So i decided to play a game of Madden '06 tonight on XBOX Live. I'm a level 20, but i haven't played in a while so i am kinda rusty. Anyway, i'm using the Broncos as usual, and i'm going up against this level 26, who uses the Ravens. People who use the Ravens are usually tough because the Ravens defense is incredible on Madden, add to that he's a level twenty-freaking-six, add to that he's played LOTS of games. The game summary is below, but if you want to skip straight to my point, see the bold print at the bottom.
So, i win the toss, choose to kick (of course). He marches down the field, using the same two plays over and over. I finally manage to stop his little pass to Heap and he stalls at the 3 yard line. Field Goal, 3-0 Ravens
I then go 3 and out, as his defense smothers Lelie on a 3rd down pass that is usually money. Next posession, however, I (DW) takes a punt back to the 45
after some nifty moves. I stall at the 25, and settle for the field goal. 3-3
Next posession, i go back to a more traditional approach, and just run I-Form Blasts and Counters with Anderson and Bell. Some crucial catches by Lelie on 3rd downs and a QB sneak at the goal line make it 10-3 By the way, my defense is all over him.
Late 3rd quarter, i have just punted again, and things are looking bleak. I can't move on his defense anymore, and he is bound to break a long one at any time (it happens with RB's like Lewis who can break tackles at will). He lines up in a very familiar formation, and a lightbulb somewhere in my head turns on. "Short hook pass to Heap," the lightbulb says. So i switch over to Lynch and assign him to Heap. He's now being doubled by DW and Lynch. I set Lynch up a little closer to the line and then switch over to Al Wilson. The snap, and here comes the pass to Heap. Lynch lunges forward towards Heap and the tight end is cut off from the throw (could have been pass interference in real life, but this is Madden). The ball sails into the hands of Darrent Williams, who quickly secures it and takes off. After a key block by Al Wilson he's off to the races and it's obvious that no one will catch him. 17-3 Broncos
The third quarter has expired, it's now the 4th. We play 4 minute quarters here on XBOX Live, so it's doubtful that he will come back. Sensing this, and in a display of his true character, he pitches the ball to J. Lewis and then proceeds to run backwards into his own endzone for a safety.
I soon figured out why he did this... the game is pretty much decided, and he doesn't want to lose, so he refuses to kick the ball off. Since it's a SAFETY kickoff, he has no play clock, and XBOX Live won't boot him for delay for some reason, they also won't automatically kick it for him like if he had delayed on a regular kickoff. He has clearly done this before. So now, i basically have the choice of shutting off my xbox, where he will get to choose not to count the game, or i can wait... and wait.. and wait..
He has now delayed for 25 minutes.. which is why i came on here.. I'm not giving up this win.. no freaking way. Oh no way, here is the kickoff!
Okay so, i just rammed the ball down his throat and scored again, and with 10 seconds left in the game, he has given himself another safety. And here i sit... it's been another 10 minutes.. but i'm not shutting this off.. He sent me a message saying, "I'm going to stall you, i'm going out of town. Bye"
Who goes out of town on a saturday? he's gotta be bluffing... man, this guy has problems, and i'm thinking that i must too if i still haven't shut it off. I just had to get cocky i guess..
Has anyone had a similar experience online?
