With all the humor in America at the expense of Canada, it's a little hypoctritical to be insulted when the favor is returned.
I enjoy a world where we can all just make fun of each other.

Tonight's SNL digital short was about Americans on the street answering Andy Samberg's questions correctly. It wasn't funny, though I chuckled because I had just watched the videos provided in this thread.
Also, Canadian singer Nelly Furtado and her ass looked real nice on SNL tonight.
I was in Calgary last month; it's the poor man's Denver.

Talk of having the worlds largest secret untapped oil reserves comes pretty cheap. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1634161/posts)
My apoligies, 2nd largest (http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/rankorder/2178rank.html), while estimates say that it could be up to 5 times larger. The numbers shown in the CIA Factbook don't include the as-of-now untappable oilsands.
Alberta's oil sands contain the biggest known reserve of oil in the world. An estimated 1.7 to 2.5 trillion barrels of oil are trapped in a complex mixture of sand, water and clay. The most prominent theory of how this vast resource was formed suggests that light crude oil from southern Alberta migrated north and east with the same pressures that formed the Rocky Mountains. Over time, the actions of water and bacteria transformed the light crude into bitumen, a much heavier, carbon rich, and extremely viscous oil. The percentage of bitumen in oil sand can range from 1% -20%. The oil saturated sand deposits left over from ancient rivers in three main areas, Peace River, Cold Lake and Athabasca. The Athabasca area is the largest and closest to the surface, accounting for the large-scale oil sands development around Fort McMurray.
Most of the oil sands of Canada are located in three major deposits in northern Alberta. The three deposits are the Athabasca-Wabiskaw oil sands of north northeastern Alberta, the Cold Lake deposits of east northeastern Alberta, and the Peace River deposits of northwestern Alberta. Between them they cover over 140,000 square kilometers (54,000 square miles) an area larger than Florida and hold at least 175 billion barrels (175×109 bbl) or 28 billion cubic metres (28×109 m3) of recoverable crude bitumen, which amounts to three-quarters of North American petroleum reserves. In addition to the Alberta deposits, there are major oil sands deposits on Melville Island in the Canadian Arctic islands but they are unlikely to see commercial production in the foreseable future.
The Alberta oil sands deposits contain at least 85% of the world's total bitumen reserves but are so concentrated as to be the only such deposits that are economically recoverable for conversion to oil. The largest bitumen deposit, containing about 80% of the total, and the only one suitable for surface mining is the Athabasca Oil Sands along the Athabasca River. The mineable area as defined by the Alberta government covers 37 contiguous townships (about 3400 square kilometres or 1300 square miles) north of the city of Fort McMurray. The smaller Cold Lake deposits important because some of the oil is fluid enough to be produced by conventional production methods. All three Alberta areas are suitable for production using in-situ methods such as cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) and steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD).
The Canadian oil sands have been in commercial production since the original Great Canadian Oil Sands (now Suncor) mine began operation in 1967. A second mine, operated by the Syncrude consortium, began operation in 1978 and is the biggest mine of any type in the world. The third mine in the Athabasca Oil Sands, the Albian Sands consortium of Shell Canada, Chevron Corporation and Western Oil Sands Inc. began operation in 2003. However, with the development of new in-situ production techniques such as steam assisted gravity drainage and the Oil price increases of 2004-2006, there are now several dozen companies planning nearly 100 oil sands mines and in-situ projects in Canada, totaling nearly $100 billion in capital investment.

Americans will do anything to get on TV, even if its Canadian TV. I found these clips to be very funny and laughed the whole time. I'm sure it had to take him alot of takes to get people to go along with what he said. Alot of those " Congratulations Candad on .. " were staged, and just seemed like he asked them to say it to the camera. All in all its funny, but shouldn't be taken too literaly.

Through careful thought, our founding fathers produced a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy as some people falsely believe. In fact, nowhere in the Declaration of Independence or the U.S. Constitution does it mention democracy. Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution guarantees "to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government."
So when George W. Bush describes America as a democracy, he hasn't a clue as to what kind of government he wishes to rule.
The U.S. system relies on representatives to establish laws rather than through the voting public or imperial minded presidents. During the Constitutional Convention of 1787 no one supported a direct form of democracy. On the contrary, our founders feared pure democracy because it provides no checks and balances on the people themselves.
The ancient Greeks invented demo-cracy. The two words combined literally means "rule by the people." Later, the Romans took some of their governmental ideas from the Greeks and evolved a representative democracy which had representatives from the nobility in the Senate and representatives from the commoners in the Assembly. The Roman government divided between these two branches and they voted on various issues.
Our founding fathers based the United States government on the Greek, Roman, and Anglo-Saxon ideas along with freethought ideas from the Enlightenment. Of course the Enlightenment went against the grain of Christian, Jewish, and Islamic thought, and by this standard, meets the requirements of Pagan thought, thus our form of government derives entirely from Pagan ideas.

Who has a holier than thou attitude?? You make a good point about defense as Canada's Armed Forces aren't up to the U.S. But my guess would be that you have never been to Canada and if you have you haven't spent much time there. If you have you would understand that a lot of the philosophies and the way people think are the same. Also if you look at Alberta and B.C. they are very similar to Montana and Washington. Alberta as a state would help with the gas because just in that province alone they have triple what the U.S. has total. As I stated I have always been pro U.S. as there are a lot more opportunities down here but I enjoyed my time in Canada.

Sure, its a stupid question, but its all in the presentation. Think about it. If you had a camara in front of your face, with a guy saying he's a reporter for the CBC, then he gives you some background on the question, like he did at Mt. Rushmore and in Little Rock, then most people don't really think about what they are saying...
The most intelligent answer was buy the country gentleman wearing the cowboy hat in Little Rock. He actually thought about the question, then answered it as best he could. And, he gave a good answer.

I travel back and forth to Toronto on business...now and then to Vancouver...and I love both cities, though I couldn't hack Toronto's winters. Most of the Canadians I've met (all city dwellers) seem to be pretty much like we are...PO'd at what the government's up to here and not overly enamored with their own either...but I don't see them as any more informed on the world than we are, except around U of Toronto, very cosmopoliltan city with a lot of international flavor...but New York and Chicago have that too. Toronto amazes me with how clean it is.
It's not to tough to get a leg up on Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana...;D
I like the fact that there's still a lot of Canada that's unspoiled...hopefully it remains that way for a while.

The only things I don't like about Canada now is that it's no longer cheap to go there and the fact that I'm going to need a $90.00 passport to get in and out of it next year....neither of which is the Canadians fault at all.

The only things I don't like about Canada now is that it's no longer cheap to go there and the fact that I'm going to need a $90.00 passport to get in and out of it next year....neither of which is the Canadians fault at all.

I'm just a wee-bit behind on this one, but from what I read on page one...
I am an American, born and raised. 3 years ago I moved to Australia, and I had no idea how ignorant we (meaning most of the people i have dealt woith in my life) are when it comes to other countries.
Did you know in Australia, they are taught AMERICAN history during their school years?
How many of us can name two states in Australia, let alone speak of how Australia as a continent was populated, and as a country formed?
Very few.
When I was back home, I could give a rats ass about Canada. Every time that word (Canada) was even mentioned, practically everyone I know would reply.. *$%# Canada... What a disgrace!
Since being here, I have come to appreciate a lot of things I simply took for granted when they were all around me. I fear many others feel the same way.
As far as taking this crap personal...
Bomb Saskatchewan?!?!?!?! Those people and ourselves deserve to be laughed at for that crap.
We all need to be able to laugh at each other and ourselves. They are currently kicking up a stink here, about John Howard's recent visit with George Bush.
http://www.idu.org/johnhwrd.jpg
(John Howard is Australia's Prime Minister). George was asked about his friendship with John Howard and he replied...
"You know, people often tell me, "You and John Howard are so similar, are there any differences between you?" "And I tell them, yeah... he has no hair... he may not be the best looking guy on the block, but his word, you can take to the bank."
We piss off everyone else whether intentionally or not. And whether or not it's just them being too damn sensitive or snooty. To not be able to laugh at ourselves when we make so much fun of everyone else is a bit hypocritical. So long as it is all kept somewhat good-natured.

Yeah I studied in England, they are surprisingly well versed in AMerican History. Of course they have no knowledge whatsoever of Chinese history, Indian history, African history, etc. But hey, why not learn about the superpower in the world and then prescribe yourself as well versed on foreign affairs, Can you name two states in Madagascar? Why should I really care that much about Austrailia except that its populated by criminals, a grand supply of uranium, and hopelessly mutated mammals.

So I take it you can't name two states in Madagascar? How about two provinces in China then? Or India?
Easier to attack the man rather than the argument. So Europeans and Australians know the history of whites better than Americans. Why should that really impress me or explain why Americans are "stupid."
One of the first things I realized in England was that the people there are just as stupid as people are in the US or anywhere for that matter. Most Europeans who harp of American ignorance are usually elitist pricks that know little more than their American peers.

I can't and WON'T argue with that... Having never been to Europe I can't comment.
But from where I sit the average Aussie knows ten times as much about us as we know about them.
A lot of it is simply exposure. American television and news is on daily here. (Not entire newscasts, but snippets on local news.) One Aussie guy told me... "Well the problem is, you have so much going on in your own country, there just isn't that much time,to get to all of that, let alone anything happening in the rest of the world."
Which is probably true, but is sad none the less.
Point is, we could stand to do A LOT more as far as knowing about other places, except that no one cares. It's eye openoing to see how little you actually do know, once away from home.
