SO i saw the da vinci code last night and i enjoyed it. I only stood in line for about 10 minutes but the theatre was packed.
The critics were way off when they said it didnt live up to the hype. I thought it was great had a ton of detail and quite a few twists.
The one thing i didnt like was the chemistry between the two main charecters and Hanks didnt play the role very enthusiastically.
But i do strongly recomend this movie to all of you.

Tom Hanks was a bad casting and I don't need to see it.
Nicholson would of been better at Devinci, but who cares.

That French chick wasn't bad looking. I didn't see it for her though. I saw Match Point just to see Scarlett Johansson... but it turned out to be a great movie.
This was a great movie that turned out to have a hot chick in it.

Hanks is never bad. Thats why he is a safe choice.
I love Jean Reno. When he was cast to play the role of Fache...I knew it was a perfect match.
Best movie in the world? No, but not as bad as some of the critics have bashed the film. Any movie based on a book rarely lives up to it. I think the film was a good adaptation.

`The Da Vinci Code' boosts summer box office fortunes
GARY GENTILE
Associated Press
LOS ANGELES - Moviegoers gave their blessing to the "The Da Vinci Code" over the weekend, spending an estimated $77 million to see the Tom Hanks religious thriller.
While the film didn't set a domestic box office record, it was the largest weekend opening of the year so far and became the second largest worldwide release after "Star Wars: Episode III." It garnered some $224 million worldwide, according to Sony Pictures.
The film was also the best domestic opening for both Hanks and director Ron Howard.
The movie's performance, combined with the family film "Over the Hedge" debuting in second place with $37.2 million, was a welcome contrast to the last two weekends that saw disappointing results from "Poseidon" and "Mission: Impossible III."
The total box office was down about 2.8 percent from the same weekend last year, according to studio estimates released Sunday. But that's a tough comparison given that last year's numbers included the record-setting debut of "Star Wars: Episode III."
"'Da Vinci' opening this big just tells you that people do want to go to the movies, they just need the right movie to go," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations.
Sony Pictures took a risk in the marketing of "The Da Vinci Code," keeping the adaptation of the Dan Brown best-seller under wraps until a few days before its opening.
The film received mixed reviews and protesters picketed outside a number of theaters, upset over the story's suggestion that Jesus Christ was married and had a child. But the controversy did little to deter moviegoers, who packed theaters in almost every country the film debuted.
"You had a built-in audience from the book and the awareness levels were so high from this film," Dergarabedian said. "You would have to live under a rock not to know this movie was opening."
The movie also set opening-weekend records in Italy and Spain, Sony Pictures said.
"This is a fantastically great surprise for us this morning," said Jeff Blake, vice chairman of Sony Pictures.
It was good news for the studio, which had been struggling of late and had been counting on "The Da Vinci Code" to boost its fortunes.

I must be in the minority about Angels & Demons vs. Da Vinci Code. I liked Da Vince Code way better. Not to say A&D isn't good, as it is. Just liked DVC better. But my mom, my friends, and people here disagree with me.
Anyways, I saw the movie on Sunday and I absolutely loved it. They kept with the book, but I do think that the chemistry lacked between Hanks and the girl because the movie basically cut out the romantic link that the book had between them. I really liked the dude from X-Men playing the cripple, and the guy who played the albino guy was terrific.
I was one of the millions who when they finished reading the book said "this would make a great movie" and I believe that they did a great job of bringing the book to life.

very good, interesting book, but what made it good was the suspense/mystery of it. After the book, I see no need to see the movie. I already know what will happen, and TH is the wrong actor for the role. He's too old which takes away the romance part. They should have gotten a relatively no name guy.

i wouldn't be so quick to agree. americans love conspiracy theories, especially ones that are couched in half truths. few americans will do their homework and actually try to find out if the representations of Dan Brown are true. instead, they'll swallow it because they really want to. the 'facts' page alone is a laugher but combine it with the shoddy and flat out incoherent assertions that Brown just assumes, but never backs up, and there's no doubt it's fiction, even though the Author presents some of it as fact. is it dangerous? not really. this movie will only add to what one already believes, positive or negative. i'll be skipping it.

In short, some americans are too lazy to find out the real answer. So, they cover themselves with the "conspiracy" blanket to stay warm at night, knowing full well there is another side to the story. But, it's easier to stay warm this way, and most really don't want to have to "think things through"...dman

I think of it like this. there are two competing theories here, jesus had a kid and jesus turned water into wine. now I AM more likely to believe the former even though it is treated as the much less likely option.

The book is great. Puts some ideas out there that could be pretty close to the mark. The best thing about the book is that he presents his theories, then points out real research of real works of art that back up those theories, and thus make them more real.
Like a lot of people, the book forever changed how I now see 'The Last Supper'. That is without a doubt a woman next to Jesus, and there are without a doubt 13 pairs of hands with only 12 people.
How much of the Mary/Jesus stuff is true? Who knows, and will ever know? But I believe what TDV presents is probably a lot closer than what the church/churches today present as their history.

Well, the Roman Catholic Church is sure scrambling. They have had their eyes blackened over the past several years, and the Da Vinci Code is just one more "hit" to the whole scenario of "organized religion." (I like to say that because it brings up a question of whether there is an unorganized religion.) Jews believe Jesus was a prophet but not a god. Muslims believe Jesus was a minor prophet who did good things, but he was Jew, and therefor.....
The Da Vinci Code proposed some interesting alternatives in terms of thoughts about religion as an economic, social and political endeavor. I enjoyed it because it did challenge those beliefs. Fact is, if you believed before you read the book, you believe now. If you did not believe before, you do not believe after you read the book.
Fiction is fiction but it is often based on a modicum of truths and half truths and extrapolations of theories. In that it was a good thriller, I enjoyed it. I will see the movie sometime.

So what if Jesus had a wife and child/children. It changes nothing about the basic principles of Christianity (The Catholic Church should stop trying to lie about things and then change them later, not talking about DVC, but things like the earth being the center of the universe and not helping the Nazis kill jews, but very off topic now) The protest-ant religion lives goes on unchanged. I like all the ideas the book brings up, it makes you think.

Would a man, with a wife and family be more or less willing to sacrifice Himself for the salvation of mankind? As for the Church helping kill jews, that is a flat out lie. The state of Israel named pius a friend and ally of the Israeli people, and planted 800,000 trees, representing the Jews Pius saved. The church, like everyone else at the time, thought the earth was 1. flat, and 2. center of the universe. How can you blame the church for that and excuse everyone else? This book is fiction, anything in the story in regards to it is likewise fiction. "Some facts" involve location. Researching anything Brown calls fact disproves the whole book.

the church claims more authority than everyone else. and dan browns idea has been around quite a while. i believe it was written about in the 1800's and it was written about in "holy blood, holy grail" which is where most of dan browns research came from and itself is not a fictional book. and I believe 25 years before holy blood, holy grail there was another book.

Holy Blood and Holy Grail cites something (priory of sion) that has no history prior to 1950. This is exactly like the Muslims believing in the protocols of zion. Its a series of weak non events tied together to make up a BS story. It is completely false.

I never read the book, nor do I intend to, but I went and saw the movie. From just a movie standpoint I thought it was a decent flick. If you try to take more out of it than that, say like Passion of Christ, then you are asking for trouble IMO. One thing it has done is raise my intrigue about the history of Christianity. The wife read the book and was somewhat disappointed with the movie.
One thing that annoyed me though...she is the cryptologist yet he is the one deciphering the anagrams and what not. uh....

It's a book of fiction and in a particular genre that I don't appreciate much. So I have no intentions of reading the book. The wife said while Brown tells a good story the writing in general was poor.

I could see this becoming a classic:)
the church claims more authority than everyone else. and dan browns idea has been around quite a while. i believe it was written about in the 1800's and it was written about in "holy blood, holy grail" which is where most of dan browns research came from and itself is not a fictional book. and I believe 25 years before holy blood, holy grail there was another book.
Here is a hundred times better account of the story.

I saw it last week, I never read the book so I didn't have any kind of bias going into it. It was a decent movie, not great, I know National Tresure was a Da Vinci rip off but I saw it before this one and it kinda reminded me of it, lots of info but they really didn't seem to discover anything, just a couple of guys talking about rumors and theories, they stumbled on to their discoveries. I watched it with a friend who had read the book, I told him what I thought was going to happen before they left the Museum in the first 15 minutes, and I guessed correctly. Not a real mystery on the screen.

What insight! Didn't see it but knows Hanks was "bad casting".
Well - that's the reporting.... Hanks was mis-cast and plays the role with a lack of enthusiasm. Of course you have to see the movie to form your own opinion. I have not seen it yet - can't imagine (such as true with any book) that they can live up to the book.
So - perhaps he forgot to mention that he was parroting the critics...

i wouldn't be so quick to agree. americans love conspiracy theories, especially ones that are couched in half truths. few americans will do their homework and actually try to find out if the representations of Dan Brown are true. instead, they'll swallow it because they really want to. the 'facts' page alone is a laugher but combine it with the shoddy and flat out incoherent assertions that Brown just assumes, but never backs up, and there's no doubt it's fiction, even though the Author presents some of it as fact. is it dangerous? not really. this movie will only add to what one already believes, positive or negative. i'll be skipping it.
Dangerous - perhaps... but only to the uninitiated.

....
I enjoyed it too and its very faithful to the book. Teabring's Chateau looked just as I imagined it from the book.
It required a lot of dialogue to convey the storyline and some of this moronic critics are just too jaded without 20 bomb explosions every half hour to keep their interest.
The point of the movie that the boys in Rome and some of the Tammy Fae/ Falwell crowd are so upset about is not whether or not the details of the story are true, its obviously a fiction based on some composites of true events and a lot of creative imagination, but that it highlights that even their version of the story is also a product of man's desire to carve order, meaning and control out of the unknown, as cleverly illustrated in the brief Council of Nicea scene.
Anyone that can get you to watch 2.5 hours of a man talking to a volley ball is a damn good actor but not this time. The movie was excellent and the casting was superb except for Hanks. Shoulda been Sean Connery

Yes...I can see how a council designed to codify Christian belief, finding what is common about the various churches and unite them, and to combat heresey, might make the conspiracy theorists angry. Thats not sexy at all, is it?
