View Full Version : Broncos Fan Fair: For little kids and Bandwagoners

Well the bandwagoners showed up at Fan Fair and it absolutely sucked. There was probably ten times as many people as their usually are. Right when I arrived I knew that there was trouble. The parking lot was absolutely slammed. Parking was free, so that was nice.

Anyway I walk in and get the pamphlet so i can see when all the Q & A's are going to be. There are two for the whole weekend, and the rookie one is on Sunday. So right off I'm upset.

then I walk to the line for pictures and it's inside the stadium already. It starts outside in the south stands like it always has, except there is a huge line now. Last year you waited twenty minutes for top flight players and two minutes for the guys nobody knows (But should like Hamilton). This huge line was for Tatum Bell and Socal's favorite, Ian Gold. I already had a picture of Tatum and everyone knows my experience with Gold, so I look to see if there is something else to do. There wasn't. It's all for the little kids. I'm ok with pandering to the kids, but this was ridicuous. Then I notice how long the line was and decided that by the time I got toward the front it would be time to change players anyway and maybe I'd get a good one.

So I jump in cattle line and started waiting. It's so funny how many bandwagon fans came. So many were hold-over's from the last Super Bowl season. I heard a lady say she wondered if Neil Smith was going to be doing pictures. Lots of Romo jerseys too. Speaking of Jersies I saw these two kids on the field playing around and they both had Cutler Jersies. Pretty crazy.

Anyway sitting in line this guy next to me starts yaking about the Broncos and his takes are pretty homerish. Guys, I met the Bronco version of Bob. Imagine that picture of Bob, sunglasses and all, in a Broncos uni. Same ridiculous claims too like Dumervil will lead the league in sacks this year, stuff like that. I almost took a picture but decided against it because I felt bad.

So fifty minutes later I get to the front of the line and sure enough the guys change. I'm hoping that I don't get PJ Alexander or something when on the Big screen the names pop up: Patrick Chukwurah and Champ Bailey.:militia:

So everyone jumps the other line and comes swarming into mine. Right before I get up to him I call my budy who is working in california right now, to get him on the phone. I go up to Bailey and ask him to speak with my friend since he couldn't be there and he laughed and said "ok". Then he hung up and he starts joking with me about what a weird day it's been and all this other stuff. I made a crack on the Chiefs and he busted up then the photo guy was yelling at us and snapped the picture. We were laughing when it was snapped so we look kind of weird but it was pretty cool:

http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/4025/picture0031br.jpg

After that I ran to the Q&A which featured Nick Ferguson Dominique Foxworth and Kyle Johnson. The wait for the Bailey picture took up almost the whole time but I was able to get the tail end of it.

Kyle did some impersonations again including a perfect Bill Cosby. 'Nique is really acting like a vet now. He would rib Kyle and Ferg quite a bit and had some really funny comments.

When asked which rookies were standing out they all said "Marshall." Again the answer was immediate. They didn't even look at each other to confer. They said he's really picking things up.

'Nique also said that Sceffler has some of the best hands. Kyle Johnson said Scheffler is going to be really good because his receiving skills are top notch. Ferg pointed out that Scheffler likes push off a lot (he said it with a taste of hostility) and so as a broncos tight end "he'll fit right in here."

They also talked a little about Cutler. Said Cutler looks really good and has some great tools.

I asked KJ why he doesn't dance anymore and he said that he only did once when they playe din Jersey since that's his hometown. He also pointed out that the one time he danced in the endzone that they lost. Shanahan gave him grief about dancing before the game was sewn up. Then Ferguson made a comment that the it's really because the league will arrest you if you try to have fun while you play football. Then Foxworth said that we'd all see Kyle Johnsons mug on America's most wanted this year "for doing his one-legged Bronco dance." :~ohyah!:

After that was all done, I left early. I'm hoping and praying that someone goes to the rookie Q&A tomorrow and gives us a reader's digest version of that. This one was so bad that unless they change things next year, I'll skip it in '07

Thanks for the report, Khan.

Did Nique remember you from your past experience with him at the food court?

Thanks for the report, Khan.

Did Nique remember you from your past experience with him at the food court? Yeah. I keep seeing him. We talked at the Quarterback club event recently. He gave me a nod at the fan fair today.

Cool post and I'm like you, can't stand bandwagon hoppers.

That lady, when she mentioned Neil Smith, maybe she can holla for Alfred Williams while she's at it.

I actually don't mind new fans. I just don't like the ones that have been absent in their devotion for several years and then show up suddenly when the team gets hot and pretend that they've been there the whole time. If you're new and don't know a lot, then ask questions and try and learn.

I couldn't agree more. If you're a fan you stick with the team through the good and bad times. If you just jump on when they are doing good then don't go calling yourself a fan of that team.

Great report Kaylore, hope the constant praise of Marshall, Scheffler,Cutler shows on the field where it all matters. If it does then we can be looking at a very bright future.

Yeah, I noticed that. I had a white sideline hat on and it bled into the Bronco background. Oh well.

I figured that out after the first one. Good idea, but really not worth going to.

It must of pained you greatly...oh yes...to stand in a line Khan...I'm sure you also wanted the kiddies who cut in front of you to pay dearly...Ha!

I see some good chemistry on this team, now and into the future.

I've had a number of people ask me if Champ was a jerk. Apparently some haven't had a great time with him. For my part he was kind, obliging given I shoved my cell phone into his face and made him talk to my friend, and had a good sense of humor. So no; Champ was not rude.

Disco mentioned that if someone has a possitive experience no one hears about it and if someone has a negative experience everyone hears about it.

For the record, when I met Champ he was one of the coolest Broncos I have ever met.

I was totally turned off of the fan fair last year, it isn't marketed right. They should really promote the "kid" aspect of it. I would have loved it if I was 8-10 years old. I hope training camp isn't going to be a fiasco this year. I have heard and seen the good and bad of Champ, no big deal I guess. For every bad experience I have had with a player I have had a positive one too.

Not to mention, these guys (especially the big names) have to deal with people constantly. Eventually someone will catch you in a bad mood, they're human after all.

Maybe it is just me, but I thought that from the very begining the Fan Fair was a Kids' event. Whilst there may be some adults there, they were mostly, I thought, parents who were just feeding the Kids' needs for hero worship.

Us adults don't need no stinking Fan Fair to do our worshiping. We are more sophisticated and quite capable of reacting to the athletes as human beings and guys who are just good athletes but mainly just good guys.

Oh, well. Sorry you were disppointed, but it is a Kids' event and is done for charity. Broncos don't need to sell tickets, ya know?

The Chiefs had an open mini camp practice in Arrowhead that was very enjoyable. 14k showed up for the event.

Sounds like something I would have loved to attended as a kid. Heck, the only cool Bronco I ever got to meet as a teenager was Gary Kubiak in Loveland when he came as a special guest of some car dealership. But, it left a lasting memory and I've always been a fan of the guy ever since. Meeting with the kids out there sounds like a great way to branch out...

...unlike training camp where they are getting closer and closer to alienating all but the real hardcore fan base. Bastards!

Thanks for the update Khaaaaaan! Good luck at the rookie meet and greet.

What do you expect of a boy that lives in his parents basement & has no idea of reality. It is the Sump pump keeping him up all hours & depriving him of sleep causing the poor choice of words.

BTW it is either root for Samie or root for Crap, Literally!
