View Full Version : Top 50 players..........CBS Sportsline
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9469847
1. Peyton Manning, QB, Colts: A lot of people will argue with this choice, but his remains the most important position. When he finally does win a Super Bowl, he will finally get his due.
2. Tom Brady, QB, Patriots: He had an amazing season in 2005, carrying and offense without a running attack. He is right up there with Manning, just a smidge under him in the ratings.
3. LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, Chargers: This is the game's best back and he's an MVP candidate every season. He will be forced to do more now that Drew Brees is gone. Here's hoping they don't beat him up.
4. Champ Bailey, CB, Broncos: There is no better cover corner in the league. He can take away the other team's best receiver. Don't believe the nonsense that he isn't the best at his position. And his position has a premium value to it.
5. Carson Palmer, QB, Bengals: He's coming off knee surgery, which is a concern, but he has made big strides in his recovery. He had an amazing season in 2005 and we can expect many more.

Clinton Portis ahead of Shaun Alexander and Tiki Barber? Ray Lewis in the top 10? Steven Jackson in the top 50?

Yup, its official. The offseason has become a full-blown boredomfest over at Sportsline. I cant wait til they come out with a lame top 50 assistant coaches list

can't wait to see Peyton try to happy-feet his way out of trouble this year. There is a magnitude of homers rooting for the potato-head.....funniest one so far is Don Banks. He's got Peyton winning the superbowl, because of a kicker. Nevermind that Vanderpimp probably had a better figgie percentage than Vinatieri. James is apparently easily replaceable by a rookie.

Not sure Vick even makes the list... First year or two I was impressed and thought once he had a chance to "hone" his game he'd be amazing. He's still got some great skills but they don't all come together into a great package. I can't put him in the list.
Moss at 7 is questionable as well... First of all - on sheer talent and the impact they have had for their respective teams you have to give the nod to TO (unless you are subtracting for all the off the field stuff - which is legit). But TO has been far more impactful then Moss.
Was Brett Farve a sympathy pick at this point in his career? (That's my thinking)... Probably still a top 10-12 QB but top 50 players in the league? used to be - yes, still - no...

This list is more or less meaningless. The game in the NFL is totally relative... how each offense and defense every Sunday stack up against each other on a position-to-position basis. Against certain teams you could put Jake or Vick in the top 50, but against other Ds they come up miserably short. Can't wait till the season starts.

at this point I would rather have both Fitzgerald and Boldin over Harrison.

And to think of how reticent I was initially about the Portis trade.

I'm not even going to comment on that list, I just find it funny how whenever there is no story going on the so called journalists always just make up a list.
Here's another one. Most feared sluggers in baseball:

I don't know how they came up with this order and some of these guys in their top 10

Maybe I'll get bored enough to make my own top 50 list. I'm sure you would all kill me as badly as you have Prisco.
Here's my top seven:
1 - LaDanian Tomlinson RB
2 - Tom Brady QB
3 - Richard Seymour DE
4 - Brian Urlacher MLB
5 - Champ Bailey CB
6 - Marcus Stroud DT
7 - Torry Holt WR

My rough draft for the top 50 is shaky, though. I have Bubby Brister coming off a five day drunk at #43.

Bump Shaun Alexander in place of Torry Holt IMO. Great start to a real list Slappy. Screw Prisco's hack list!

Hmm, I actually think I have Torry too low. You could make a good case for him at number three.

Didn't Champ seem to make huge game - or even season - changing plays at the biggest moments? At the beginning of the year against San Diego? In the playoffs against Brady?
