We have all seen "The Dive" by Elway and Jeremiah Castille's strip and fumble recovery a thousand times. This is regular season only.

1) Elway against Seattle. Nobody blocked the linebacker on a blitz. Elway ducked and hit Sharpe in stride for a 60 yard TD

2)Against Seattle again. TD goes over 2,000

3)Comeback against KC in 98. Sharpe TD catch

4)Rod Smith's first catch

5) Louis Wright blocked FG return in overtime against SD in 85

Of course there are many others. Atwater killing Okoye. Snowball against San Francisco to name a few. Post your top five.

1 - Rod's game winner against Washington. Reception #1 of 797 and counting.

2 - Sewell hits Elway with a 23 yard TD pass against the Raiders on opening day.

3 - Dennis Smith knocking 245 pound fullback Pete Johnson unconscious against Cincinnatti.

4 - The game winning touchdown catch against Minnesota that ping ponged around crazily before settling into Eddie Mac's soft hands.

5 - Two touchdowns against KC in the final minute and a half. When Vance caught the game winner, my buddy ran out of the condo and jumped into the swimming pool. It was November and about 40 degrees at the time.

TD runs for a good 150 yards and two TDs on back-to-back plays against the Cowboys. If he had played the entire game he might have broken the single game record.

Another one to throw out there. Rod catches his 100th reception against San Fran in 2000 making him and Ed having both at least 100 receptions for the year.

What about the Elway "TOSS" when he is fall backwards out of bounds, persued, off ONE leg, ALL-ARM throws a strike Across the entire field, some 40 yards down the field... Off one leg, folks... All ARM... Across the entire field... Really Un-Freaking-Believable...

I think the defense had let Mark Jackson go, Because Nobody could make that throw... Not even ELWAY... Well, they were WRONG...

That throwing back across his body stuff wasn't always a good thing. I remember one year, last pre season game, Elway ran right and threw back across the field some ungodly distance. Theisman is up in the booth jabbering in awed amazement. The next thing you know, John is on the sideline with ice on his shoulder. He didn't miss any games, but it turned out to be a bad year.

Jim High Tops Turner ambling in for a TD against Oakland.

Mecklenberg's HIT on Marcus Allen.

Floyd Little's last game. He said - run that play again and I'm taking it to the house. They did and he did.

Seeing Mike Anderson set the rookie rushing record in New Orleans.

Seeing Shannon Sharpe set the tight end receiving record in Kansas City.

I think that's how he Pulled his Bicep that one year. But, of course, that didn't seem to be such a big deal... What did Elway say... He though he could throw the ball HARDER after he pulled his Bicep...

Though, later in his career those things could bother him more. Earlier in his career he was a Mad-Man throwing the ball across the field...

1. Atwater killing Okoye on MNF.

2. Elway completing that super long pass against KC, in the early 90's. I think they said that the ball traveled something like 72 yards in the air. Elway threw it from the right side of the field to the left side of the field, about 50 yards downfield.

3. Rod's first catch.

4. Elams record tying 63 yard FG.

5. Jamal Lewis breaking Corey Dillion's single game rushing record.

3. 1979 , well it was a game , but what a game it was , 2 nd half vs Seattle Morton comes in leads us to a win from 24 points down .......
4. DS49 rupturing Caspars spleen what a hit from hell ......
5. Matt Robinson spiking the Ball back into the Tooz face .............

The Broncos played at Dallas in either '94 or '95. Back when the Cowboys were rolling over everybody. The game was out of hand at that point, in the Cowboys favor.

Elway bootlegs right. On the left side of the play Anthony Miller runs a post corner. So the CB doesn't cover him. I couldn't imagine any CB covering a WR who runs a post corner the opposite way the QB is rolling to. Elway, from the right side of the field, throws all the way back across the field, and a good 50 yards down field, to a wide open Miller. And he hits him in stride.

If that play didn't happen, nobody would think that it would even be possible to complete that pass. People would call a QB stupid for even trying it. They'd call the coach stupid for even drawing the play up.

Lets see the great Joe Montana or Dan Marino do that.

I don't remember which year, sometime in the late 90s though. I dont remember who Denver was playing but Rod Smith caught a 40-60 yard pass down the sideline, blanketed by a cornerback. I mean, really tight coverage. Rod was out of position sorta and his body was twisted the wrong way yet somehow, he gets his right arm out and pulls the ball in, gets both feet down in bounds for a completed catch. By far, the single most amazing catch I have ever witnessed. One handed, twisted in the wrong direction, blanketed by a defender and on the sidelines yet still made it.

The Atwater-Okoye hit is legend of course.

The first post brought up a wonderfully rare play. Louis Wright returning a block FG attempt in OT.

Whats odd about that, the FG was blocked once before on the play right before but a penalty was called on our defense so they got another chance to give us the game. Louis Wright proceeds to pick the ball up and rumble down the field for a TD leaping into the stands as he does. Game over.

'99, against the Packers at Mile High. McCaffrey catches a long pass, near the 10 yard line. The CB is right there to make the tackle, and has Ed pinned against the sideline. Ed isn't about to juke anybody, and he doesn't have enough momentum to run the guy over. So he gives the CB a nasty stiff arm. Right to the face. Then he runs the guy, but the face, for 10 yards into the endzone. Totally punked the guy.

2)Against Seattle again. TD goes over 2,000

3)Comeback against KC in 98. Sharpe TD catch

Those are all classic.

4 - The game winning touchdown catch against Minnesota that ping ponged around crazily before settling into Eddie Mac's soft hands.

I remember watching that play and being shocked he made the catch, but now it irritates me, considering the season ended so poorly, as if maybe we weren't that good, but lucky plays like that got us the amazing record, home field, etc.

Gotta include Elam's record-tying 63 yard field goal against the Jags, don't ya? Come on. Show Elam some love!

Good call, that was damn cool.

As for regular season plays I remember, these ones come to mind right now:

-OT against the Raiders, I think it was Byron Chamberlin, caught a long TD pass to win the game. Maybe it sticks out because it was the Raiders.

-Against the Cowboys, the Broncos did a flea flicker play that went for a long touchdown. Now, flea flickers are nothing special, but I was like 8 or 9 at the time, and it was like the coolest play ever to me then.

-Tatum Bell's TD's against the 'Skins this year. Blame it on the slippery field or whatever, but those were cool.

Gradishar stuffing Billy Sims over the top on 4th and nothing.
Gradishar stuffing Steve Bartkowski (I believe) over the top on a 4th and nothing.
Dline clogging the middle and Randy had incredible timing. Sims was just terrific at going over the top for 4th and 1s.
Atlanta's offense was very good at the time. It was 4th and less than a yard, and Randy was moving just as the ball was snapped. He went over the center and horsecollared Bartkowski for a loss.

1. Elways bomb against Seattle, where he ducked and and threw a touchdown for like 50 yards

2. Atwater hit on "the nigererian nightmare"

3. Al Wilson's hit on Wheatly during the sunday night game in the snow to stop the Raiders on 4th and 1.

4. Rod's first catch

5. Rods 80 yarder against the raiders in the snow on sunday night football.

6. Rod vs the falcons 2 years ago. had like 200 yards. too many plays to remember, but had a few long ones.

7. ED's catch against Minnisota where the ball was bouncing off the hand of everybody and he get's the TD.

8. Elams 63 yarder

9. Plummers long run against the raiders on MNF. was longest run by a denver qb ever.

10. Mike Andersons run against the colts in preseason. I don't care it was preseason. it was like a 98 yarder and was freakin awsome.

11. Champ Baily's Int in New orleans in the End zone. that was bad ass.

12. champ baily's int/td against the chargers this year.

13 Champ's int against the giants.

14. Rod's TD catch against Pittsburgh like three years ago in Mile High.

15. TD getting his 2000 yards

16. Elways 300th TD.

17. Sharpe's TD catch in 98 vs the cheifs. I belive rod had a sick catch that game too if I recall. so this one goes to sharpe and Rod

18. Stephan alexanders one handed grab for a TD agains the Eagles this year.

19. In 98 alfred williams got a TD. it was awsome.

20. Last but not least, any catch McCafferey caught and then got absolutely drilled and still holding on to the ball. after those catches he made you think it's the greatest catch of all time. McCafferey rules.

Not only did he block the FG but he blocked the FG attempt two times in a row!! The firstd time he did it Denver was offsides. So SD lines up to kick a shorter FG and Louie blocks it and Dennis Smith runs it in for a TD,

My favorite play was a 1987 game Denver VS Chicago it was on Monday night the same day a continental jet crashed at Denver airport. Elway played awesome that game.

ONe play he had was where he was deep in the pocket Dent came hard from his bl;ind side somehow Elway saw him spun away from him and sprinted towards the sideline he then double backed and headed back towards the middle of the field and threw a bullet to Kay about 20 yards down field.

That one was brutal alright. After the game someone asked Potts about the hit...he tried to play it off as if it wasn't that big. One of his teammates in the background said "Why'd you walk over to their (Donks) sideline then?"

The Kahuna also laid a vicious hit on Thurman Thomas in which both players were out cold.

One of my personal favorites is Terrell Davis' 65 yard run in the 2nd quarter of a week 4 showdown in Arrowhead of 1996. I thought that run was TD's coming out party in terms of league wide exposure.

I also loved when Rod Smith lined up in the backfield, took an outside toss and cut it back for a 50 yard touchdown run in a 38-31 Broncos shootout victory against the Seahawks at Husky Stadium in 2000.

No need to kill! I have a copy of that. It's great. Red Miller was pissed at Morton for some reason and benched him that day. After the Seahags went up 34-10 in the 3rd quarter, Red decided it was time for a change. Morton didn't even want to go in, but was instantly en fuego. Threw 3 TD passes (Studdard, Moses, Upchurch) in 1:19. It was insane. Rob Lytle scored the winning TD in the 4th quarter, ran through the end zone and gave the ball to Bob Peck (director of media relations), who was dying of brain cancer. Classic Bronco game.

-'83 Broncos losing 0-19 to the Baltimore Colts in the 4th quarter. Rookie Elway throws 3 TD passes on 3 consecutive drives to complete the first Unbelievable Comeback of his NFL career, 21-19. The first TD to Clint Sampson shouldn't have counted (one foot in bounds), but what a game nonetheless. The game-winning TD was a 4th down pass to Gerald Willhite, who celebrated with a patented back flip. Mile High was freakin'. I also remember it as the only time I had seen my father jump up and down like a little girl.

-'84 Broncos vs Patriots at Mile High. Game tied at 19 in the 4th quarter, Pats driving, Mosi Tatupu fumbles, Dennis Smith scoops it and takes it about 65 yards for the game winner. I was at that game. Unbelievable.

-'84 MNF snow bowl vs GB

-I'd also have to go with the '92 Chiefs comeback game. People were heading home. I could just see it coming. When Elway is playing, you never, never, leave the game early.

Also, just to clarify, the '85 game in which Louis Wright returned the (second) blocked FG in OT, the first blocked FG wasn't discounted because of a penalty, someone on the team called time out an instant before the ball was snapped. That's one of the most bizarre finishes to a sporting event that I have ever seen. I was losing my mind. Louis ran through the end zone, threw the ball into the stands, and threw himself halfway in.

(going purely off memory, here...)

This was my favorite regular season play ever. The other was Louis Wrights FG Block return. Anyone remember the guy who blocked it? He actually blocked 2 kicks in a row, but the first one they said he as off-sides. I think his last name was "Robinson" but for some reason I can't remember his first name. He was the real stud on that play, although Louis Wright is one of my favorite Broncos of all time.

Was that the day Sharpe went for like 10+ receptions and 200+ yards at Camarohead?

Game over.

I'm not one for hyperbole, but Ashley Lelie's twisting catch vs. Buffalo last season is the single most AMAZING catch I've ever seen. I don't know why he doesn't get more recognition for it. That was an impossible ball and when I saw the replays, I couldn't believe what I'd just saw.

I know a lot of folks are pissed at Ashley right now, but you have to give him props for that one.

I remember...

Those are all classic.

I remember watching that play and being shocked he made the catch, but now it irritates me, considering the season ended so poorly, as if maybe we weren't that good, but lucky plays like that got us the amazing record, home field, etc.

How about the last game at Mile High? I was there, I actually cried...It was supposedly Jerry Rice's "last game" too...LOL. Anyone else remember that?

Its not a top 5 play or anything but it got me real pumped watching it. Al Wilson stopping Wheatley on 4th down I think it was in the first qtr against the Raiders in the Sunday Night game a couple seasons ago.

The response from the announcer (It was one of the Sunday Night turds) was "that's why the teach you not to leave your feet on short yardage plays"...AWils absolutely tatooed Wheatley. And Wheatley has to be around 240...

There were two plays involving TD during that 98 season - though neither plays are memorable only for TD ...

HOW MANY REMEMBER THESE PLAYS?

1. MNF @ KC ... Home field was sewn up, and Elway was sitting it out. The Chefs were yapping all week about "stopping TD cold!" Crazy s*** like that. The Chef Dee was SO hyped for that game. Broncos' first play from scrimmage @ their own 45 ... looks like a sweep left, Brister tosses to TD - BUT WAIT! Brister keeps the ball on a naked bootleg, and goes 55 yards for the touchdown - on the first play from scrimmage! Talk about "biting on the fake." I never saw a worse case of it than the Chef Dee on that play.

2. At Seattle, late in the year. Late third quarter, Seahawks trail by maybe 9, and they're hoping to get back in the game. The Broncos have 3rd and long at about midfield, with Seattle thinking stop and get the ball back. Well, no such luck ... TD around the left side and up the sideline in fronty of the Seahawks bench. As he passes the coaches, we see an assistant throw his clipboard straight up in the air about 20 feet like, "there goes the ballgame."

Great stuff Slap, but it was some stiff named Bill Johnson that DS nailed. Bill Johnson played HS ball near me in upstate NY and actually played for the Denver Gold, I believe as well.

Gradishar stuffing Steve Bartkowski (I believe) over the top on a 4th and nothing. Atlanta's offense was very good at the time. It was 4th and less than a yard, and Randy was moving just as the ball was snapped. He went over the center and horsecollared Bartkowski for a loss.

Maybe the greatest Defensive play I've ever seen and it wouldn't surprise me coming from Randy. His 1982 short yardage stuff of Bartkowski is an all time NFL classic.

That's right, Bill Johnson. He laid that dude out cold.

Cincinnatti did the AFC West a big favor regarding Pete Johnson. While already in the process of eating himself out of the League (and fresh off a cocaine suspension), Pete became disgruntled over his contract and forced a trade to San Diego. He only lasted one year in San Diego and washed out of the NFL. Meanwhile, Robert Brooks, the former first round pick San Diego traded straight up for Johnson, went on to play eight seasons for the Bengals, appearing in four Pro Bowls.

Its hilarious how stupid the Spanos family has been over the decades.

That's the only game at Mile High I've ever been too. Knowing that it was the final game, I had to go. Spent $200 a ticket to sit in the lower level. It was great. The entire crowd stayed a good hour after the game. It was cool when everybody chanted "Jerry, Jerry, Jerry" for Rice. Most people knew it wasn't his final game as a pro, just his final game as a Niner. If we had known he'd go play for the Raiders, I think we would have all booed him. My brother is a Niner fan, and a huge Rice fan. Rice autographed his Jerry Rice jersey. He has it framed now.

It was a great game. Kicked the crap out of the Niners. It should have been a shutout, but the refs gave T-Buck a bogus PI penalty when he jumped over Rice to get a pick. That led to the Niners score late in the game.

The only downer was on our way back to the hotel. I wanted to take a piece of Mile High home with me, so I grabbed one of those large orange trash cans. My brother thought I was nuts. We were walking down the street with it, trying to find a cab. Then some off duty rent-a-cops pulled up to us on their way home and made us drop it. Why? Who the hell knows. Why did they care? Funny that their truck have the heavy scent of weed. Hopefully they got busted that night.

This is probably my favorite one, I was rubbing my eyes in shock. He didn't just break that tackle, he PLANTED that guy into ground, poured some water on him, and causally cruised into the endzone after making sure the would be tackler was comfortable and getting enough sun.

I photo shopped it and made Eddie's arms triple sized after that play.

Also also loved when Atwater and Dennis Smith took turns knocking Natrone Means dizzy and after the second shot, out of the game. He got up punch drunk, almost fell down, tried to stay in, and for some reason they unmercifully called his number again. He could have been killed.

1) Louis Wright runs back a blocked field goal after a previous blocked field goal run back was called dead due to a time out. I'll never forget that moment.

2) McCaffrey Magic against Minnesota. The ball takes some funny bounces. I still get a thrill when I remember how my heart fluttered with every bounce that ball took before McCaffrey delivered it home.

3) Jason Elam lines up for a 62 yard feild goal to a booing crowd that wanted to see Elway throw a bomb to Rod or McCaffrey to close out the quarter... That was, until the announcer let the crowd know the historic impact of the moment, and the place got dead quiet. So glad I was at that one.

4) Clinton Portis runs for his fifth touchdown against a beaten and bruised up Kansas City defense. Though, I remember that because I was there. Probably more thrilling than that was watching TD run straight up the gut of the Dallas Defense, only to be pulled before halftime because of how in control of the game we were.

5) John Elway brings the team back from a two touchdown deficit in the last two minutes of the game against the '91 KC Chiefs.

Eddie was one badass receiver though.

I wish I had that picture I photoshopped of that stiff arm. Actually, I still have that harddrive, its probably running windows 95, but I might be able to upload it later.

4 - The game winning touchdown catch against Minnesota that ping ponged around crazily before settling into Eddie Mac's soft hands.

That happened right in front of me - by far the coolest sporting happenstance I have ever witnessed live.

Cheers.

How can you not remember that it was a 63 yard FG?? It was a NFL record.

They announced it as a 62 yarder, and said that it didn't break the record but rather tied it...

I think I must be remembering it wrong... In any case, it was cool...
