I was helping out our entertainment producer w/ coverage of it. I'm the sports producer for al.com. He's a good guy.

Funny thing: Carrie Underwood came right out of my hometown in Tahlequah OK. She was a student at Northeastern State Univeristy... which = grades 13-16 for the local kids who couldn't manage to go anywhere else. I couldn't care less about American Idol because there are a zillion other ACTUAL MUSICIANS that could smoke these fools, but get no recognition whatsoever.. but Carrie is my homegirl, like it or not. Jeebus, take da wheeel...

I got caught on a lead in. The girl was ten times better than that off key clown doing Bruce Sprinsteen Karokee. I managed to stand it for about half an hour that night. The cat went under the pillow and put his paws over his ears so I turned the channel.

Musically, the right person won. The girl has more talent, but was inconsistent as hell. Sad thing is, this is probably the worst thing that could happen to his career. AI has proven time and time again that they don't know how to market anyone that isn't mainstream female.
