Oh, that's deep.
Not really a PLAY, but worth being in the top 100 plays in mlb history nonetheless.
nice find.

Taking that flag was much more than saving a piece of cloth. The irony is that is showed our respect for it.
They didn't even deserve to hold that flag.

Ironically, they probably had to throw that flag away anyway since it was doused.
I'm glad those 2 fools were embarrassed on television.

No. Rick Monday still has the flag...under glass in his home.

I was listening to that game on the radio when it happened. The Dodgers traded for Monday the next season. Unfortunately, most of his career in LA was injury plagued.
Monday's second most memorable play was a home run off Steve Rogers to knock the Expos out of the NLDS in 1981. I was almost late to football practice because of that one.

What's odd is half of Air America's talk show hosts like Garafalo would have thrown a cut-block for those damned hippes had they been there.

Rick Monday is also the answer to this trivia question...
Who was MLB's first #1overall selection upon installing the amatuer draft?
Had Monday not gotten injured, the Dodgers might have well had 5 guys (Garvey, Cey, Baker, Smith) with 30 or more HR's that year...if memory serves me right he ended up with 19 in an injury marred '77 season.
The day he hit that HR vs Expos is known as Black Monday in Canada...which is kind of ironic since his last name is, well you know....Monday.

There's no film of it but the greatest play I've ever heard about was when The Pirates were playing the Houston Colt .45s in 1964. The Pirates were behind with Houston putting runners on first and third. The batter bunted and the Pirates put on the "wheel play" where the first and third basemen rushed in to field while the second baseman covered first and the shortstop covered second. The bunt hopped between the pitcher and the third baseman and rolled harmlessly into shallow left. Clemente, playing right field, rushed in and scooped up the ball, throwing out the runner at third who had advanced from first.
The Pirates eventually came back to win, 11-9.

I have always loved watching that clip of Rick Monday crashing those hippies' party.
If you watched Atlas' link, why does Tommy Lasorda have to take credit for everything that has happened in baseball? What an attention whore.

I didn't even want to click on the the link because I thought it would be some sappy MLB memories play. I was looking to see Kirk Gibson again but that was cool. Thanks Atlas

The most embarassing play all time...perhaps Jose Canseco letting a fly ball bounce off his freaking skull for a HR.

We all get the "freedom of speech" line...however there are things that are just wrong...period. Burning the flag of the US is wrong, plain and simple.
I remember when the most popular bumper sticker was "America, Love it or Leave It"
