I know I am opening myself up to ridicule with this but here goes. Went and saw Cinderella and Poison on their 20 Years of Rock Tour Friday night in St. Louis. Great show. I always wanted to see Cinderella when they were popular and never got the chance. As per usual, Poison was on and had a great set. Where did my leather pants and can of hair spray go?

I would have loved to go to that show. The 80s rule...^5

You guys need to read Chuck Klosterman's "Fargo Rock City" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0743406567/sr=8-4/qid=1150664974/ref=pd_bbs_4/102-4018832-9526535?%5Fencoding=UTF8). I don't like hair metal (most of it at least), but the book had me rolling on the floor I was laughing so hard. Not to mention it's one of the most intelligent music books I've ever read (take that Norton Anthology!).

I saw Cinderella with Bon Jovi in Denver in 87 or 88 at McNichols. Last best hair band concert I saw was Ozzy, Slaughter, and Ugly Kid Joe in St Louis in early 90's. I miss the 80's!!

I remember that, i actually missed that concert. I saw Ratt, Britny Fox, and Kix at McNichols in 88. My first actual concert was Stryper, Loudness, and TNT at Red Rocks. Oh, those were the days. lol

Little story to that concert. They were doing 2 shows on back to back nights.

My wife was a huge Bon Jovi fan and I was a huge Cinderella fan. I bought the tickets and my wife was really excited. Partied at home a little bit, then got to the parking lot and she started drinking Yukon Jack in the lot. When we got out of the car, she went straight to the ground and passed out. No way she could walk to the concert and make it. Got back in the car and drove home I was pissed. I carried her in and put her to bed and ripped the tickets up and threw them on the floor in little itty-bitty pieces.

Got up the next morning and she felt really bad. She actually cried and was upset all morning because we missed the concert. So I went and got a newspaper and found tickets for sale at a rip off price. I went to a pay phone, made a call and made arrangements to get tickets for the second night. I got the tickets, came home and surprised her with 2 more tickets. We went to the concert that night and she never had a drink the whole night. So, I basically paid for both nights but only saw one show but it was worth it. It was quite an experience. We've been married 23 years now and I'd do it for her again....

Just heard on the radio-kshe 95 out of St. Louis- that Motley Crue and Aerosmith are going out on the road together. I have never seen Aerosmith, but would like to. As for the Crue, saw them twice last year and they were unbelievably good, especially their Peoria, IL show-2 & 1/2 hrs of rock n' f'ing roll! I think its time to try and get some front row seats for this one.

if, by 'has it', you mean 'still can't play a lead break to save his life' or 'still sounds like a pimp from west philly and dresses like his own whore' then i'd concur.

cc's never 'had it' but i give props to poison for being one of the survivors of that genre.

Im not sure what you deem " as it " but when i saw Poison CC deville ripped it up. I didnt have much respect for him as a guitarist until i saw him live.

Good stuff.

Definately seeing Poison when they get to PA/NJ. Even moreso, I'm all-over that Crue show. I'll see them a couple times if they're in the area long enough. One of my favorite bands.

sorry, i guess the night i saw him was his one 'off night'. the guy was sloppy and did not rip it up. instead, he postured a lot and made every solo a chore. basic stuff like finishing a solo in the same key as the song, ya know? i've not seen anything like that before except one night when don dokken had to play lead because george lynch had fallen off the stage and injured himself.

youre also opening yourself up to people like me giving you a pat on the back for not caving into public perception and going to check out some good old fashioned rock and roll.

the hair band days certainly had their issues that are easy to make fun of (like the makeup that they THEMSELVES make fun of these days), but it was also the last of true rock and roll as far as im concerned.
grunge was just plain awful.

nirvana and pearl jam put an end to "real" rock and roll (my perception of it anyway), and i havent heard much of anything i like since.

Right on! I have seen Aersomith twice. They put on a good show. They are the best I have seen. Never saw Motley Crue, but would like too. Hopefully this tour will be in Denver. Aersmith was supposed to be in Denver a few months ago, but someone in the band got sick and they cancelled. I had tickets and everthing. I was pissed.

they dont make music like they used to.....unfortunately.

ps- where was this show?
i wonder if theyre coming to denver?

we saw poison and kiss a couple years ago in abq, and a few years before that caught def leppard (who sounded as good as ever), motley crue, and a show that had la guns, warrant, and ratt.
great stuff.

People make give me ****, but I can't help it my musical tastes never "evolved." I went through the grunge phase as well, but all the while still jammed the 80's stuff.

we could debate as we have many other times my friend, but in this case its much easier to just note that i said the END of good old fashioned rock and roll.
its also important to know that my definition of that term is VERY broad.

im encompassing everything from the very roots right through to the hair bands.
the blues rock, southern rock, psychedelic rock (my fave), folk rock, hard rock, punk rock, etc.
its ALL just plain rock and roll to me.

nirvana on the other hand is just.....

...i dont know.
something else.

something undefined, but something distinctly separate from the rest.
something not good.

just my .02

it wasnt in my 30's, and age has nothing to do with it.

most of the BEST rock n roll was done when i was just a youngin.

I listened to the "hair bands" (and still like some of it) in my late teens and early twenties, was disgusted by the "grunge movement" in my twenties and early thirties and have found much in the new rock music in the 5 years or so to appreciate. No, the end of rock 'n' roll did not end with my childhood. Neither did it die because of Kurt Kobain. It just went to sleep for the "grunge movement." ;D

The biggest problem with the hair bands wasn't the hair or the music, some of which was quite good. It was the cookie cutter also rans that cluttered up the scene for the last five or six years of the hair band era. Every two weeks Hollywood would crap out another one that sounded just like the last one, over and over, ad infinitum. The worst part is that some very good musicians got buried and forgotten.
