

You can point out all the crime statistics about Denver that you'd like. Since I don't live in Denver I really don't care.

All I know is that, for major (but relatively rare) crimes like murder, there is a great deal of fluctuation from year to year. If you have a gang war or one or two multiple slayings, that can really drive the rate up.

I think the burglary rate tends to be more steady.

My grandfather was in large part responsible for #6. He was head of Parks and Recreation under Mayor Stapleton when a lot of the parks were built. He also had Red Rocks Theatre built and started Winter Park.

At least this article does expose the real reasons for the sun being warmer and potentially more damaging to the skin.

Ben

It's not about distance to the sun, it is because there is much less atmosphere to block UV rays. It's also the same reason that DIA requires some of the longest runways in the country, not enough atmosphere to take off.

I just drove thru there about a week ago. It looks pretty nice. http://www.auroragov.org/AuroraGov/Departments/Parks___Open_Space/Golf/Fitzsimons/index.htm?ssSourceNodeId=824&ssSourceSiteId=621

Infact they are redeveloping the backside of the golf course with a nice bike path, parking areas to enjoy the open space, man made lake that I hear they plan on stocking for a nice urban fishing hole! I haven't golfed this course yet but it's on my list to do.

A few more things some of you may not have known about Denver.

I'll give you a little photo tour from Cherry Creek /Invesco/ to the capital on an orange and blue schwinn. Yep they are all within biking distance.

We have one of the largest art festivals every year. http://www.cherryarts.org/users/ It's considered to be one of the best in the nation.

I've been to a few places in my Air Force career. Denver is one of the nicest places I've been. The mountains alone are awsome. My goal is to retire there.
You'll fit right in with that car ... :pimp:

Denver has over 300 miles of bike paths. Here is the cherry creek path to downtown. Nice place to ride!

Click on this link for a map. http://www.sandcreekgreenway.org/1news/1.1press/post041405.htm

Somewhere just beyond Washington street.

The city of Denver just completed a complete renovation on our convention center. It's incredible. Some of you old timers probably remember going to the old colesium off I-70 for conventions. Not any more. Check this baby out!

19 more miles of light rail will be opening this fall! With several more lines being planned. Infact they'll be breaking ground on a new line from downtown to Golden in the near future! Bet you didn't know that!

This is the current stop for Mile High.

This is where I was headed. To the Denver Outlaws tailgate put on by Buck and the members of clubcrush.

If there is one thing you didn't know about Denver it's that we'll find any reason to tailgate even for a lacrosse game.;D

It's a nice, traditional style course. My brother worked there as a Pro a few years back, so I played there more than a few times for practically nothing. It was even a course that was well liked by President Eisenhower before WWII.

After the tailgate I headed towards the 16th st mall. Great place to stroll and catch a free ride on a shuttle. Or from a horse. :wiggle: Childern I do not recommend this.

Click here for a virtual tour of the mall and other areas of town. This link is killer! http://www.denvergov.org/panoramas/16thmall_web1.asp

There is one incredible view from the Capital steps let me tell you. If you come to town I recommend sitting here just before sunset. Great view of the Denver skyline and Rocky Mountains.

I now know why they choose this spot.

That concludes the tour. Bonus points to who can tell me who this guy is. I really don't know. I was too tired to read the plaque at this point. Anyone?

I'm sure one of our resident protestors like Slug probably hung out here once or twice.;)

WOW Denver sounds like a great place!!!!
Denver was a great place , way too much growth.... but even better place was Ft.Collins / Loveland /Greeley , but it has to much growth also ......
i couldnt live in Ft.Morgan ,too far east ... I realy didnt like the Springs and Pueblo , though I damn near moved to Canyon City .........
I left Colorado and moved to Wyoming , best move I ever made , Cheyenne is too big , Laramie to windy , so I moved to Casper , we got wind but nothing like whats on I-80 . But even Casper is growing , Soon I will stop running from big citys , but right now Riverton /Lander looks damn good .........

Aw, come on Spider! We've only got about 55-60,000 people here. It's not that big!

Soon, I see Spider and his family heading to a shack in Montana.

Check out Buffalo, old chap. Greatest town in the world...less than 4,000 people, right on the interstate, great schools, 5 minute drive to the Bighorns, Lake DeSmet is 6 miles away. I would move back there in a heartbeat if I could get a good-paying job.

I'm cool, my mom and most of my dad's family still live there, so I can get news and stuff from time to time. Thank you very much for the offer.

I promise, Spider, if you decide to raise your triplets there you won't be dissapointed.
