Van Halen's reunion is "inevitable", former frontman David Lee Roth has claimed.

The singer who hasn't seen ex-bandmate Eddie Van Halen for years says they have been talking again and their management are involved in putting the group back together.

He said: "I see it absolutely as an inevitability. It would be very simple to put together. I definitely see it happening." advertisement

Roth was recently sacked from his job working as a DJ for CBS Radio following disappointing ratings. He is now concentrating on reuniting the original line-up of the legendary 80s US rock band.

The singer was the frontman for Van Halen from 1974 to 1985. He left in 1985 following a war of words with guitarist Eddie Van Halen.

Subsequent attempts to reunite the group have not been successful.

Roth is planning to tour this summer performing Van Halen hits.

He said: "I'm so proud of that music. The demand is amazing."

This would be cool for anyone over 40 who never got to see the original lineup! I'd be there no doubt. Roth is old and bald, but still does the flying splits with relative ease.

They are too old now not that that has stopped anyone before. Roth was the man back in the original VH days, when he left the band VH died.

yeah
I doubt it will happen
Eddie and Alex can't stand David Lee Roth.....they are all arrogant pricks though
so who knows

I suppose money could be the key issue.....and whether or not David Lee Roth can keep his ego in check for about 6 months while they tour

I'd go see them though

Van Halen ruled back in the day, and I got more than a buzz or two (thousand) on listening to them. Van Hagar sucks.

Dave killed his chance years ago. When they released the first " Best of " and did that song Me Wise Magic i thought they were going to hit it off again. But after the embarrassment at the video awards the rest of VH decided that was enough and not to travel that road again.

Based on the thread title...I was hoping it was the Gary Cherone incarnation of Van Halen

Because, you know, it went so well last time they reunited. At this point, after Eddie's cancer and his growing primadonna attitude, and Dave's arrogance, I've stopped caring.
They've got about as remote a chance of reuniting as Roger and the Floyd. Tis a shame...

As much as I loved the real (original) Van Halen, I couldn't care less about them reuniting. It's a disaster waiting to happen, and there really isn't much point to it. BTW, is Michael Anthony one of the biggest gravy-trainers of all time, or what?

It's not that I need every band's concert sound to imitate the record, but David Lee Roth's voice in particular gets on my nerves when unchecked. However, I'm glad they can count on people like you to support them...

They shot part of the Panama video that night.

I LOVED Humans Being, the song they (with Sammy Hagar) recorded for the movie Twister.

Are you kidding me? Any true Van Halen fan knows that Michael Anthony is the glue that keeps that band tight when they play. I have been to many a Van Halen or Van Haggar concert and with out Anthony’s vocals, you would not have that Van Halen sound.

I have been a Van Halen fan from day one, and I have to say when they were Van Haggar they are at their best ‘Musically’.

If this reunion was back in the day, then I give Roth the nod for showmanship. But have you seen Roth perform lately?

He takes more breaks to catch his breath, it is sad to see him lean against something as the guitar riff is being played so he can compose himself, used to be he would interact with the crowd at this time.

We are all getting older, but the time for Van Halen to re-group as it’s original self is long past.

Yeah VH 1 was one of those ground breakers where every song gave you hooks and riffs galore. I remember the guitar parts of You Really Got Me, Feel Your Love Tonight, On Fire and many more giving me goosebumps. That record deserves mega accolades.

VH II, Women and Children First and Fair Warning were all great too. But they pissed alot of people off w/ Diver Down, a record with only 27 minutes of product, of which most was cover tunes and instrumentals. Bad move.

I remember when Aerosmith reformed in 1984 w/ Joe Perry and Brad Whitford. They toured and then announced that VH producer Ted Templeman was signed on as the Producer of the upcoming Aerosmith record.

They recorded and released "Done With Mirrors" in 1985, but the record missed badly. Had two Aerosmith classics "Let the Music Do The Talking" and "My Fist Your Face" but the rest of the record was just simple studio jams basically.

I always have wondered if Templeman was able to spin more magic, and get some 70's era success out of Aerosmith, would they have wussed so badly on subsequent records??

Because the reunion record bombed so badly, they brought in the "Bruce Fairbarn pop rock machine" and Aerosmith as we knew them, were done.

I can't imagine what DLR is thinking.

I went to one of the reunion shows with Haggar 2 years ago and Eddie sounded like crap.

I've been a life-long VH fan -- Roth, Haggar, and even Cherone.

That reunion show was a pretty big deal for me -- drove 4 hours to see it -- and I was majorly disappointed with Eddie's playing.

He slopped up a lot of classics by trying to add the "avante garde" style he used on the "Best Of" Roth tunes and "III" Cherone tunes....it totally didn't work on the old stuff.

For his solo I was hoping for something along the lines of "316" from "Live: Right Here, Right Now" but instead got treated to a sonic trainwreck that ended with him (indeed looking like a corpse) writhing around on his back on stage.

His tone was crap too -- no more "brown" sound just a muddy mess with WAY too many effects.

And, at that show, Sammy came across as a total cheesball. He was dressed in a solid yellow jumpsuit with Reef sandels...and he writhed around on his back on stage several times too.

I will say this though....when the house lights went dark, Sammy give his signature "Hellllloooo Baby" yell, and the opening riff of "Jump" kicked off it did send a chill down my spine.

What was the name of the 80's movie that had the entire score done by Eddie Van Halen? I know alot of those instrumentals went on to become songs on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album.

They released the Pretty Woman/Dancing in the Streets single to hold people over. It proceeded to go #1 and Warner Bros told them to hurry up and put out another album. They pretty much put out an album a year back then.

Incidently, a lot of those songs date back to before they were signed. I have the demo tapes from 1978 and "Beautiful Girls" "In a Simple Rhyme", "Hang Em High" and "House of Pain" were on there. The Car Horn sound at the beginning of Running with the Devil is actually used as the fade out of "House of Pain"

Yeah, but the difference is that The Eagles can still pull off a solid live show.

It also doesn't hurt that the style of music they play doesn't require a lot of leaping around and pretending you're still 20 years old. :D

That's a shame.

The last time I saw the band was back in the Hagar era - I believe it was the "OU812" tour - and I wasn't all that impressed with Eddie or anyone else.

Of course, by that time, Eddie had sort of lost his position as top gun - there were just too many Steve Vais and Yngwie Malmsteens and Eric Johnsons passing him by.

BTW, here's another trivia question for you hardcore VH fans:

When Roth split, who was Ed's first choice to replace him? (It wasn't Sammy.)
