Chiefs pull request to host Super Bowl
NFL.com wire reports

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 25, 2006) -- The Kansas City Chiefs withdrew their request for Arrowhead Stadium to host the 2015 Super Bowl, after yet another setback in plans for a rolling roof at the Truman Sports Complex.

Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt said in a statemnt Arrowhead Stadium renovations would move forward without a roof to make it and the adjacent Kauffman Stadium climate-controlled, a condition for hosting the Super Bowl.

"We tried our very best," Hunt said, "but found that the combination of a lack of consensus from the various political interests, the business community and the Royals, as well as the need for promptness on the beginning of construction at Arrowhead would not permit us to pursue the rolling roof at this time."

The latest push to bring a rolling roof to the sports complex ended May 22, when county officials withdrew a resolution to put the project on the Aug. 8 ballot.

Hunt said renovations at Arrowhead would be designed to accommodate a roof in case local leaders eventually decide to add one. He urged the Royals to do the same at Kauffman.

That's too bad. Maybe they can pass that motion to make the playoffs have two more teams. Maybe they can make the offseason Super Bowl that the chefs win every year official.

One thing is for sure: The Chiefs now have no way of being remotely connected to the Super Bowl in any way.

I'll tell you what's worse, -Slap-, Thursday night on NFL Network I saw the KC Chefs 1969 HIghlight film .... well, the only reason they went to that Super Bowl was Warren Wells! Late in the AFL Championship game (the LAST AFL ch-ship game), the Raiders were ahead by 3 or 4, with the ball at about midfield when Lamonica threw deep to Warren Wells. A Chief CB tipped it up and intercepted it ... and then .... THE WORST, MOST PITIFUL 'DOGGING IT' play I have ever seen! Wells simply refused to tackle the guy as he ran away! Wells could've EASILY tackled him at the Chef 20 if he tried - even HALF tried. But no! The Chef CB ended up going almost the distance, and they scored the winning TD to make it to SB IV.

Man, I had no idea.

Sad.

Fred Biletnikoff ran him down like a LINEBACKER.

I wonder, since we are closing in on nearly a decade since the Broncos last went to a Super Bowl, if Bronco fans will continue to harp about being a Super Bowl winning franchise, much in the same way as Raider fans do, or will they eventually come to the conclusion that they aren't any different than any other franchise and, except for a HOF QB and a few winks and nods in the commisioners direction with regard to the salary cap, their trophy case would still be empty.

The salary cap issues had nothing to with the superbowls. It had everything to do with having the best player in the leagye those two years. He wore 30.

I rarely cry when my team loses. I have perspective. But those 'accountants' enabled those rosters to be developed. If I recall they involved Elway and Davis.

Hey, I know Bronco fans are going to be touchy on this subject. Finally breaking through after being the butt of Super Bowl jokes for a decade will leave a fan a little defensive. I was just wondering how long the illusion that Denver is the class organization of the NFL will last. It 's been nearly a decade. Your last Super Bowl is getting to be as relevant as anyone else's in the 20th century.

They deferred money to Elway, and T.D. At the time they did this...they were operating in a gray area of the salary cap. When the honks in the NFL office decided it did violate the spirit of the cap, and told the Donks that they were in violation...they immediately paid the players the money they were owed. And they went from there.

Chief fans blow this out of proportion. It's understandable though. They haven't had a whole lot of post-season success since the 90's. So obviously they're going to cling to anything they can that in their silly minds tarnishes the Donk's back to back championships. It's not a big deal.

You just saved yourself a few hundred bucks since our bet about the Chiefs using the roof during a regular season game is now dead.. Elway and TD would have been here. By making those deals, who did it allow them to give money to instead?

BTW, I'd rather be the butt of SB jokes then watching at home like the Chiefs did. It's been so long, maybe you aren't old enough to be able to understand what it is like.

Denver is no different than any other organization, except the Raiders and Saints of course. Unlike most, Denver is usually successful. We expect playoffs, Chiefs hope for it.

Meck would buy us all sneakers and kool-aid if we put a roof on New Mile High. We don't have too many bad weather days, it's a total myth actually. Eastern morons think Denver is in some box canyon north of Silverton with Grizzly bears eating leftover sausage in the parking lot. The fact is that sheer weirdness has had prime time games with snow and cold. Late in the season it's usually a releatively warm sun and in the mid 40's. It's actually more cloudy and cold in Kansas City in December.

That doesn't mean it can't drop to -20 after Christmas, it's just rare.

Bob has made predictions so bad that they have reached Biblical proportions. Seriously, you could make millions if he had a betting line.

Not at all...that was a big part of the whole plan. People went out of their way to make sure of it. I went over this with a good friend at the KC sports commission. Had the roof gone through you would have lost that bet.

A big draw to the idea of that roof was that beside its ability to go over each stadium was its ability to go between the two stadiums where they could have a venue for large events and give a lot of flexibility when it comes to things like seating because you could do so many things with that space. The roof would have been a great way to bring in revenue in ways that you currently can't year around...not to make Invesco-esque fans warmer.

I know you have been around a lot of lame fans in Denver. That doesn't mean KC folks can't handle the cold.

Again, the problem at the Mane highlighted by one of the board's most prestigious dumbasses. You guys consistantly **** all over your own threads, and then you act surprised when someone points out the horrible stench. Hardly anybody manages jackasses like 24, and then they end up flooding the board with said **** posts. Maybe the planet could loan out Skip for a week or so to regulate for you guys.

24, your entire response to my post was nothing more then more worthless idiotic smack. You even managed to throw in an LOL to highlight how stupid you are. Hurrr, your responding to the smell of ****, and your [city name] smells like ****. Truly insightful.

yada yada yada.....its a bronco board. Deal with it or you can go to crap planet and you can discuss shaving balls with bobo or how you both like the smell of sh!t? Really I dont care, your posts are retarded at best. A rival fan telling a rival board how to be managed is pure comedy.

I have less then 700 posts after being a member here for over two years. If I responded to every stupid mullet reference I would easily have over 10 thousand posts. Also, I don't think Paladin's **** slinging was directed at me, but being in the same relative area, the stench was overwhelming. So I responded.

After reading the board here for a couple years, it seems that most of you enjoy the smell of ****. I guess that is why my distaste came off as odd to you Tredici.

Ummmm... your feigned distate doesn't come off as odd. It comes off as completely expected and predictable. Two years just to catch a whiff, huh? Must be some addictive smelling ****.

A perceived tactic is no tactic at all.

I totally agree. I will start the petition to make the OM motto, "This is a Bronco board. Prepare to deal with mass idiocy." We can be the first two to sign.

Someone not liking horrible posts/posters is predictable? Who would have thought such a thing? I know it is hard for you to understand Tredici, but not everyone enjoys the smell and taste of ****. Crazy huh.

I'll say this for the Planet. The majority of the guys there are good guys. The worthless pieces of garbage that troll here aren't among them.
