I just want to know who are the driver some of you cheer for. Since I just picked this up last year I didnt want to jump on board with the vets that already had alot of fans so I picked out Edwards, Kahne, and Newman to follow. Well I still like Kahne and Edwards but Newmans Bi*chin has pissed me off so now I dont care how he ends up. I also like that rookie Hamlin, anyone that can go from 1 to 40 and back to 1 you have to like.

This dislike list is the exacat same as mine. Earnhardt is on nuetral ground dont realy care if he wins or comes in last.

Since posting other drivers as well I use to like michael andretti but since he is retired (yes he is racing now but I still consider him retired) I will pull an Earnhardt and switch to his son.

Nobody saw it coming. I got lucky and saw most of the press conference yesterday on Speed ( I was waiting for Nascar this morning to start). I have to hand it to JP, he is one smart driver. One of the reporters asked him how it would feel to hangout in 30th place in every race next year and He said He almost expected to be there as he and the team will be new to Nascar. Meaning they are new to each other. I am not really a CGR fan but I like JP because he is very up front.

yes, he is, and with him one of the more entertaining character disappears from F1. I think it's good for NASCAR, it'll bring more international viewers (not that they really need it). I'm an avid F1 fan since 1984 and never really followed NASCAR. It's not that appealing to me (almost no tv coverage till now might have played a role in that) , but since this year all Nextel cup races are live on pay-tv here in Germany, and I watched the odd race here and there. I will pay more attention to it now, that's for sure.

I read the JPM thing a couple of days ago. I also read another F1 driver is considering it too. Can't remember the name though. Paul Tracy has been trying to break in here and there. I saw him in a Busch race the other day. He's always been one of my favorite drivers. His temper is legendary.

I'd hoped he'd come drive for a Hendrick team, but I think he's already signed on with Childress.

Patrick rumored to be interested in NASCAR
IRL driver's contract with Rahal-Letterman expires this year

Danica Patrick could be trying to find her way into a NASCAR ride, reports Ed Hinton of the Orlando Sentinel.

Patrick's father, T.J., who manages his daughter's career, was roaming the Nextel Cup garage area Sunday at Chicagoland during the USG Sheetrock 400, exploring the possible interest of teams and sponsors.

Inside the Numbers
Patrick's 2006 IRL stats

St. Petersburg 14 6

Indianapolis 10 8
Watkins Glen 16 8
Texas 14 12
Richmond 14 15
Kansas 12 11
Average 13.9 10.6

"I'm trying to get her here [into NASCAR]," T.J. Patrick told Hinton.

Danica Patrick, 24, exploded onto the Indy Racing League scene last year, nearly winning the Indianapolis 500 as a rookie driving for Rahal-Letterman Racing. But her contract with the team is up at the end of this season, and it appears she will not be returning to the team.

She reportedly is negotiating with other IRL teams as well as considering the possible jump to NASCAR.

T.J. Patrick and Danica's mother, Bev, were at Chicagoland on Sunday because "we've had some inquiries" from NASCAR teams, he told Hinton. They were guests of Roush Racing.

The possibility of the female driver coming to stock car racing comes on the heels of Sunday's announcement that Formula One driver Juan Pablo Montoya will drive the No. 42 Dodge next season for owner Chip Ganassi.

oh well, I beg to differ .. but let's not get into a pissing contest between different racing series... all have their different qualities and appeals.

I won't get into the pissing contest either, but I will say this: I think all series each have a different level of difficulty. I've read F1 drivers or any open wheelers that have said it's really tough to drive a stock car because it's so heavy and doesn't respond like what they're used to.

OTOH, I've read stock car drivers that have said open wheelers are hard to drive because they're light and flighty. Different strokes for different folks.

Every woman I've ever watched try to make a go at stock car racing has stunk it up. I don't like Danica at all. I think she's a snotty, stuck up little bitch. I also don't think she has what it takes to drive a stock car. I'd love to see her try and fail miserably though. ;D

Honestly, the only thing I ever cheer for women in at all....is drag racing. Don't know why, but that's how I've always felt about it. I think women's sports are booooorrring.

Yea I dont like stuff when it gets over hyped. I think she is a pretty good racer but give it a few more years and wait for a few wins before you make the switch. To me this is kinda like the M. Champ Car driver remains in intensive care after collision with deer at Road America

LOVELAND, Colo., Aug. 4, 2006, 3:20 pm EDT - Champ Car World Series driver Cristiano da Matta (#10 RuSPORT Ford-Cosworth / Lola / Bridgestone) is continuing to recover at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wisc. Da Matta collided with a deer that had run onto the track near Turn Six at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc., yesterday afternoon.

Dr. Chris Pinderski, Champ Car director of Medical Affairs, released the following statement from the hospital:

"Cristiano da Matta continues to recover from a serious head injury sustained yesterday during Champ Car Open Testing at Road America. He remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Theda Clark Memorial Hospital in Neenah, Wisconsin and is under close observation by the attending neurosurgeons."

Nope, didn't see it. Champ car coverage is pretty bad here. It's a pity, I'd rather see Champ Car than the IRL. I can probably watch it again in Sept. , I'm switching from digital cable to sat.

the death that hit me the most was Ayrton Senna, as he was the one who got me into motor racing at the age of 8! He was my idol.

Well, I have to admit, Tags behaviour was unprofessional.. you see that accidents so often, and even if your opponent is the clear culprit, you just walk away. About the puss thing.. if he had removed his helmet first, he would have been less of a puss, but more of an idiot ;D

WOW! Waht a F1 race..the last 3 laps broke my heart... I screamed at the screen for I don't know how many laps..change tires, change tires!!!

anyway.. great race!!

Driving in the rain is just the best!!!

Ok, I'm jealous now. You get to watch them on rain tires?! For years and years since I've watched racing, you hear about them slapping on the rain tires, and I have never, ever seen it happen in NASCAR.

They say they could possibly bring them out on a road course, which happens a whopping 2 times a year, but it's never even happened there. Of course, no way Jose on the ovals. I just want to see it once....on a stock car. :)

Sorry you had a bummer last 3 laps. My guy ran into trouble 9 laps in, but recovered well enough. Whew.

Well, I have to admit, Tags behaviour was unprofessional.. you see that accidents so often, and even if your opponent is the clear culprit, you just walk away. About the puss thing.. if he had removed his helmet first, he would have been less of a puss, but more of an idiot ;D

I think Paul got off a bit too easy with 7 points and three races on probation for his on-track action.

It's much cooler to be an idiot than a puss! Duh. ;)

I don't think he got off too easy. It was fair, IMO. Tagliani kept pushing it til he snapped. Shoulda let it go. The on track thing was really stupid of PT, I agree.

Good Lord, imagine if this would have been Tony Stewart, Tags would have been laying in the middle of the track after he'd barely gotten his first word out. ;D

Ha ha. They're thin skinned too. Actually that's odd, most of them can smack with the best of em. I used my generalization as a whole, so don't be too offended.

I just find it funny, this last month Jr sucked ass in every race and you haven't been here, but one good finish and here you are.

Gotta say, it's pretty pathetic you have to hang 'something' on not even winning a race.

Remember that warning I gave you some time ago? ;D It's come to pass.

yuppaa... as F1 doesn't race on ovals it has to be monsoon like rain to stop a race. some of the best races ever were in the rain.. for example Barcelona 96 comes to my mind. The differences between the cars (which are huge in F1) are usually negated, and pure driver skill becomes a more determing factor (one of the negative sides of F1 is that you really need a great car to be able to achieve something), the boys are seperated from the men. Usually Hungary is one of the most boring GPs of the year, because it's almost impossible to overtake there. but in the rain..damn..that was a great, great race. Add to that we have two competing tire brands, which behaved differently in changing conditions, for example my favorite driver was at one time 5-6 seconds slower than his competitor for the WDC and then again 5-6 seconds faster! Aboslutely awesome races, even when he had a DNF with three laps to go. Luckily one of the other drivers was disqualified afterwards for being 2 kilos too light , so he got one really important championship point, and his rival DNF when he lost a wheel LOL

Well, yes , for the off track action... he got fined money, as well as Tags..that's ok. But the on track should have been punished more.. just IMHO.

Hmm, and there's really not a lot I can say to counter "It's better..." LOL

But, if I want to see guys knocking their teeth in, I'll switch to boxing or MMA/ Though, now that I remember Sap 1998 when Schumi wanted to break DC in two.. I so hoped nobody would hold him back..that would have been hilarious.

LordHelmchen
09-16-2006, 10:22 AM
Cool stuff Mt :)

Yeah, it's a bummer.. though I expected it more or less. But I wanted him to drive one more year, alongside Kimi.. and I wanted him to drive one more time at Spa, as they didn't drive there the last few years but will again next season. The greatest track ever, also the first track he drove on, the track where he got his first win and the only track I've ever been to. I saw him win there 2001. It was awesome. As the last three races are China, Japan and Brazil I don't have a chance anymore to see him racing live.
For the first time since 84 I will be without a driver I'm really cheering for.

I like several drivers, but none of them will be able to replace him. I think I'll be on Kimi's side. And I will certainly support the remaining German drivers, especially Nico Rosberg and Nick Heidfeld and to a much lesser degree Ralf Schumacher. Sebastian Vettel, who was a BMW test driver the last two Fridays on racing weekends seems to have a lot of potential.
Nico will be my favorite though.

Next year will also be exciting as Lewis Hamilton , the new GP2 champion will probably enter F1 with McLaren Mercedes. An awesome talent.. add to that the first ever black driver in F1. Will he be the Tiger Woods (who actually said that Michael Schumacher is the best active athlete in the world :D ) of racing ?
Heikki Kovalainen is also a great talent, will race for Renault next year. What's up with those Finns? Racing talent seems to be in their genes.

And then Nelson Piquet Jr. should also enter F1 soon. He's the son of former 3 time champion Nelson Piquet. I didn't like his father, and I don't like him either. He will be my next driver to absolutely root against ;D Actually I think I could even start to hate him. Don't know why, but maybe because I have the impression that he's the ultimate spoiled brat.

I was pleased with the overall result of the first race in the Chase today. Jeff came home third. Unfortunately that ****er, Harvick won. Ugh. Oh well, we're starting out on a good note.

I´m not Schumi´s biggest fan, but he deserved a better ending to his career than this. He was leading the race when his engine blew up 16 laps before the end ... Alonso went on to win the race and how has a 10 point lead with 1 race to go. The only chance he still has is to win the Brazilian Grand Prix and hope Alonso doesn´t finish at all or doesn´t finish in the points ...

The first time I even heard of Ari Vatanen was in 1988. That is when a friend of mine started to drive using left foot braking. Can tell you it's saved me a few times. You mean like the last 5 or so? Jeff Burton has been almost non-existent til this year. :) He's moved up in my book because he doesn't seem to be such a whiner like he used to be. When he was in the hunt for a championship years ago, he would whine and cry about everything.

Obviously, Jeff is out, so of course I'd go with Jimmy for my next choice. But if JB should happen to pull it out, that'd be ok too.....as long as it is that supreme piece of **** teammate of his, Harvick.

The greatest racing career of all time is over. Schumacher yesterday finished fourth in his last Grand Prix. His chances to still pip Alonso for the title were slim, but they were shattered when Alonso´s team mate Fisichella (accidentally?) blew up Michael´s tire early in the race. He still managed to mount a comeback and finish fourth, but he wasn´t to win his 8th World Championship. Schumacher´s team mate Felipe Massa won the race.

ahne, in a classic case of role-reversal, pinched his No. 9 Dodge, which was running 10th at the time, up into the No. 40 Dodge of the rookie Stremme, heading into Turn 1 on Lap 247.

Stremme, running two laps down in the frontstretch high line, was wiped out of the race when Kahne inexplicably disregarded spotter and brother Kale's warning that Stremme was outside him -- and turned right anyway.

I'm a huge #9 fan (since the days of Bill Elliot) but on one hand I have to somewhat agree with you. He does seem to do dumb things, not just late in the season but also late in races. How many times has he crashed in the last few laps of a race? :Whaaaa!:

On the other hand, I do think it's waytoo early to talk about him being a choke artist. After all, it's only his third season and these last 9 races are the only ones he's run in the chase. If he makes the next few chases and finishes in the lower half each time then I think you're onto something, IMHO.
