View Full Version : Samuel Update

Hey everybody,
I just wanted to give an update to let you know how Samuel is doing. It was about two years ago when I asked for everybody’s thoughts and prayers. I still am very blessed to have people on this board asking and praying for Sam. It was at that time two years ago that doctors had basically told us to start preparing for Samuel's death. Today he is doing better than ever. He has nine teeth (they told us he probably wouldn't get any), he is off of a special formula and is on Pediasure and pureed table food, and he is gaining better head control. This fall he will begin attending school for special needs children. That was a difficult decision for us, because we wanted to make sure that he received the care that he was used to getting. We checked out the school multiple times to make sure it was what we wanted.
Thank you all once again for your thoughts and prayers, and here are some new photos.

I am very happy that things are going well. As a father I can understand and the fact that things improved this much touched me deeply. Almost made my eyes well up.

kinda like what they told us in birthing class.....everyone is preparing to go to a trip in france, but you end up going to holland instead.....while different it still has just as many pretty things to see and do, it's just different than Paris.

Falconer, I wasn't around here when your son was born. I must say that you have a beautiful little boy and I'm sure it took a lot of courage for you and your family to get through this. God bless you.
P.S. I have two little boys, 4 and 2 yrs old, and they are my life, as I am sure young Samuel is yours.

Funny thing is I am probably looking about as good as it gets, while this is about the worst my wife ever looks. I am still not sure how I ended up with her, but I keep the marriage license close at hand if she ever forgets. lol Actually the best thing about her is that her looks are not even her best qualities.

Great metaphor. To tell you the truth I am happier being in Holland than if I had made it to France, metaphorically and realistically speaking. ;D

Only when you are stupid enough to put your finger inside of his mouth...yes, I have been stupid enough.

Alright. You better watch your lad closely. From your initial post he's already given medical science the big FU.
And he's just getting started. Can you handle what this kid is capable of?
Great news man. Your initial post gave me chills.

Actually the best thing about her is that her looks are not even her best qualities.
That goes without saying, because it takes a special person to raise a child with needs...

I forgot to tell you all some pretty cool news that we received in April when we went to Samuel's neurologist. He grew two inches, and he gained two pounds from the previous year. The best thing though was that his head circumference grew two centimeters. This is cool because his head had not had any growth since he was about 4 months old. The only reason for head growth is that there has been some brain growth. I was pretty excited about what had been happening that day, and for the days to come.
Thanks for posting this Falconer,
It was easy to remember and send positive thoughts your way when Sam's pic was in Spiders sig...
Now you need to pick up the slack and post more!!
Pretty obvious to tell from the pics that Sam has been showered with love....

Cool Pics & Awesome Avatar!
My Cousin had a child that was not supposed to live beyond the 1st year & he lived to be 10 & was a inspiration to the whole family. Enjoy every minute with your wife & kids, people forget that even healthy people can get killed in a car wreck or something. We do not know how long we have here. A good day is a day is one where we made a positive impact on another persons life, sounds like you guys are doing that everyday!
Best wishes to you & the wife.
Steve
Great news Falconer! Keep up the great work and God Bless! Love that Avy too

As a father of a child born with birth defects (not near of the level of Samuel's though) I can understand why you are so happy with any developments no matter how small or insignificant they may be to you or others. People who have healthy children have no idea what parents of disabled children go through. God bless. Your family will always be in my prayers.
