One of my best friends lives in Concord, a bit further north than Cornelius (I believe). Really nice, small town. Lowes Motor Speedway is there.

I used to live in a town called Lincolnton, it was about 60 miles north of Charlotte.....there was also a village called Denver in between, believe it or not.

Statesville & Hickory are great too if you wanna reside in that area....that's what I was most familiar with anyways.

I agree. The Cornelius or Birkdale areas around Lake Norman are the way to go.

I just moved to a house on Lake Norman in Troutman, which is north of there. It's a little bit farther from the action than I like, so I usually end up headin down to Cornelius.

I have been here for about two months now, It's a really nice place. Uptown (their version of Denver's LoDo) is pretty cool, nice and clean not as many homeless laying around like Denver has on the 16th street mall. People here are very nice, the girls are way easier to approach and talk to. There is a huge envy thing going on between the cities and the sports teams, folks that live in Charlotte could care less about the Hurricanes since the are in Raliegh, their football fans are very fair weather and Micheal Jordan just bought into the Bobcats here they are making a big deal about it but they still can't find anyone to sell naming rights to their arena. I haven't met anyone here who is a native yet, they are all transplants from West Virgina, DC, Ohio. Tons of Steeler fans, although I have got a few shout outs when I go out and wear my Bronco gear. I am kinda inbetween Lowe's motorspeedway and downtown, closer to UNCC, nice neighborhoods here houses are pretty cheap here compared to Denver and the outlaying burbs. Here a house in the 190's would run you around 230 in Denver, the Lake Normon area is really nice but you can tell you are in a different place (economic class), it is a pretty long drive to get downtown from there.
PS. Rednecks aplenty, NASCAR crap everywhere, thats a little hard to get used to. And you can only buy beer at the grocery store, for everything else you have to go to a state ran liquor store called ABC, kinda a pain in the a$$

yeah it's the truth, although out here it's like a scarlett letter, those kind don't "meld" with the rest of the herd very easily. You can spot out that group pretty easy and they don't really go into public much unless it's a NASCAR sponsered event, I think I discovered why they are into it so much...It's like Sam's Club or CostCo...When they had the big race out here a few weeks ago they shut down a downtown street for a whole week and called it Speed Street, beer, food, bands, all that state fair kinda stuff but all the drivers sponsers had tents set up...free samples, those rednecks were shopping!!

That's what I ran into. When I first arrived (to me) NASCAR was something that happened at Watkins Glen once a year.....it's the be all to end all there however and crammed down your throat at every turn. I left absolutely hating it.

No bars made it like you were in high school once again...seriously. Every Friday, someone would be coming up to me with the "Hey, so and so is having a keg party @ _____ tonight, you going?" I was in a dry county to boot but luckily I lived in the Co. seat (the only place that sold beer in the grocery stores and had the aformentioned ABC outlet) so it was a minor nuiscence instead of a major irritation.

Yeah, there are a lot of rednecks here; My office is in Mooresville where all of the Nascar race shops are. So you get a lot of that. They're nice people for the most part, though.

Now the rednecks in Jacksonville, FL, where I just moved from, thems fightin people.

What's up man. I moved to Charlotte, NC from Aurora, CO about 2yrs ago. I live in the University area I would compare it to the Parker area of Colorado, it's about a 20min ride to the South Park (Ballantyne) area from where I stay. If I had to compare the South Park (Ballantyne) area to somewhere in Colorado(metro area) I would compare it to Highlands Ranch area. As far as Charlotte and sports are concered, there are a lot of fair weather fans. The Panther fans only show their true colors if the team is winning, and if you think Jake has it bad in Denver, you have to hear how Charlotte talks about their own Jake (Delhomme) it's hilarious. And the Bobcats aren't even worth talking about, although you are likely to find some cute women at the games. Charlotte also host the CIAA basketball tournament which is the largest Div 1 or 2 tourament in the nation (lots of college girls). The ACC basketball tournament should be moving to Charlotte shortly as well. Places I would suggest you look into, the High Rise Apartments/Condos they are building in Uptown could be good investment since most of them are brand new or in the process of being built. The University area, and the South Park/Ballantyne area even though this area is a little more expensive to live. Stay away from the East Side of Charlotte, it's run down.

I have been to Charlotte and Concord many times. Lake Norman is unbelievable. Most of those nice houses on the lake are owned by nascar drivers, former nascar drivers, Carolina Panthers players, or former Panthers players. There are some just incredible. Completely glass 4 story place, unbelievable.
