I'm looking at a used car that has tinted windows. I've never had tinted windows.

It does get hot here in Colorado in the summer (99 degrees today) so they're probably functional. I just don't know if I like the look.

Tinted windows have a mafia/drug dealer flavor to me. I'd be interested in other thoughts and experiences. Bring it on.

I agree. Except they seem like poseur mafia drug dealer guys who have small penises and compensate with tinted windows and oversized sub-woofers.

I just got a used car for my mom that has dark rear tint and she doesn't like it. Any clue how to get it off without ruining the defroster?

They make a solution you can buy that removes the adhesive. Use that and a razor blade to very carefully take it off.

Personally I prefer tinted windows as they are functional. Nowadays just about everyone has tinted windows, so it doesn't have the "gangsta" look to it anymore. You need to be careful what cleaning products you use on tinted windows though (Windex is a no-no) because certain chemicals will turn the tint a purple color.

Those are the ones I'm talking about; the ghetto, purple bubble-ridden ones.

In the South, they are a must. I had to peel mine off to pass an inspection in DC a few years ago, though they didn't even check to make sure I did it. I wish I still had them. It makes a difference.

Just got mine tinted on Saturday. Went 30% in the front and 5% in the back. Unfortunately I wasn't specific on the rear window as it is 5% (Limo) as well. Not sure if it's legal here in Texas or not? Tell you what though, I was accustomed to getting into my car during the summer time and the thermo in the car read 140-165 degrees. Too freaking hot to even touch the steering wheel! So, dark tint, as dark as I could go was one of the best solutions... plus it makes the car look pretty kewl with the car being black as well.

If they're not illegal where you're at, then why not?

Otherwise, why tempt fate with the cops.....that's how I see it anyways.

Its great! Cooler car, great for the interior. That is, if its not the cheap $h!t.

I got my driver side and passenger side done on my truck 30% because of the law here in Montana. It defenitely makes a difference with the sun and also prevents people gawcking at you as they drive by!!

I like tint on vehicles, the look and the help with the weather...not a big fan of the clear tint, i'd just go with the regular black, besides that maybe blue if anythng else...

never had a car w/out limo all around, then again, i've had my front windshield tinted 35% before as well so my likes are more than likely different than ne1 on the mane
then again, you can see my taste if you look @ my cars: http://orangemane.com/BB/showthread.php?p=1130208#post1130208

My van has tinted windows... and the "prevention of gawking" facet is nice. With regular windows, there were times when young guys almost gave themselves whiplash staring at our daughters...

For a moment I thought you might live near Mock...but then I realized you said it was young guys...and we've never been led to believe your daughters are Mocks nieces.

LOL No... we're not related to Mock at all... and it's quite a distance from here to Iowa. :)

I have bigger problems like the freakin' dust bowl watching my crop wither.

First thing she said was she couldn't see, she's 76 so it comes down, I just don't want to ruin the defroster grid. Otherwise, I would leave it. I don't want her backing up over Ben. Ha! I might just have it done. Then I can biatch when they screw it up than blowing a cork at myself. I imagine summer is the best time to get it nice and hot first.

Two reasons to have them (1) as mentioned, your car won't bake like an oven in the summer and (2) your car won't be lit up from the rear like a police spotlight from driving in front of SUV's, trucks and other large/high vehicles at night.

It's brutal when people drive by or when they trun a corner and you are stopped at a light and they just stare at you. Praise the heavens for tint!

Yeah, the roads are much safer when the other drivers aren't "distracted" and can therefore concentrate on their driving. Ha!

As long as you're not in NYS you should tint them... These cops will pull your ass over and put the tint meter on your glass... $50 - $75 and you have to have it removed within 30 days!

I can not believe the ghetto and mafia comments about window tint. I live in SoCal, it gets real hot here. Not only does it keep the sun/heat out a bit it also blocks over 99% of the UV rays out as well.... which FADES your interior. Have had my last 5 or 6 cars tinted and will continue to do so as long as I drive. My rear windows are 5% (limo) and the side roll ups on the doors are 35%. Cops will not pull you over for it in LA, but will ticket you if you are pulled over with it. Just roll down your windows when you are pulled over and there is not a problem here.
