The mother consented to her 15-year-old daughter's common-law marriage to a 38-year-old man? ??? In this state, the girl would have been under the age of consent and the guy would have been facing possible second-degree rape charges...

Common Law marriage is a bs way of trapping one person to another, what happened to living in sin until you're sure you want to make that commitment? You live in sin, and end up being forced into a divorce because of these stupid laws, and pay out the ass.

You sound like these common laws are something new. Did you bother to read the article? They've been around for hundreds of years.

There is a misconception about common law marriage. People don't get trapped into them by accident. You have to represent that you've been married, use the same name, file joint taxes and let the public know you are married to be considered a common law marriage. Simply living with someone and "shacking up" won't get you trapped. Having babies out of wedlock...well that will get you trapped.

Read about it here.....

Personally I don't think people should get married until they are atleast 25 or both consenting parties can prove that they aren't idiots.

This law is based on law that has been around for hundreds of years. I am not endorsing it but what is so surprising about it since its been around for so long. You're all acting like this is something new when it isn't. The judge just realized that an old law is still applicable in this case.

Back in the common law days in England, people got married much earlier in life.

They also refused to take baths, hanged witches and used leeches to suck the sickness out people.

It's a pretty long reach, like over the Atlantic and back in time several centuries to justify this ruling.

Let me get this straight. You have consenual sex with a girl under 16, it's statutory rape, but you can marry her? WTF. This is turning into the SF 9th Circut court in a hurry. We are 250 years from English "common law". Just because it's built off of English law doesn't mean it IS the law, only a fundamental starting point going back to colonial times. This is totally absurd and totally rehensible by the court, to push their own whacko agenda, once again legislating from the bench.

And I'm sure they'll start cranking out the babies, she won't get an education past HS if that and then the relationship doesn't work out and she's stuck with kids and needing government assistance since no education and having kids to take care of. This type stuff has become an epidemic anymore.

They also sewed on their cloths as winter came and cut them off in spring and summer and take their yearly bath..in June....hence a June wedding.
